plus side: if there is no real beat, he can't sound out of place on it
down side: you have to listen to just eminem for eight minutes straight
|
| |
yeah it came up on the YouTube front page, it's just straight barz
|
| |
HYPE
|
| |
Not particularly interesting, but I guess it get his point across by focusing on the lyrics
|
| |
"The rapper also announced plans to drop a follow up to 2013's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 on his Twitter account."
oh no.
|
| |
Fuck this goes hard af
|
| |
blah blah
|
| |
Yeah tbh this is his best song in a loooong time, most of the rhymes actually make sense instead of just being a bunch of random bullshit
|
| |
The more I listen to it, the less it sounds like a Trump diss. Most of it barely focuses on him. Still, the bars and wordplay are impressive
|
| |
Glad to hear that Eminem is still the official poet of the genre.
|
| |
He has some good songs on his newer records, like Bad Guy.
|
| |
"Glad to hear that Eminem is still the official poet of the genre."
what the fuck
|
| |
^aka someone who doesn't listen to rap
|
| |
@Cygnatti Fuck yeah I like rap. Still don't have as much as I should, but I definitely do (from time to time).
|
| |
Kendrick is a poet, Eminem became a shit show with a couple of good songs amongst terrible songs.
|
| |
Yeah wouldn't exactly call Eminem a poet by any means
|
| |
@Faraudo Can't fully agree with that, but yeah, his past few albums weren't that good...
|
| |
Yeah maybe a poet is too far, but he has great wordplay.
|
| |
"Glad to hear that Eminem is still the official poet of the genre."
exactly how many rappers have you heard?
|
| |
it was a joke, but also kinda not. and fuck, why is kendrick even mentioned here. can we not?
|
| |
Well, Kendrick is a pretty good example of a poet that raps, in spite of Eminem being shit for the last 10 years.
|
| |
"Glad to hear that Eminem is still the official poet of the genre."
fucking lol
|
| |
the closest thing to a poet em has ever been is on his early stuff, and even that is more like attending a poetry slam with a shotgun
|
| |
"Well, Kendrick is a pretty good example of a poet that raps, in spite of Eminem being shit for the last 10 years."
[...!!!}
|
| |
Em stans amaze me sometimes lol. Desus and Mero had a hilarious take on this song. Basically ripped into him and his fans in the funniest way
|
| |
Youtube: "this song could literally end Trumps campaign like he ended Fred Durst's music career"
Yeah Stans are the worst
|

eminem still makes music lol

5.0 classic
50 Cent Get Rich or Die Tryin'
|
| |
This song really highlights what I don't really like about the way Eminem rhymes.
|
| |
on infinite he was poetic or at least trying to be
|
| |
Kendrick is not the poet of the genre. Eminem is not the poet of the genre.
The question is: who is? Rap blows right now (and maybe always has?/ has never been as good as it should be?) but I find it strange there is a shortage of truly poetic rappers out there. i guess its because they would tend to pursue different styles of music that have greater concentration on emotion conveyed by other instruments/singing and thus wouldn't be rappers? whatever the case is, rap is young and after it gets over this hurdle of bullshit gang-banging/sex/fame/popularity/money/drugs infatuation, it will probably be awesome, as it is at very rare times now for me.
In regards to this vid, pretty good but probably never going to listen to it again.
|
| |
It's like the people here don't even listen to rap despite constantly having huge albums pushed to the forefront of this site.
|
| |
I wasn't serious with the whole calling him a poet thing. Fucking lol guys
Rap ain't poetry at all although there's some wicked shit out there. m/
|
| |
man eminem fucking STINKS
|
| |
This M&Ms dude is trying way too hard to get on that Lin Manuel-Miranda level

this thread is bad
|

He sounds so different, it's weird. Also he referenced Kendrick with the spray tan line
|
| |
"Rap ain't poetry at all"
brb or not gotta play Russian roulette after reading that
before I go I will say this freestyle was like a 3/5 if it was an amateur so idk where it can even rate since it's Eminem.
|
| |

Ok first of, trying to find one "definitive poet" in an entire genre with decades of built diversity is idiotic and only limits your scope of discovery. Second of holy FUCK your comment.
|
| |
There's a lot of good rap out there atm imo
|
| |
stop this thread2016
|
| |
Trump is too easy of a target, theres no challenge
|

and it was one line in 8 minutes but let's make sure to include that in the headline!

There's* no challenge, agreed.

