Taylor Swift breaks up with Spotify

2014-11-04 by beachdude | 51 Comments
Coinciding with the release of her latest album 1989, Taylor Swift has removed all
of her albums from streaming service Spotify. The service reacted by releasing a
tongue-in-cheek statement which reads in part:

"Taylor, we were both young when we first saw you, but now there’s more than 40
million of us who want you to stay, stay, stay. It’s a love story, baby, just say, Yes
".

The full statement can be read here:

It is the label. There was an article on Rolling Stone saying it's the label trying to boost their value before a sale of said label by pushing fans to buy the album instead of listening via Spotify.

I'm pretty sure a bunch of artists are gone from Spotify since today or so, not sure if it was her actual decision

At least they'll get something from the streaming services (at least with her draw).

You basically have either forced people to buy it, or just pirate it anyway, so why limit some form of return if it potentially will spurn people from the two extremes they just pushed anyone that wants the album into...

What other artists are gone that you've noticed?... And I agree that this is a dumb move.

Smart move on her end. It's the holiday season now, her popularity is higher then it's ever been before and people will be wanting to not only listen to her new record but her back catalog as well. Might as well nudge customers into buying your records instead of streaming them. My guess is Spotify will have T Swizzle's streaming rights again by January.

noticed this as well. fucking frustrating. I listened to DMX's second album (4.5) about a month ago and within a couple days after I had listened, it just vanished from the database. the same also goes for The Blueprint (4.5).

not sure why spotify is the lead concern of labels when more people arguably torrent music, and at least with spotify you have some revenue coming in.
