Actually a well-written song. It's just a shame that Lars is the laziest drummer of all time.
| |
Still think it's super underwhelming. Moth into Flames has been the best single so far and probably one of their best since Black Album and I quite liked Death Magnetic

@Kusangii yeah, definitely felt a bit dull in that department.
| |
James vocals feels kinda underwhelming in this song, though.
| |
People give Lars shit (mostly deserved),but when was the last time Kirk actually had a good solo.
| |
CRUSHED UNDER HEAVY SKIES
ATLAS,RIIIIIISE
| |
good stuff, I like the part where they riff
| |
Yeah this was definitely underwhelming compared to Moth into Flame.
Still kinda dug it though.
| |
Moth Into the Flame is better, this is still pretty cool though
| |
Christ this is dull, expected a big fat 2.5 from the album.
| |
Good song, but too long.
| |
Man, the drums really do suck, only snare and nothing interesting. Song was painfully average and I liked moth and t/t
| |
I still think the double bass moments in the past few singles have been impressive for old age Lars to pull off tbh
| |
how boring
| |
Lars in the kitchen slaming on frying pans is also impressive for him tbh.
| |
James' performance is decent tbh... Kirk is boring as usual but it's the undersized Dane tit that truly ruins the fun. This one could have turned out much better.
| |
Soulless. They're practically a business rather than a band.
| |
atlas shrugged
| |
Nothing out of the ordinary here.
| |
It's hard to comment on Rob as Metallica have never been a very bass friendly band.
| |
Play it at 1.25 speed. You're welcome.
Okay on a serious note, decent stuff, solo is kind of weak.
| |
I was actually just about to say how Lars has impressed me in the first three singles so far, while Kirk has been extremely underwhelming, but I guess not everyone here shares my opinion on the drumming :/
| |
James does sound really passionless here, like these were the last vocal sessions he had to do and just wanted them done.
| |
Is the album version gonna sound like this? Seems like it wasn't mastered properly, particularly with the vocals.
| |
song is cool
damn tho they look old as fuck
especially kirk and lars.
| |
meh
| |
WHAT IS UP WITH THIS ARTWORK.
| |
lol the artwork
| |
they wanna be Mastodon
| |
Song's ok, not terrible not great. Riffage is pretty tasty but Lars' inability to even try to play decent drums kinda brings it down
| |
haha this is embarrassing bad
| |
i think I found my new 1.0
sounds kinda like new slayer, which means it's awful
| |
it's ok. Lars boring drums as usual, Kirk solo also lifeless. James' vocals too plain, but somehow it's still ok. Maybe due to the Maiden influence
| |
I mean its nice to see the decrepit old geysers enjoying themselves but the song is soporific af
| |
yeah this is not master of puppets, but it's like a billion times better than lulu/st anger/reload
| |
yeah I can agree with that, I heard a vestigial flicker of AJFA era Metallica in the bridge but i think its more wishful thinking than anything else haha
| |
it's ok. And Lars' performance is perfectly passable, give the man a break
| |
Lars' performance is perfectly passable, give the man a break [2]
And I say that as someone who usually likes to give old age Lars shit
| |
Yeah, I do think Moth is the best one (watch it be the best on the album). Still, it seems like it'll sound listenable, to say the least.
| |
Every single they release isn't as good as the one that came before it.
| |
i'd take lars' drumming over kirk's solos any day. album is sounding like a 2.5-3 so far
| |
idk man, that hammett sequence about 4 minutes in is pretty badass
| |
Kirk's solos on Puppets are untouchable
| |
If I rated these three songs as an EP it would be a 3.8, so I'm happy, I hope they represent the album and we get one slower song that would be a throwback to their classic "mainstream" sound.
| |
I actually really liked this one. Album will be at least a 3.5, a 4 if they can keep up this quality through the whole thing.
| |
meh. Bland, average, monotonous.
| |
So it being listenable means they get a pass? I don't think I'll be checking out the album(s) these guys really should give it a rest already. They can't live up to their past and that's fine but they can't write captivating music anymore and that isn't fine.
| |
senile thrash metal
| |
atlas shrugged [2]
| |
hardwired... to suck
this suck
| |
There's no such thing as a good Kirk solo
| |
That video is probably the most unmetal thing I've ever watched.
| |
meh
| |
lol i cant understand all the hate. the dudes are almost 60. people need to stop living in the past. this is probably the best thing they've written in like 20 years
| |
"That video is probably the most unmetal thing I've ever watched."
Lol, yeah. Reminds me of James at the big 4 concert "Now THAT was a ...METAL MOMENT!" Oh boy.
| |
I guess just go into this with zero expectations under the pretense that you're listening to a different band than the one which released 4 classic albums in the 80's and you may even be satisfied with what you hear
| |
Song's pretty solid.
| |
So it being listenable means they get a pass? [2]
Album is prob 2-2.5 so far for me. Vocals are catchy at least, favorite single
| |
the metal nickelback
band needs to go away
| |
sad but true
| |
I think Lars finally found that 'snare tone' he's been looking for. Because every fucking fill is like 8 or 9 direct snare hits.
| |
new Rush blu ray and this album released on the same day........$35 i'll be spending regardless of how good either turn out to be
| |
"Play it at 1.25 speed. You're welcome." [2]
This sounds a lot better at 1.25 speed tbh
| |
"Is the album version gonna sound like this? Seems like it wasn't mastered properly, particularly with the vocals."
