Wtf were they thinking bringing Clementine in for vocals lol
| |
well that was bad.
| |
Songs OK, sounds like the kind of track that was rushed along for the sake of being topical (because it was) but its not TERRIBLE by any means. I don't think its going to be an album track, either, prolly something more like Doncamatic.
| |
this....is terrible
| |
i like it
| |
It's not bad, I just hope it isn't a harbinger of things to come.

Please no.
| |
this is unimaginably terrible
| |
wow that is a level of weird I did not expect. These guys are best when they stick to making fun beats and catchy tunes, not this obscure stuff.
| |
lol yaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwn
| |
this is beautiful and gorgeous
| |
indeed it brings beautiful and gorgeous zzzzzzzzzzzzzz's
| |
well this was a dissapointment
| |
Lowkey one of the worst things I've ever heard
| |
consensus: track is beautiful and bad
| |
Y'all motherfuckers are salty. This song is really good. Odd choice for a lead single, but reminds me a ton of Cloud of Unknowing or Fire Coming out of the Monkey's Head.
| |
I thought this was really well done. I can imagine it as an intro track, either the first or second on the album. It really does set the tone for a super dark and really heavy album. I'm sure the track after will be some sort of banger, but this to me almost feels like the prophet speaking before the event. I'm pumped for this album now.
| |
Could've done with more Damon but I enjoyed it, looking forward to the album
| |
mad corny this nat king cole motherfucker needs to box it with that
| |
bad
| |
I predict... everyone saying this is bad will come to love it when the entire album drops. You heard it here first folks.
| |
Lol anti-Trump sentiment gonna keep plenty of artists in business
| |
overreaction itt
| |
What in the honest to god fuck
| |
The track is great, you guys don't know how to assess new Gorillaz, compare this to Cloud of Unknowing. This will be a great interlude-ish track, if it's even destined for the album. Alburn's fucking with our heads haha
| |
I just love Benjamin's voice as well
| |
How to kill cartoon characters...
| |
(Maniacal laugh)
| |
imo i feel like Ben's vocal work is really well done but it doesn't compliment with the rest of the song too well, feels too theatrical. still don't feel like it's as bad as you guys are making it out to be but hey that's just my opinion
| |
Plastic Beach came out in 2010, not 2011
| |
cloud of unknowing wasn't very good either tbh
| |
This is lame.
| |
Not terrible, just bland.
2.5/5 as fuck
| |
I don't mind the song, I just don't see how this is single material?
| |
Disappointing to say the least.
| |
just listened to this and massive fucking overreaction itt
| |
It's not bad fo sho, it's just underwhelming as hell.
| |
idk its pretty bad
| |
Dumb idea for a single but i don't mind it
| |
Albarn's vocals are the worst thing on here tbh
| |
I dig it, just not as the first single if that's the ultimate plan
| |
that spongebob clip at the end is basically the entire gorillaz fanbase rn
| |
lol this is bad
| |
bloody awful
| |
God, this is awful.
| |
man...:/
| |
Oh yay!
| |
Oh wtf?
| |
^yeah I think that was everyone's reaction
| |
I don't won't to say this is bad but it's pretty fucking bizarre and out there.
| |
hmmmm yeah I love this.
| |
whoa mordecai holeee
| |
Great to see them going in a more experimental direction!
| |
This isn't experimental
| |
mmmmmmmmno
| |
this is really good yeah
| |
Nah this rules dudes beautiful shit
| |
Not bad by any means, hey...
Liked the melody at the core of the track, liked the instrumental, but 'lyrics' are... hard to get used to, to say the least. Definitively a grower, tho. It's a track that needs at least a 2nd chance, there are things to like in it, u guys.
| |
Typical brats writing it off because it actually differs from the mass, easily computable pulp that they digest day in day out.
Song is a marvel. Love it.
| |
Mostly it's just boring
| |
Yeah, it doesn't go twang twang, plink, plinky plonk and there's no fun raps. I miss mr snoopy dogs he was so fun.
Welcome to the real plastic beach. Absolutely love it.
| |
Yup ArsMoriendi is the kind of user who cares about rap verses. lol
| |
The venom in this is proper.
