New Mastodon Album

2017-01-27 by shem | 31 Comments
Over the last six days Mastodon has been teasing their new release with a social media post every 24 hours. The first four were short comedic videos from each band member individually teasing that an album would come soon, yesterday the band revealed the new artwork with a teaser of a new song playing on the page and today the band has announced that their new album Emperor of Sand is to be released March 31st!

If you pre-order the album now from Mastodonrocks.com you will be immediately sent the teased song from yesterday's post "Sultan's Curse" in full.

The band has also recently switched back to their old logo and the teaser from yesterday's post certainly indicated a return to the groups sound around the Blood Mountain era.

The first single is really strong. The first single since Blood Mountain that has truly hyped me for one of their albums.

I didn't like the song at first, but it's growing on me. There's some nice psych stuff going on, very reminescent of The Czar. Looking forward!

I keep waiting for them to write a character for Scott Kelly in a concept album so he can appear on more than one song.

No title track this time around. Too bad "Emperor of Sand" sounds like a big heavy song title, akin to Hearts Alive.
