Devy can do no wrong. Gorgeous.
| |
song is cool, jammed it about 5 times now.
| |
yeeeeus waiting until i get home i guess
| |
Yeah, it's been on loop. That solo and those horns... *jizz*
| |
Kinda feels like a mid-paced Planet of the Apes. Sweet guitar solo! He doesn't do enough of those.
| |
contains all the elements i don't like from modern devy but generally constructed much better. like it a lot, much more roomy.
| |
2 new awesome songs in 1 day
| |
What's the other?
| |
Dillinger?
| |
Ya obviously dillinger
| |
ruuuules
| |
This is really good.
| |
Yea this kicks ass.
| |
This article mentions Ween, but I don't see Ars here yet... has anyone heard from him lately?
| |
Best Devin in a while. Songs fantastic
| |
Aw yes, I'm glad he's decided to go more prog. I enjoyed Sky Blue and Epicloud but this is a breath of fresh air. I honestly had low expectations for this.
| |
remember when devy riffs had more than one note?
awesome guitar solo tho definitely makes the song for me. stoked to hear the rest
| |
Yeah this is the best thing he's done since Addicted. We will see what else comes.
| |
Giving in to the hype yet bloc?
| |
"remember when devy riffs had more than one note?"
He doesn't need more than one note though...
| |
Look at songs like Things beyond things, that song is only 2 chords and it's still beautifull.
| |
"remember when devy riffs had more than one note?"
Remember how awesome 'Regulator' is?
| |
"Giving in to the hype yet bloc?"
NEVAAAAAAARRRRR!!!!
| |
Damn gotta check this.
| |
I really thought he would go the pop route again so I had really low expectations, this is exactly what I wanted. That solo is really good. Plus Truth remaster is always great.
| |
Hype! It seems like it's been forever since I've heard his voice, even though I know it's not true.
| |
Step in the right direction after so many pop albums. I could do without the bombastic production, but that solo was really neat.
| |
sweet
| |
Wow, this is immediately better than most of Sky. Some really clever drumming going on here too.
| |
So excited for this album now, song is great! And the production is really nice, everything sounds in place
| |
gorgeous
| |
Cool to see that Stars made the album, it was awesome watching him make that song in devin townsend challenge.
| |
Damn, great track.
Consider me hyped.
| |
That was better than anything off of Z2 or Sky Blue, loved hearing JUST Devins vocals for once. Still don't think the orchestra and choir add anything and detract from the overall experience but I can be satisfied with this, pretty damn good track.
At least I could actually pick out instruments in this one instead a big wall of noise like Epicloud and Sky blue.
| |
Apparently Nolly Getgood was involved in production on this album, which may explain why Devy's wall of sound is less claustrophobic than it has been in the recent past.
| |
dat solo
| |
I am fucking stoked for that Ween cover
| |
I miss old devy production
| |
the djent bullshit is getting real fucking old tune back to open C ffs
| |
Dev is too good to be associated with modern prog metal/djent, really hope he doesn't get dragged into that circle of shite
| |
"we all rip off meshuggah"
| |
I really hope that this album is decent. I haven't liked anything DT has done since Ghost.
| |
casualties was sweet
| |
7/10
| |
ooooof, straight up class
| |
yea devin is one of the most talented artists around but he's got quite a few average to poor albums. hopefully this one hits the mark
| |
this and new dear hunter at the same time.
my dick can only handle so much
| |
it's a good track, I might actually check this out. Lost interest after Epicloud but this sounds more like it
| |
back to open C ffs [2²2424]
| |
Hevy Devy for the win. This is gorgeous and a beautiful breath of fresh air. Stoked as fuck.
| |
This is open tuning ffs. Even Casulties was open c. Its all he ever plays in 99% of the time
| |
The last Devy album I was fanboy levels into was Addicted, everything since then has been lukewarm to straight up disappointing to me.
| |
Casualties? Decon? I loved the mother fuck out of both of those albums.
