"hey guys, I know we're in our mid-30s, but sleeveless leather is still cool, right? And memes too, yeah? Kids these days love these 'meme' things, don't they?"
eesh

ffs
|
| |
super saiyan whibley
|
| |
why does this band need three guitarists?
song was aight but the verses had me feeling like I'd heard them somewhere else before
|
| |
I'm speechless. I guess you could interpret that they're doing this ironically and showing that the internet is drowned in dank maymays, but nobody will bother going that deep. Way to shoot your "comeback" in the foot before it even started.
|
| |
Chuck was their last good album
|
| |
do you guys even remember who sum 41 is? Good to see they can still be dumb and fun they like they used to be. Over-analyzing the crap out of this.
|
| |
Over-analyzing Sum 41 is dumb agreed, but you can't deny this song/video has the slight feel of listening to your 52 year old stepdad playing Green Day covers in the garage
I enjoyed both the song and video FWIW, and for whatever that says about me.
|
| |
Don't care about the video, song just doesn't do anything for me though. Some bands evolve their sound as their audience grows up with them, some cater to the same high school demographic forever. Guess I just outgrew Sum41.
|
| |
Verses and bridge were nice, chorus is underwhelming. I think it's obvious the video isn't made to approach the young "lulz nyancat is awesum"-crowd but rather to show that they're annoyed by the meme-overload. Song is decent overall, still got hopes for the album since they got their old guitarist back. Chuck rules.
|
| |
this sounds like a chuck b-side so i dig it, gives me that preteen nostalgia
video is dumb af though
|
| |
Solid song of course, and the video isn't that bad. I've seen a lot stupider videos.
As a fellow brown man, I am proud to hear the positive impact Dave had on their sound. Particularly proud because it's fuckin' rock lol
|
| |
sum 41 being sum 41, anyone particularly offended by it was expecting a complete departure in sound or something lol.
also glad whibley's looking relatively healthier.
|
| |
he's looking healthier, but he's just so damn skinny.
didn't mind the video actually. nice to see brownsound and cone again
|
| |
How is that video stupid ?
|
| |
Pretty sure this video is making fun of pop culture by saying it's destroying actual culture, not "look at us, we put memes in our vids"
|
| |
"Pretty sure this video is making fun of pop culture by saying it's destroying actual culture,"
so its a bunch of mid 30 somethings getting deep about how the memes are destroying our culture, man. its an awful video regardless of how we look at it.
|
| |
It's a cheesy video but I get the point they're trying to bring up.
|
| |
This video is good. The untastiness is done on purpose in order to match their opinion of the internet culture. If you find the video disgusting, cheap and somewhat filthy, you have Sum 41's opinion on what they describe. I think the cheapness/cheasiness particularly conveys perfectly the feeling that everything is flat and fake.
|
| |
but just because I find this to be a bad music video that doesn't mean "I agree, internet culture has gotten flat, fake, and tasteless". It means I think the music video is a sloppy, inconsistent mess that cant really pick a time period to criticize (the fuck are angry birds doing here) in culture and has way too many shots of those Nyan Cats for it to convey what its aiming for.
And on the other hand, it looks like a bunch of mid 30 dudes yelling "kids these days" as if Kim kardashian's ass actually DID knock society down a few pegs when honestly no one outside of the TMZ crowd gave a shit about it. Also not to mention A LOT of stuff in this video isn't anything thats been a part of internet culture nor was a product of the internet... it just feels like they just threw a lot of shit together and rolled with it.