I second that, the production sounds poor. The drums sound off, the kick and snare are compressed very hard, and sit too loud in the mix.
| |
"Play it at 1.25 speed. You're welcome."
Wow, that actually makes it so much better. And it's over faster too.
| |
1.25 speed? Poor Lars
| |
This gets better as it progresses. Song really doesn't take off until the solos and shit come in.
| |
ye the shitty solos add to the shit when they come in all right
| |
"this is probably the best thing they've written in like 20 years"
not even close tbh
| |
Fuel is #1
| |
Why does Kirk even bother with solos anymore? He hasn't found an interesting way to put together his signature wah-laden pentatonics in 20 years.
| |
hahaha they are elderly and it's funny
| |
Just don't like it. Too weak for Metallica
| |
metallica is going to make metal a global trend again
This is revamped classic metal for the masses and i am thrilled
| |
They even look bored playing this.
| |
why is this under the My Comments tab for me. I don't remember commenting here
either way I dig the song. not as good as Moth into Flame but still gives me hope this album won't suck
| |
"the metal nickelback
band needs to go away "
[2]
| |
Songs have been cool so far. People give too much hate for this band.
Edit: 999 Comments!
| |
"the metal nickelback"
fuck off
| |
"Play it at 1.25 speed. You're welcome." [5]
oh hey waddayaknow it actually sounds like old Metallica/actual thrash metal when you do that.
| |
it appears that, when playing this entire album at 1.25 speed, it goes from a 2.0 to a 2.5
how quaint.
| |
I really can't get into any of the 3 songs
| |
People are surprised that 2016 Metallica has terrible production, uninspired solos and loads of snare fills?
| |
Possibly the most boring song I've heard all year.
| |
And you gave new A7X a 5. Ok
| |
Yeah, because new Avenged shits all over this.
| |
gonna be the best album ever
| |
The intro is fucking pointless. Pretty boring song after that too.
| |
but maiden bit in chorus
| |
I hardly hear the comparison but either way Maiden did it better and like 4 decades earlier
| |
no they didnt maiden were got close but this is their vision truly realised
| |
agreed
| |
This song is pretty damn cool played at 1.25 speed. The Maiden influence is strong in this one.
| |
First two were good but this is really straightforward and doesn't have anything special going for it.
| |
that 1.25 speed is a game changer. it's so boring at normal speed.
| |
Moth in Flames was good. This is boring. But old Metallica energy is back and James sound better then ever. at least some positives
| |
that 1.25 speed is a game changer. it's so boring at normal speed [2]
| |
Other singles were better, this is decent but nothing great
| |
Aren't we going to discuss how Hollowed Be Thy Name it is at times?
| |
lol
| |
They sound like a mediocre Metallica cover band at this point.
| |
Who would want to be a Metallica cover band.
Avenged Sevenfold tried it for one album and they turned to just barely being above mediocrity before finally snapping back to their senses and making damn fun stuff again.
| |
You mean they snapped back into the trashwater band they were before trying to bite Metallica's style.
| |
Metallica should copy Avenged, then at the very least I wouldn't bored out of my mind when I listen to them.
| |
"Avenged Sevenfold tried it for one album and they turned to just barely being above mediocrity before finally snapping back to their senses and making damn fun stuff again."
irrelevant
| |
Yikes. Snide I wanna give you a wet willy so bad right now.
| |
Metallica is one of the most boring bands on the planet, and easily the worst of the big four of the time.
| |
Cliff Burton is in heaven making The Rev brush his chest hair.
| |
You mean Cliff Burton is in heaven making The Rev a sandwich and polishing his double bass pedals
| |
M. Shadows dressed up as James Hetfield for Halloween but nobody gave him candy
| |
James Hetfield was actually the one who got a rock for Halloween instead of candy.
| |
Metallica > Anthrax
| |
Honestly I like this more than Hardwired but Moth Into Flame was better, agreed.
| |
"gonna be the best album ever" [2]
| |
Metallica > Anthrax
Anthrax has been kicking their asses for years
| |
People still care about this?
| |
God why do they do videos like this? It doesn't show a band vibrant with energy. It shows a bunch of old dudes who look exhausted and frustrated. The only one with a positive vibe is Lars but he's air drumming along as if it's hard to keep up with a 4/4 beat. Put it to rest and enjoy your money Metallica.
| |
Third strike, you're out.
| |
Cliff Burton is in heaven making The Rev brush his chest hair.

Seriously one of the funniest things I've read on this site. Thank you guys.
| |
*hardwired and moth singles come out and sputnik says*: Wow guys this is surprisingly good, the new album could be their best in a while.
*atlas single comes out* Wow wtf new album is gonna be ass, they should just retire now. I have never been so bored in my life.
Wtf.
| |
Anthrax has never written a stellar album
| |