On the other hand, Epicloud and Z2 were really bleh as much as I wanted to enjoy those. Still have high respect for Devin. Just ready for some new stuff.
| |
song rules more every time i listen goddamn
| |
its indeed a very devy song
| |
Thought there was supposed to be another track released??
| |
I think sometime either this week or next week, Secret Sciences is the next one
| |
This is open tuning ffs
not open C ffs
| |
hype!
| |
I'm extremely intrigued to hear if the next track is as thought out and as clear as this one.
| |
New track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy7uQ4evb8g
| |
man its gorgeous
| |
Yep I think I feel safe being hyped now. Classic Devy riffs are back.
| |
I tried to make a news article but I'm horrible at it and lazy so someone should do it for the good of the community.
| |
sounds great yea, looking forward to this album!
| |
Guys, see him live if you have the chance. Just caught him in Edmonton. I was actually looking forward to Fallujah, and then leaving midway through Devin's set. I'm not sure why, but I expected cringe-worthy Ziltoid stuff.
In actuality, Fallujah was just alright (I think the live mixing sucked for them, Carstairs' guitar was too quiet), and Devin Townsend Project may have been the best act I've ever seen live. He played a lot of Ziltoid stuff (with no imagery, and only one coffee speech thank god) and a lot of stuff from the upcoming album.
I went outside and had a smoke, came in, and he started playing this song. And it was blissful. I mean, it may have been the weed, but it was euphoric. Somehow, everything he played was even better live than on disc. It was this huge, intimidating wall of sound that just enveloped you. Goddamn that was loud. And the melodies stuck out so much more than other bands I've seen live. Such a great stage presence, and the 4 of them were FLAWLESS. Goddamn man.
SEE THEM LIVE.
| |
Yeah dude Devin is one of the greatest live performers I've ever seen. Still hitting those highs and soaring over the likes of Kingdom like a boss.
| |
I am so, so, so pleasantly-surprised. Very glad I stuck around. I couldn't stop staring forward and focusing on nothing else. What a professional. I mean, the bassist's guitar was out for a full song with techs scrambling around him and the song *still* sounded good and they were such pros about it.
Great guy, too. Whenever I go to The Starlite Room in Edmonton, there's a Wok Box 30 seconds away, so I eat there. Closest restaurant that's not sketchy. I go to eat an hour before he's on, and Devin is eating noodles with the band and a tour manager. I regret not eavesdropping. Then some people walk by, do a double-take an enter the restaurant looking nervous and asked him for an autograph. He talked with them for 5 minutes before finishing his food and inviting them outside, then they took a bunch of photos together and then walked to the venue together just talking. Real personable guy -- very humble.
Man. Again. Pure euphoria, that show. Couldn't stop smiling. Nothing makes me happier than seeing true professionals partake in a passion they live & breath. And god did the melody in their songs ever stick-out in a live environment.
| |
Met Devin twice, he is definitely as cool as you would hope.
| |
That's awesome!
I listened to a lot of SYL in college not realizing it was a character. Just thought it was badass. I cringe in retrospect and am not a fan of a lot of SYL's material, but only now I'm checking back into Devin Townsend for the first time since Addicted came out. Holy hell, did I ever miss his best work!
| |
Wtf SYL rules straight up you don't have to be angsty to enjoy it lol
Have you jammed ocean machine through to accelerated evolution of his solo stuff? His most exciting and dynamic stuff by far, even though the songwriting is just as good, sometimes better on subsequent releases. They've recently released a CD pack with all 5 of those albums for about $15 total
| |
SYL was not a character. Devin is bipolar and used to suffer from depression and SYL was his release. However as Ben said just now his best material was his early solo material Ocean Machine Biomech and Accelerated Evolution. Also Casualties of Cool is outstanding.
| |
He probably wasn't actually bipolar. Apparently pot and alcohol just didn't mix well with his psychological chemistry.

| |
That was a neat interview to read! Glad to hear he's in a much better place mentally now.
