Nails Announce New Album/Label

2014-06-03 by Dante Alighieri | 82 Comments
In a bit of a surprise move that's making some waves, Southern California grinders Nails
have announced their recent signing with Nuclear Blast Entertainment and moving on from
Southern Lord Records.

Naturally, coinciding with this news is additional news that the group is currently in the
process of writing their third, as-of-yet untitled full-length album.

The official statement is a tad heavy on the melodrama and hyperbole, but suffice it to say
that a new album from this four piece should be coming "sometime in the first quarter of
2015". Their sophomore album Abandon All Life was released to much acclaim in 2013.

Personally, I really, really hope they don't fuck this band up like they have with so many others.

I love how the words "popular" and "hipster" are basically interchangable. I'm going to start using this unilaterally now.

Opeth = Hipster Prog.
Obliteration = Hipster Death
Death Grips = Hipster Rap

The possibilities are endless!

depends on which bands you listen to

pv's got the hxc and grind spirit and blueprints, but some have sludge, electronic, other elements

nails have their hardcore/pv song structures, but on AAL that was some damn heavy gxc production that those not familiar with pv wouldn't know it

Nails seem to have a lot of sludge-y influence as well, espeically on AAL

fuck it you can't narrow Nails down to one genre really but I wouldn't call them "hipster-grind" or whatever because I'd hesitate to call them grind, or powerviolence, or anything else really

everything is sludged out when things slow down

it could've been doomed out instead, there's nothing grimey on what they played

isn't sludge like doom with hardcore anyway?

what do you mean there's nothing grimey?

Relinquished
June 7th 2014

hardcore vox, chainsaw-like production, pv structures, pv/gxc playing.. but I don't hear sludge in
there. just slowed-down passages but not to the extremes that sludge would usually go down to.

PurpleDino
June 7th 2014

fair enough, I guess I'd always just describe those slowed down riffs as sludgey, especially with the low tuning
