hey sputnik
| |
Awesome, looking forward to this release, start the hype train.
| |
I really enjoyed this track. It sounds like a natural progression from M/M. If the rest of the tracks are this good, I'll be very happy.
| |
Dustin, is that really you? I can't tell.
Still good, all aboard the hype train
| |
that was good.
| |
Its definitely got some of the old edge from the Thrice we began to love
| |
sounds great. vocals are on point as usual
| |
Yeah this probably would fit on Major Minor just fine, but that's fine since that was a damn fine album.
| |
oh shit that chorus high note is sexy af
| |
"Dustin, is that really you? I can't tell."
Not sure what's meant by this...
| |
new song is fire
| |
catchy
| |
oh shit that chorus high note is sexy af [2]
this is probably a really weird comparison to draw but it reminds me of Make Do and Mend's second album lol
| |
Hoping this will grow on me, I feel like it's one of their least interesting songs since Identity Crisis. I otherwise really dig the tone of the new material and the band clearly has energy to spare so I'm hoping the uncharacteristically direct vibe I'm getting is just cause it's a lead single.
| |
Guys this sounds like a fucking Nickelback song
| |
yeah nah
| |
This is a fine song and a great comeback so far. And yes that note in the chorus is m/
| |
Definitely a more streamlined song from them, but as a comeback single I think it works great.
| |
'Guys this sounds like a fucking Nickelback song'
it's not unlike a Seether song tbh. but the execution and the production and the performances are spot on to make it more enjoyable than Seether to me
| |
honestly don't know how to feel about this
what i got from this is a post-grunge version of manchester orchestra
| |
As a comeback single, this works excellently. Awesome song, great energy albeit quite straightforward. One of my favorite bands of all time, and they did not disappoint.
| |
I meant to say that his voice sounds a little different. Just aging a little.
| |
pretty gooooood
| |
I mean it's ok. A bit boring, nothing really special here, but it's not bad.
| |
Not bad. I feel the vocals are a little raspy tho.
| |
Catchy. Those vocals are gold though.
| |
stop touring with la dispute. smh.
| |
and i'm SIIIIIIIIICK OF IIIIIIIIIT
Thank you, Dustin, Teppei, Eddie, and Riley. Really damn good stuff
| |
i guess i haven't heard this guy's voice in a long time
| |
i'll go take a shit
| |
vocals were good but musically this is significantly more uninspired than anything they've done previously
| |
That chorus really makes the song. Totally digging this as a single, hopefully the rest of the album isn't quite this straightforward, but we will see. Stoked for May 27th now!
| |
don't see what is special about this at all. The seether comparison someone mentioned really isn't even that far off. This is extremely uninspired and reminds me of Refused return which is not a good sign.
| |
"We wave our flags and swallow fear like medicine."
"We panic at the sight of different colored skin. We got a plan to justify each mess were in."
Those few lines apart separate them from the BS mainstream rock of NB and Seether. I do hear similar sounds to Seether but no. I think this is better than a fourth of MM. It's a solid song that definitely screams single. Content is interesting and refreshing.
| |
Thank you baby Jesus for giving me this amazing song
| |
Good song, if a little straightforward, but as it's been said, fantastic for a comeback single. And yeah, that high note in the chorus is dope.
| |
dont really care about this band but that production is weird af and makes the song kinda shitty
| |
Thrice lyrics support Bernie Sanders confirmed.
| |
s'alright. really good to see thrice back.
| |
Is the song really straight forward? Yes.
Is the production a little weird? Yes.
Is the music on par with a lot of the mainstream rock we hear nowadays? Yes.