'its clipping bitch.' x2
Haha, too accurate
|
| |
50 cent > eminem
tbh
|
| |
˄ no tbh
|
| |
My god this thread is awful!
Eminem is still a technically excellent rapper but the problem is he's had nothing different to say for ages and most of his beats have sucked recently. If he actually has something to rap about and gets decent production then he could still release a top album but it's unlikely IMO for a super rich middle aged dude to have anything to really rap about.
|
| |
Thread is hilarious tbh
|
| |
I mean
after listening, good on him for such a minimal beat I guess, and he's still technically on par with some of the best of em, and the fact that he still knows how to rhyme words for 8 minutes straight is impressive
but it's lines like "hands cuppin my nuts" and shit like that that reminds me that really, he needs more interesting topics to discuss. like really, trump slander? wow man, crazy. its sad that he fits so well in the pop rap niche, cause if dude got on some more experimental beats, and discussed some different topics, he could make something REALLY good
|
| |
"Bring it boiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii"
there are more pressing matters itt like quoting this future classic
"Rap blows right now (and maybe always has?/ has never been as good as it should be?)"
but i'll just leave this here
4.5 superb
Aesop Rock The Impossible Kid
|
| |
Pretty sure Fred Durst's career was killed by a number of factors, none of them being Eminem.
1. Wes Borland left the band and they couldn't settle on a decent replacement hence 3 albums worth of material was scrapped and then cobbled together for Results May Vary
2. Nu Metal was dying anyway
3. Durst wanted to go into independent movie directing. He's directed some good music videos but his movies are meh.
4. Durst's ego
None of them had anything to do with Eminem
|
| |
I wonder if this track was in anyway influenced by Clipping.
|
| |
I'm so meh at all the songs artists are making about trump. It's lazy as fuck. Everyone knows he's batshit; you're not informing anyone of anything. If anything you're immortalizing him with all your dumb shit. Just stop it.
|

i want a rapper to spit about the national debt and interest on the debt

Lol I think Aesop is good oh man you sure got me
|

anybody with an aesop rating above a 4 gets the automatic side eye in hip hop discussions
|
| |
Why
|
| |
because theyre more susceptible to making comments like this
"The question is: who is? Rap blows right now (and maybe always has?/ has never been as good as it should be?) but I find it strange there is a shortage of truly poetic rappers out there. i guess its because they would tend to pursue different styles of music that have greater concentration on emotion conveyed by other instruments/singing and thus wouldn't be rappers? whatever the case is, rap is young and after it gets over this hurdle of bullshit gang-banging/sex/fame/popularity/money/drugs infatuation, it will probably be awesome, as it is at very rare times now for me."
|
| |
Oh yeah I forgot that opinions don't exist and if someone likes something more than you they just "don't understand hip-hop, maaaan"
|
| |
Also you can't strawman Aesop fans to make them seem like they think hip-hop is "gangbanger bullshit that was never that great anyway", the one person who made that comment doesn't even have any Aesop albums rated ffs
|
| |
anyway ur taking this too seriously, i was just joking with my man Ghost

My car.... and my guitar

Congrats mega you've left me speechless

Even I know the hip hop scene is doing pretty well and I know nothing about hip hop. Gotta be a troll, hip hop's always been about gang bangin and all that jazz.

Goes in
|

Lol at all the edgy people saying eminem's wordplay is whack.
|
| |
Well at least it's not another one of his bland ass radio pop rap songs that'd make me want to jump out a building after hearing it for the thousandth time. It's got that going for it, I guess.
|
| |
Lol at all the people whose only hip hop ratings are Eminem albums defending Eminem
|
| |
Not impressed.
Well, slightly impressed, but mostly bored.
|
| |
at least the top comments on the youtube video have turned against eminem
|
| |
Lol at all the people who think I have rated every single album I've heard
Also lol @ Alex for trying to be a prick for no reason

Ayyyyye nigga you found it. Left that there for ya, call it the Key special.
Really did enjoy that album, tho. Haven't heard any of his other shit except some Gandolf ripoff song he did a few years back and have no idea what any of his fans are like cause I never read the YT comments or anything.
|
| |
[2] Except I've never heard this gandolf rip off and I don't think I want to either
|
| |
Song could really benefit from just a small backing beat with a nice bassline, would have made this quite a bit better. Still is a decent track.
|
| |
So excited for a new album. MMLP2 is my favorite from him, so I hope he does a style similar on the album
|
| |
I think this would be a lot more interesting with something backing it. What it has right now does nothing
|
| |

haha i know man i'm just messin. some of his fans def are insufferable tho
|
| |
Considering you listen to a lot more in the genre than I do, how would you roughly rate that? I thought the beats were all pretty solid and catchy, plus some of the vocal arrangements seemed neat. I get that you don't like the verbosity though.
|
| |
it's not my cup of tea, that type of hip hop really rubs me the wrong way...but if i were to try to be objective about it i'd say 3-3.5
|
| |
I heard my name
just rearranged
|
| |
Followup, how would you rate Love Sosa or Hot Nigga?
|
| |
5/5, one of my favorite songs of the decade

hot nigga is w/e...was fun the first or second listen
|

"one of my favorite songs of the decade"
I hate that I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

Know what? That's probably a Key alt that he rated Aesop 4's on just to throw off any suspicion. I'm onto you with your maize game.
