Dude. Speak Now isn't even remotely close to even the worst of Red's discography. Michael Barnes is far more talented of a vocalist and lyricist than Taylor, and vocals and lyrics are basically Taylor's only calling card.

So, this is the only tracklist I can find:

Run and Escape (new)
Release the Panic
Damage
As You Go
Glass House
Hold Me Now
So Far Away

In my opinion, the last four songs didn't even need to be "recalibrated". They needed to have recalibrated Perfect Life, Die for You, and Same Disease. Along with Release the Panic and Damage, those were the actual bad songs that needed work.

I can see why some people don't like it but I it find it to be probably one of the best songs on the album. Honestly, I think Release the Panic is fine as it is without strings. Also, I find RTP to be one of the most underrated albums I've ever listened to.

Toon I liked RTP, just nowhere near as much as Red's other albums and I REALLY miss the strings.

Toondude10
April 5th 2014
6821 Comments

When I review this, I will DEFINITELY rant on the strings. Not the fact that they're not there, but the fact that people keep complaining about it as if that's the only thing in the world that matters. You have to admit, they HAD to do hat at some point.

ASnideReturns
April 5th 2014
5992 Comments

Honestly dude no, the best parts about Red's sound are Michael's vocals / lyrics and the strings. You take one out of the equation and... it's just not the same.
Sure the riffs all that are pretty damn cool but it just feels... empty.

Toondude10
April 5th 2014
6821 Comments

Here's the thing:
Bands use strings and orchestrations all the time. The only thing with Red is that they make it a part of their style and it worked so well with I&I. However, in UWHF it showed that the strings worked against them causing the overall sound to be rather bland. Sure that album was pretty good but still, they were buried beneath (no pun intended) the strings throughout most of the album.

It's not a problem to be different and RTP I thought ha shown signs of improvement as they decided to no longer rely on the strings and they did pretty damn well in doing so. Is RTP a masterpiece, hell no. I can name several albums better than that. It's just that people are constantly complaining like infants about it and it's starting to piss me off. At least back up your arguments well people. (I have heard some pretty valid arguments I won't deny that)

ASnideReturns
April 5th 2014
5992 Comments

But see that's the thing, this re-release shows that Red didn't really want to remove the strings. It was mostly the work of Howard Benson (terrible fucking producer.) They tried to be themselves but were held back by the producer, I'm not complaining about the lack of strings themselves, I'm talking about how Red's signature sound was completely held down by a shit producer.

Toondude10
April 5th 2014
6821 Comments

If that's the case then why is he the producer for this one again?

ASnideReturns
April 5th 2014
5992 Comments

He's not, Rob Graves the old producer is on this as well.

Toondude10
April 5th 2014
6821 Comments

Then why are they both here? Both of them are pretty bad producers for the most part. Even if I&I was great.

ASnideReturns
April 5th 2014
5992 Comments

Rob Graves is honestly fantastic, I think he was brought on just for the string production since the strings added in by Howard (on songs like If We Only) were pretty underwhelming.

Toondude10
April 5th 2014

The strings were kinda weird in If We Only, but they were very nice in Glass House, I will admit that.