The thing that has always set Thrice apart from other musicians is their songwriting and lyrical content. If you're upset about how this sounds like radio rock, listen to something beyond the music itself. These guys have always been a step ahead of everyone else. That still hasn't changed.
| |
This sounds great, much more exciting than Major/Minor. Don't get the comparisons to corporate butt rock at all.
| |
big fat meh for me. also is it just me or is his voice starting to sound like if the singer from The Fray had a throat infection?
| |
Catchy and straightforward. Still hopeful for the album.
| |
I like it, but it's not as good as I hoped it would be, it's a little too straightforward
| |
This is pretty bad unfortunately
| |
Will listen to this soon.
| |
I'm pretty surprised by how positive the reaction is, it's to post grungey
| |
mediocre
| |
bland as fuck, no surprise sput is mindlessly bumming them out
| |
^did you listen to major/minor??
| |
Lyrics are all I see
Left to my devices
Ignorant to the sound
| |
another thrice song
and thrice, unsurprisingly, still suck.
| |
Whoa bro. They are the Beatles of post hardcore. Show some respect
| |
Yeah, but people hate the Beatles nowadays. It's the cool thing to do.
| |
thrice are not the beatles of post hardcore lol
| |
"Whoa bro. They are the Beatles of post hardcore. Show some respect"
not exactly sure the comparison you're trying to make but that would probably be unwound or fugazi
| |
Unwound for sure
this band is cool but tbh i rated what i heard highly but never listen them, just because theyre solid at what they do but what they do really isnt that unique/interesting
| |
pretty sure the alchemy index is one of the most unique/interesting albums ive ever heard.
| |
alchemy index is neutered and pretty un hardcore tbh
| |
no clue what that means. what's that gotta do with unique or interesting
| |
if you cant work that out then theres no hope for you
| |
well thanks for clarifying and being a dick.
| |
Not even being a dick chill out you melon
| |
To comment on the actual song, it rocks, like real hard. Seems like a perfect progression from Major/Minor. Love the grungish sound. It's also probably the most punk rock thing they've done like ever.
| |
oh shit that chorus high note is sexy af [3]
| |
this is ok ~~~ was expecting something new / better than prior release
| |
I think every song off MM could've been some radio rock BS. I loved it though. So maybe people who hate that record are hating this song?
| |
never listened to mm, but this is just bland as a mf
| |
dustin seems to be feeling the bern here, spewing canned lines about fear and hate
looks like the donald is already making america great again by getting 2000s post hardcore bands to reunite. thursday release when?
| |
hey Torts. No.
| |
it has a punkier feel than anything else they've done is all i mean. it's not punk rock. same goes for the grunge/post grunge feel.
| |
"this is probably a really weird comparison to draw but it reminds me of Make Do and Mend's second album lol"
It's not that weird of a comparison. The problem is MDAM is grossly overrated, and this song...did not leave a good first impression
| |
Good song.
| |
nope
| |
happen to stumble upon? I've been a fan of Thrice for 15 years and they do not resemble anything close to radio rock. please don't assume I don't know anything about punk rock. all i said was it has a punk rock feel. then followed that with it's not punk rock. also, their early material is pretty damn close to punk. i can see that you've rated exactly one thrice album (and a four at that). Not sure if that means you haven't heard anything else, but before you go around talking about a band you havent listened to, listen to them. consider learning what music is? what are you basing this on? it looks like we have similar tastes in music. you are a troll. fuck yourself and have a nice day.
| |
Whoa, some hardcore elitism being thrown around in here.
| |
so you assume that just because I haven't rated a bands album, that I haven't heard anything from them? you're a fucking moron. this is a shit, boring ass, radio rock song. sterile as all hell, nothing more than a blatant attempt at a last reach for relevancy. If you can't see that you're c l u e l e s s
| |
i apologize for letting myself get worked up. i'm out. i like thrice and the song.
| |
still a moron
| |
calling someone who disagrees with you a troll is some weak ass shit
| |
he didn't disagree with me he told me to "log the fuck off" and "piss of." i'm happy to have a constructive conversation.
| |
Telling someone they're wrong for enjoying something you don't is pretty trollish, though.
