Awful. Pre-chorus is a horrible melody, holy shit Matt Skiba what are you thinking...
A few good ideas buried in a mess of rushed and generic composition.

@decisions well the description originally was "California pop punk daddies, best known for building this pool, blink-182" but i forgot that StalinSeason™ gets to choose what's funny & what isn't and deleted it

Bleh. As someone else said, a couple of good ideas muddled with more bad ones. Crap lyrics and very generic. I guess 6/8 was a one-off.

In comparison to most of California this is good.
But still.....

Why are deluxe editions of albums a thing?

It surprises me to no end that there are still people out there that are shocked that blink-182, in the year 2017, isn't putting out great music. This was my favorite band when I was 11 or 12. That was 15-16 years ago.
Are we really going to pretend, even with Skiba (Alkaline Trio is super overrated here, btw) that these guys are going to put out anything great ever again?
|
| |
Oh yeah, and this is okay/average/decent is is really the most I can say for anything they have put out in, like, 10 years.
|
| |
why don't they just make a brand new album from this
|
| |
Never check to validate, but someone in another thread said it had to do with a contract thing with their label.

Apparently they aren't making this collection of songs a new album because they're contractually obligated to promote "California", but they made 11 new songs. So they pretty much made a deluxe edition of California because it was a loophole in the contract.

that's punk as fuck

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it could be worse

It's not bad. I hate Marks vocals in the second verse, whatever effect was added sounds shit. I like the riff, but the drums sound so fucking boring, quiet, and digital, like they were played on a Yamaha keyboard. There's nothing interesting about the drumming, anybody could have done this song, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone else did. It also kinda builds and builds to nothing. Thank God there were no "nananana lalalala wooooooooahhhhhhhhh's." If you listen to the first chorus-ish, you can hear what was probably some of those. It ain't bad and it has a lot of energy. Don't get why they're talking about how the "underdogs came home," like bitch you ain't underdogs.

It's about as average as it gets with it comes to blink. 6/8 is going to be the best song on this new album for sure.
|
| |
This is actually pretty decent, better than most of California.

"you bitches deleted my masterpiece i've got yr ##### now"
Sounds like a blink-182 lyric.
|
| |
While it's admittedly better than the majority of California, it's still pretty bad.

@wetharmonica1916 Hey man, power to ya. I ain't stoppin' ya.

The chorus is kind of bland but the rest is alright. California was a grower for sure.
|

Easily the weakest song on the deluxe. Surpises me how good some of the other songs on it are, or how they didn't make the original album over the weaker songs
|
| |
they weren't recorded at the same time. also they suck chode.
