Upcoming Shiina Ringo Album 2014-05-07 by Necrotica | 20 Comments | Japanese singer-songwriter and musician Shiina Ringo (otherwise known as Ringo Sheena) will
be releasing a self-cover album on May 27 named Gyakuyunyū: Kōwankyoku, consisting of
reworked songs she originally wrote for other artists. The tunes will be arranged by a
multitude of different Japanese music veterans, including bassist Takeshi Ueda and composer
Otomo Yoshihide. The album is a celebration of the 15th anniversary of Ringo's acclaimed
debut album Muzai Moratorium.
Also, in other news, Ringo's upcoming single (title not announced yet) will be used as the
theme song for NHK's FIFA World Cup 2014 next week on May 12. The song will then be released
on June 11.
According to www.jpopasia.com, she had this to say:
"Thank you very much for choosing me. This time the World Cup will be held in Brazil, a
place I've longed to visit. I spent my childhood in Japan's Brazil, Shimizu. Will my groove
be used for the first time here? What will we make of the excitement on the night before the
match? Let's make it a song, I will do my best".

| | | Kawaii
| | | Sounds brilliant, as usual.
| | | It's out. Get on it, people! It's awesome so far.
| | | I would get it, but I'm out of money.
| | | It's out!
Sounds different than her usual.(Maybe because tokyo jihen)
It took 2-3 times hearing to get used to.
| | | eep!
| | | I don't think it sounding different has anything to do with Tokyo Jihen. A lot of these songs were
written well before the inception of Tokyo Jihen, and the majority of them were produced by different
people this time around. The songs were written for other artists and not for Ringo, which is another
reason they may not sound like a typical Ringo song.
SG came out during her stint with Tokyo Jihen, too. That's one of her best albums IMO.
All that said, I'm really enjoying this release.
