Not terrible, just a bit underwhelming. Definitely expect more out of John Haughm than above average blackened death metal with awkwardly implemented prog elements. Hopefully his next release will have a more fleshed out tone to it.

The to singles were awesome. Will check this out tomorrow, hopefully it's consistent in its quality.

Dark is the River of Man sounds like an Agalloch outtake which is pretty nice. Rest of the album is also pretty good even if it's not the most original stuff out there.

^ Yeah that's my thing. I enjoyed it but it's hard not to be disappointed given the caliber of the parties involved. It's just very...average.

same thoughts as you guys. I was really hoping for something more spectacular, but perhaps it will grow on me.

I haven't listened to this yet, but am I right in assuming it has a Faustian Echoes vibe?

If you're looking to compare it to something in the Agalloch discog then yes.

This is getting better on repeated listens. By the Light of a Black Sun might not have been the best choice for an opener. It's not a bad song, but doesn't really kick off the album that well IMO. The guitars are pretty layered, and new things do pop out on every listen which makes revisiting it rewarding.

I wouldn't go as far as to echo OvDeath's sentiments, but yeah, this is solid, not sure where the hate is coming from on this.

I don't really like Agalloch and feel like the subtle use of melody by this band is far more enjoyable