Bloody blown me away, lol.

I'm surprised zak even likes this since it's Anti-Trump.
zak loves Trump, despite not even being American
| |
oh gross
| |
Press release confirmed that it is not going to be on the album, nor is it a single. Guess that means it won't be appearing on any download sites.
| |
Where? Link
| |
Buzzkill
| |
damn this was trash,
| |
damn, this would've been a sweet intro to the album but I guess they took it off because of all the fans throwing tantrums
for once zak is completely on the (hallelujah) money
| |
Zak is right on the undeserved hate.
| |
six fucking years and all we get is this interesting fucking piece of quality music
| |
this absolutely breaks my heart to admit but
that. was. fucking. terrible.
| |
it's genuinely one of the worst songs I've heard in a while
| |
Benjamin has a great voice and seemed like a really appropriate Gorillaz collaborator too but shit damn hopefully this is the Superfast Jellyfish of the new album and everything else is good.
| |
Fuck off back to playschool brats.
| |
Everyone says this is bad but I'm stoked to listen.
| |
uhhh what the fuck
| |
What the hell.
| |
"Typical brats writing it off because it actually differs from the mass, easily computable pulp that they digest day in day out.
Song is a marvel. Love it."
Zak you don't listen to anything even remotely ~edgy~, your entire taste completely hinges upon 'the mass'.
You'll feel right at home at 'playschool' where your favourite childhood bands never skip a beat.
| |
feel like there was no flow to this track and that it's just one giant awkward mish-mash of different styles of music
still got hope that gorillaz will put out some dank tracks though
| |
so it wont be on the album? fine by me
| |
Waited for that thick, nasty beat to drop but it never did. Sounds like an interlude track imo.
| |
Who the fuck thought the SpongeBob clip would be a good idea?
| |
who u callin pinhead?
| |
Honestly it's growing on me but it's forever in the niche of just being pleasant, it doesn't go anywhere.
| |
"Waited for that thick, nasty beat to drop but it never did. Sounds like an interlude track imo."
the wait for the song to do ~anything~ of value was physically painful
and i dont mean that figuratively
| |
This sucks
HAAAH-LELUYAH-MONEEEeeEeEeee
| |
I've never heard anything by these guys before but that Clementine feature has me a bit intrigued.
| |
do yourself a huge favor and don't make this the first song of theirs that you listen to. it's unconscionably bad.
also htf have you not heard "clint eastwood"? were you raised in a bomb shelter?
| |
Go listen to Demon Days in its entirety rn
| |
~feel gooooood~
| |
srsly [2] demon days a few times then gorillaz or plastic beach can't go wrong
but demon days first
| |
David Bowie tribute if I ever saw won. I win thread and the song itself.
| |
This song just made me just burst out laughing. It's so fucking terrible I can't even comprehend it.
| |
Gorillaz s/t is so so so so much better than anything on Demon Days it's not even fair.
| |
not remotely true
| |
Yea, not the most popular opinion... Still, check s/t first.
| |
yeah it's okay to think demon days isn't better but it won't be by much.
demon days' got songs on it (dare, el manana, all alone) that are just on their own level
| |
It's 30% nostalgia and 70% genuinely think it's a better album overall.
| |
The song listens like a prologue. What are you waiting for, a drop? This merely sets the stage for what's to come. I mean... have you listened to anything off their S/T? There are songs on there that don't "go" anywhere but the establish the tone so nicely.
see: M1A1, Starshine, Double Bass.
| |
I'll probably jam their whole discog tomorrow since it's only three or four albums
| |
This is on Fall Out Boy reunion levels of bad.
| |
Man, that was terrible.
| |
the worst part about it is that its so unbelievably boring
I can definitely see what they were going for
| |
"This is on Fall Out Boy reunion levels of bad."
This is on Fall Out Boy levels of bad*
| |
Nope. I'm not having the dissing of this at all. The one thing that separates gorillaz from the crowd is they have always been a fresh alternative to the horde while at the same time being a parody of it all.