^^

That green day gurning charade was an abomination 15yrs ago but this fella still dishes it out. You're my age mate for fuck sake. Pack it in.
|
| |
The song is meh but the video makes me cringe hard.
|
| |
"so its a bunch of mid 30 somethings getting deep about how the memes are destroying our culture, man. its an awful video regardless of how we look at it."
Saying that bands always get deep about there stuff. Band sort of never wanted to lose their privilege of being labelled a fun band. Looking it this way. video is basically a modern version of The Hell Song and after all the editing is brilliant.
|
| |
@Clover well, you're arguing on a whole other level. I mean, we're talking about the last music video of a punk/metal band who wants to be fun in the first place, not the last essay of a renowned sociologist.
Yes, they seem to have thrown a lot of shit together and rolled with it. And the idea of the video can be summed up in one sentence and isn't particularly well developped. Fine. Does that make it a bad music video ? No.
=>"its an awful video regardless of how we look at it." Did they kill your dog or something ?
|
| |
"I mean, we're talking about the last music video of a punk/metal band, not the last essay of a renowned sociologist."
Yes, this is a music video from Sum "the doctors said my mom should've had an abortion" 41. Just because its from a band that isnt some super "artsy" group or something doesn't mean that it automatically makes a music video thats bad good. At least Weezer could make a meme-y music video not absolutely dreadful.
"Did they kill your dog or something ?"
Did they give you a dog or something? I guess just because I hate it and you like it I'm just the hard ass for having an opinion you don't agree with. Come on man. I just thought it was bad, I didn't need to expand upon it but you're the one saying "because you said its bad you actually agree that its good" and that other stupid pretentious shit.
|
| |
"Band sort of never wanted to lose their privilege of being labelled a fun band."
Screaming Bloody Murder disagrees with you, this song is fun tho.
|
| |
that video was cringy as fuck, the song sounds slightly above average for them
|
| |
Im digging the song, mixing sounds better on it than it did on the last thread for this. Im expecting the new album to be decent at the very least.
|
| |
I bet you are jealous because you never shared a stage with Trevor.
|
| |
Thought the song was decent enough for Sum 41 (could have been a lot worse). Having Brownsound back gives them a more metal edge which always suited them.
Can't say I like the video, and can't say I will stay up late waiting for this album but I might give it a listen. People take this shit way too seriously - Sum 41 are a nostalgia band now and so what.
|
| |
Dissappointed that this oldie didn't show up in the video

wow was that 2013? hes looking a lot better now and days.

he was in the process of dying from alcoholism. there's nothing funny or amusing about that picture
|
| |
He looks like John belushis dug up corpse.
Cool!
|
| |
"I'm speechless. I guess you could interpret that they're doing this ironically and showing that the internet is drowned in dank maymays, but nobody will bother going that deep. Way to shoot your "comeback" in the foot before it even started."
True, they may have gone In Too Deep
|
| |
Video really is cringe-worthy and I've always kept up with and been a supporter of the band. The song was okay, glad they're staying with the heavy theme found on SBM. I really hope this is a kick-ass record, will be interesting to see how Deryck bounces back from all he's been through. Hoping for the best for them.
|
| |
he was in the process of dying from alcoholism. there's nothing funny or amusing about that picture [2]
|
| |
The song's awesome - I've been really hyped for this album and the song didn't disappoint. Here's to hoping other songs from their new album of are the same quality (if not, better).
The video is actually decently shot, but has an intentional awful overabundance of lame effects (I laughed really hard though when I saw the caveman Spongebob Squarepants appear).
|

he was in the process of dying from alcoholism. there's nothing funny or amusing about that picture [3]

itt 3 users in the process of dying of hypsensitivitivism
|
| |
I love the meaning behind this music video. How today's mainstream culture is disgusting and extremely artificial.
|
| |
Yeah Sum 41 aren't *green day gurn* artificial in the *pop punk radio tune* slightest way.
I mean they are the embodiment of *party tunes 14yr old jock horsehit* anti establishment, boundary expanding *say nothing mean even less* incendiary rock n roll sung from the *cash register* soul.
|
| |
My main issue with this song is the chorus. It's almost identical to the one on "Thanks For Nothing" (one of Sum 41's older songs), and that song's way better than this one IMO.
The music video was just... odd. Not really sure what to think of it.
That being said, I'll definitely being checking the album out when it's released. I'm glad to see Deryck healthy again and Dave back in the band.
|
| |
Why should anyone feel sorry for an alcoholic cokehead?
|
| |
This isn't terrible; timing works with the current (if not shallow) 00's pop-punk reunions happening.
|
| |
video is retarded, and the point of it is pretty tenuous, it's like these guys are suddenly all "get off my lawn".
|
| |
Would just like to add that owen is an asshole
|
| |
thanks bb
|
| |
he was in the process of dying from alcoholism. there's nothing funny or amusing about that picture sorry, but that pic is objectively hilarious. doesn't mean i wish him ill, it's just funny. he looked like a wax statue of fat mike. glad he's apparently doing better.

This fuckin rules.
