Keeping Up with Jeff Rosenstock 2014-09-30 by dimsim3478 | 15 Comments | Today, independent punk heavyweight Jeff Rosenstock is streaming "Hey Allison!" from his upcoming solo album, due out early next year on SideOneDummy Records. "Hey Allison!" will also be coming out as a 7" this season, backed by "I'm So Gross", which will be sold at his upcoming solo dates and the Antarctigo Vespucci tour in November. The new song has been played often as part of Rosenstock's live solo setlist this year, and an acoustic version was previously filmed for the YouTube channel Punks in Vegas in June.
Rosenstock announced during performances that his debut solo album is tentatively titled We Cool?. SideOneDummy have agreed that Rosenstock will be allowed to put out the new album for free on Quote Unquote, as his previous label Asian Man Records allowed him to do.
Despite putting Bomb the Music Industry!--his band since 2006--to rest with their final album in 2011 and a string of farewell shows earlier this year, Rosenstock's involvements in numerous projects since the dissolution of BtMI! have upheld his reputation as a prolific musical figure:- he released two full-length solo "mixtapes"
- he released an album with Chris Farren of Fake Problems for their new project Antarctigo Vespucci
- he flew to Australia to produce The Smith Street Band's new album (due out on Halloween)
- he wrote, recorded, produced, and toured through the US, Japan and Korea for Asian Man Records owner Mike Park's The Bruce Lee Band, who put out a comeback EP earlier this year as well as a full-length album earlier this month
- he never stops touring. Like, ever.
Rosenstock also hosts a podcast discussing the TV show Lost with bandmate Chris Farren called Back to the Island, and continues to release free music under his label Quote Unquote Records, the legendary "First Donation Based Label Ever". In addition to his upcoming studio album, Rosenstock is expected to release a live recording of Bomb the Music Industry!'s final show by the end of the year. When last we heard about the record on July 4th, Rosenstock had this to say:
"We are still working on the mix for the last show. We played very very very very loud and that meant the live mix was a little harder than we anticipated, and we couldn't get it finished before I started working on the "Jeff Rosenstock" record and traveled to Australia to work on The Smith Street Band record."
Finally, the Bomb the Music Industry! documentary, entitled Never Get Tired, exceeded its $25,000 crowd-funding goal for post-production which is currently in progress. Director Sara Crow gave the following details:
Our hope is to have the film finished by the end of the year, meet 2015 spring film festival deadlines, and have it ready for you to behold by this time [July] next year!
Having been involved in punk rock since the age of twelve back in 1995 when he formed his first band The Arrogant Sons of Bitches, Rosenstock has built up the prestige of a musical legend from his DIY ethics, prolific output, dedication, international networking, and personality. Regardless, the thirty-two year old still has a whole lot more to add to his twenty year punk rock chronicle.