This tune is a genuine breath of fresh air, and is entirely its own thing while taking the gorillaz sound in a new direction (gasp it's all grown up)
If it didn't carry the Gorillaz brand and had someone else other than Albarn on it people would be branding it 'Bedouin tent soul' or some cobblers to try and pigeon hole and contain it.
| |
I don't think they would release this as a first proper single. This is a teaser that makes sense now with Trump's election.
Anyhow, it's a weird track lol. Curious to hear how it works within the album.
| |
Feels like they had fun with this, probably the oddest cut for a new single in forever but hasn't deterred me in the slightest for some fresh gorillaz, if anything it's nice to see them still fucking around
| |
Oddest Gorillaz song I've ever listened to. Not too keen on it sadly. We need more of a Demon Days style
| |
Not a big fan of hammy Clementine or chin strokey pseudo-band Gorillaz so fuck 'em, made for each other.
Albarn could probably find better things to do with his time than this sort of thing but it's a money train so there you go.
Track Rating? 1 out of 10
| |
Holy shit. This is the first time I can recall seeing Doof and Zak having differing opinions. A MOMENTOUS DAY.
| |
Wow Doof... Your shitty ass comment is just... Wow.
fuck your old ass.
| |
rabid -what are the band going to do? Turn me into a cartoon character and then animate themselves beating my ass. Gorillaz are fucking pussies, I'm confident I could have this lot, force feed the cvnts some invisible ink.
Gorillaz have approximately ten songs worth anyone's time. They drop 3 or 4 decent tunes an album surrounded by a ridiculous amount of padding, just a 2.5-3 deal. People get over excited about them because of the marketing/packaging/novelty.
At least we both agree Plastic Beach is slightly better than Demon Days (which is a sad excuse for an album, it really is).
| |
Wow this does nothing for me.
| |
Song definitely is shit but doofus u are being uncharacteristically pretentious and psuedo-objective and it's unbecoming
| |
edgy af
| |
Only mucking about as this is the most popular band on the site.
I wanted, nay expected, to love Gorillaz but the fact is after enjoying the singles when I finally picked up a full album by them (Demon Days) it was genuinely abysmal quality taken as a complete album (not being blinded by the singles). Very underwritten and nondescript.
I guess the cartoon thing makes you forget it's an Albarn album, and I'm just not that big a fan of Albarn. Blur are a 3/5 type band, he's still got a few good tunes knocking about in his head but he's running low on them imo, and as much as I wanted Gorillaz to be the extra fun version of his thing they're just genuinely not that interesting.
Plastic Beach had its moments, but again really nothing to get too excited about.
| |
Damn, getting angry about Gorillaz of all groups
| |
So angry.
I'll review the new one.

proper grammar are important
| |
I spelt gorillas wrong too - I put an edgy Z on the end of the word and it looked childish
| |
I'll probably end up 5'ing the new one now
| |
I hope the SpongeBob part is actually on the album lmao
just because
| |
more like gorillazzz
because they're so boring they make people fall asleep
and they're a cartoon band and in cartoons "zzz's" are often used to represent sleep
i can explain further if anyone wants
| |
song is still so good i withstand by that
| |
^ i like you.
| |
Oh, you started with Demon Days...
Now I understand everything.
| |
Doofus there is a very large community of people who love gorillaz but think Blur sucks. I used to be a part of it. Now I just feel neutral about Blur.
| |
Song is interesting and not phoned-in at least. But it's not really much of a song, more them being weird. Hoping this is just the "weird" song on the album and it's not all this non-songy
| |
Doof's hate completely blows me away tbh. The Song's really warmed up to me, I dig it, and I love the beat. At best it's a 3.5 tho, nothing more.
| |
Hopefully Its just not on the album.
| |
I just sit between 'neutral/occasionally positive' for both of them
| |
This is not the first single for the album guys. Thank the lord. It is shit, but it has nothing to do with the album.
| |
it is *the shit
| |
lmao at people comparing this to Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head which it has absolutely nothing in common with
| |
and yeah the word flying round atm seems to be that this is not a single, nor will it appear on the album. It's more like a "here's what Damon Albarn and Benjamin Clementine feel about this whole thing"
I mean coming off Albarn's solo album and the new Blur (which I reckon's their best imo), surely they can't actually fuck this up???
| |