I haven't listened to the song yet, but to be fair, I really like Thrice. If that means I have "shit music taste," then so be it.
| |
it doesn't.
| |
not your not you liar you called me a dick or whatever before i even said anything mean to you, your bad aswell dont deny it
and dinosaur torts isnt saying hes wrong for enjoying it, hes wrong for the claims about punk rock he made
lotta ppl who cant read in this thread
| |
True, I'm more referring to henry saying "good song" and the immediate response of "nope."
| |
oh yeah i didnt notice that soz
| |
saying theres no hope for me is a dick thing to say.
| |
let's start over everyone. cant we be friends.
| |
not that good
| |
This thread has gotten really pissy. Back on track. While the song isn't amazing and will definitely never be considered one of their best. It's still overall really good and I feel it showcases how talented Thrice still are.
| |
@danred i think i feel that way about every single they've ever released. they pretty much end up being my least favorite song on every album. All thats left, stare at the sun, image of the invisible, all the world is mad, yellow belly are probably my least favorites.
| |
don't worry jmh, you're not missing out on much if you become enemies with torts and mort.
| |
Whoever hasn't listened to MM should check out Treading Paper and Listen Through Me.
| |
lol.
| |
neat song agreed with the uninspired bit though. these guys have proven they can experiment well I dunno why they wouldn't try again now. whenever this happens I feel bands turn into another medium for the lead singer's career.
| |
"don't worry jmh, you're not missing out on much if you become enemies with torts and mort."
dunno about mort but torts....yeah.
| |
I still haven't listened to M/M but this song's okay. Hopefully it sounds better in context with the new album.
| |
jmh - I'd agree with all those except Stare At The Sun, I still love that track. But yeah, I imagine there will be much better tracks on the album. I've never disliked a Thrice album, and I doubt this one will break that trend
| |
y'all really are awful
| |
Opinions are neat.
| |
good thing you being an awful user isn't an opinion
| |
Y'know, I felt like actually trying to have a dialogue with you, but I feel like all you'd do is just insult me, so I don't see what the point would be.
| |
dustin sounds beastly on this. his voice seriously improves every release.
| |
can't take some internet words can we buddy? :^( so sorry for you
| |
No, I just meant it would be absolutely meaningless. Just like everything else you say. We're done here.
| |
user DinosaurJones thinks what I say is meaningless, cool
| |
Intro had me hopeful but verse let me down a bit. Chorus and bridge were good, tho.
His voice just keeps getting better.
| |
Does this band still suck? Someone lemme know.
| |
they suck now yea
| |
His growl on this song is phenomenal
| |
seems like they took the balance and composure route and just turned into stale dad punk
| |
shit tossing aside, this is relatively close to radio rock.
it doesn't help that every other band has borrowed and beaten their genre to death.
| |
Vocals are really good. The rest is pretty catchy in a pedestrian sort of way. Solid overall, but not much more. I'm still pretty excited.
| |
Sounds like something off Carry The Fire, with a little bit of M/M thrown in.
| |
i love m/m but yeah i think this is pretty bad, on par with the worst parts of tAitA, maybe worse
| |
"it has a punkier feel than anything else they've done is all i mean. it's not punk rock. same goes for the grunge/post grunge feel."
There's nothing "punkier" about it. Are you fucking retarded? Their first two albums were as close to punk as they will ever get.
| |
I love Thrice, but this was bland as hell.
| |
@pit to be fair, I think s/he is referring more to "dad punk" rather than "punk" in general. like the gaslight anthem vs. night birds and such.
| |
"@pit to be fair, I think s/he is referring more to "dad punk" rather than "punk" in general. like the gaslight anthem vs. night birds and such."
Lol there's nothing really dad punk about it, either. That being said, if he thinks this is "punkier" than anything they've ever done, I guarantee you he's never heard their first two.
| |
good song, not the best Thrice song, but single-worthy
| |
HOLY FUCK
| |
Been listening to illusion and identity since i was 16 buddy. get off your high horse. you're probably right that identity crisis is their punkiest material. Maybe i misspoke in saying ever. I'll rephrase to since illusion. But all i really mean is the rhythm is punky. that is all. move on people.
| |
so good
| |
Nothing special about this song tbh. It doesn't really get me excited, but it doesn't make me think their new album wont be up to par either. Feels like a warm up, hopefully to more ambitious things .
| |
It's a good catchy song overall, not groudbreaking or anything but a good hook into hearing the rest of the record.
Dustin's vocals are the best thing here though, especially on the chorus, he keeps improving every album
| |
It's nothing special really, the chorus high note was cool, he sounds very raspy. The lyrics are just left wing crap, i hate it when bands go political - especially when it's lets all be happy and just get along idealism.
It doesn't stand up to The artist in the ambulance, or even beggars.
| |
I'm not liking this post-grungey sound tbh. What happened to their Radioheadesque aesthetics? Now that's the kind of Thrice I want to hear. Whatever, maybe I shouldn't make assumptions too soon. I'm sure this album will turn out just fine.
| |
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
| |
*tucks Gyromania in bed* always put Gyro to sleep
| |
but guys this band is soooooo boring. at least from vheissu onward. some good songs here and there but dustin always sounds the same and their music has grown so generic
| |
While Thrice is arguably one of my favourite bands, this track doesn't do much for me...excited to hear the album nontheless
| |
I liked the grunge vibes but nothing else really.
| |
"Been listening to illusion and identity since i was 16 buddy. get off your high horse. you're probably right that identity crisis is their punkiest material. Maybe i misspoke in saying ever. Just because you said something incredibly stupid doesn't mean the people who call you out on it are on a "high horse."
| |
fuck off user
| |
HYPED
| |
god i hate the internet
| |
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage...
| |
Sounds very much like a post grunge radio tune. Kind of surprised
| |
Go listen to Björk and fuck everything else.
| |

lol dumbass
| |
this sounds like 2004 alt rock radio
| |
I think the real news is that Thursday is back
| |
song is ok, no more, no less
| |
"I think the real news is that Thursday is back"
Indeed. im excited out of my mind.
| |
new thursday would be welcomes
| |
new thursday would be welcomed
| |
Wait what Thursday is back?!?!?!?! Omg omg omg omg omg
| |
single sounds like a slightly above average radio rock song
| |
This site is so bad about judging an entire album of a critically acclaimed band based on one single that was posted in YouTube bitrate quality
| |
Yeah well we're only human. Except someguest, he's just a bitch
| |
Son of a someguest the Thursday reunion is just one show. Thanks for ruining a nikkas hopes and wet dreams
| |
yo dude people blame it on youtube quality all the time but i guarantee the mix will sound weird on the cd too unless they remix it (doubt it)
| |
completely unimpressed with this tbh
hopefully the rest of the album is better
| |
1) I legitimately like this song, though it's not great.
2) It's a single.
3) Thrice's singles are almost always some of their worst songs (All That's Left, Image of the Invisible, The Weight, Promises).
4) Therefore I am not worried about this album.
| |
all that's left is awesome wth
| |
Thrice's singles are almost always some of their worst songs [2]
| |
Thrice's singles are almost always some of their worst songs (All That's Left, Image of the Invisible, The Weight, Promises).
i will fight you irl
| |
I'm on Ignimbrite's side, The Weight and Promises are both great songs.
| |
i literally don't think i've ever heard anyone call The Weight one of their worst songs
| |
All That's Left rocks
| |
The Weight is one of Thrice's worst songs
| |
u wot m8
| |
im sorry brite but The Weight is pretty awful
| |
"i literally don't think i've ever heard anyone call The Weight one of their worst songs"
In my case, I don't consider it a negative to say any of their singles are always their worst, just that they are never to the standards the rest of the records set. I love all of their songs except for a few and I just happen to love their singles slightly less than I love everything else.
| |
how is The Weight awful
how is The Weight anything less than fantastic?
| |
This song will be so badass live with Dustin's high range vocals. Honestly just wish the drum parts and verses had a bit more bang but that's fine. It's a single. The rest of the album will probably be quite different
| |
the weight is pretty drawn out tbh
| |
Snippet of the new song sounds pretty interesting. Seems like they're going for a more accessible and energetic sound on this new record. Color me intrigued.
| |
new(er/est) song's lyrics still aren't the greatest but the rest of the songwriting is miles above this first single.
http://www.npr.org/sections/allsongs/2016/04/27/475764110/vikings-choice-thrice-black-honey
| |
Lyrics are actually pretty cool if you read them, the meaning is pretty poetic. Good song.
| |
I love Black Honey. Hell yeah
| |
