Digging: Maybeshewill - Fair Youth
fingers crossed for a good old school SA album
They always have beautiful artwork, but I haven't been able to get into any of their stuff since I was big into Unia.
Digging: Damascus - When Last We Met
Kind of outgrew them a while ago, but I'm still pretty excited for this nonetheless.
Digging: OG Maco - Breathe
awesome name, wasted on their music
Sonata Arctica haven't put out anything praiseworthy in a few years now, but in their prime, they were a legit solid rock band. They were cheesy, but not nearly as bad as many of the other bands in melodic power metal. They never really did the whole 'dungeons and dragons rock' thing and mostly always stuck to more mature lyrical content. Sonata Arctica's rock was never about being as fast or as heavy as possible, but usually more focused on being fun and catchy, but they are still a musically proficient rock band. Tony Kakko is a fun and charismatic vocalist, and its impossible not to love him meander his way through the English language with that thick Finnish accent. All that being said.. hope this is a return to older style Sonata Arctica. Would love to hear another album in the vein of Silence, Ecliptica, or Winterheart's Guild.
Just release Reckoning Night again
Digging: DIR EN GREY - Arche
idk if this will be good or bad because old sonata is mostly worse than middle-new sonata but that old logo is kind of exciting.
These guys need to stop pretending that they're better off playing something that isn't riffs on riffs on riffs of fast-paced melodic power metal and limit themselves to one or two (three if the tracklist is longer) ballad-type songs per album. Silence is probably my favourite from them and a return to that form would be splendid.
Thank god, their last album was so disappointing. Go back to a Unia-esque sound with touches of Silence and Ecliptica
The last album wore out way too fast, so I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for a fun album. At least they brought back the wolves, that's a good start.
Hoping power metal's prodigals have learned their lessons. Their trend since Reckoning Night culminated in that embarrassing self-styled cowboy shitload, so hopefully that's a wakeup call.
funny is that they can still do it if they want
the bonus track from their last album was the best song as well, ironically
digging the raven on the cover as well
My hopes aren't high, band has been bland since unia ( which was their last remarkable album) but I hope that they come back with legit stuff instead of lame tracks like shitload of money and more. By the way, is curious that the power metal haters don't know a shit about the genre, most of them are scum who only have heard through the fire and flames in guitar hero.
Wtf, that bonus track is better than the entire actual album o.o
It will either be a glorious return to form or a Death Magnetic-style disappointment that wants to join the big boy albums but just doesn't have enough punch. At least they realized that not everyone liked they cowboy stuff.
Also, isn't this the most stereotypical Sonata Arctica album cover ever? Just look at the wolf, raven, snow, old logo, etc. The only thing that's missing is the bearded man from Takatalvi.
Old logo was last used on Reckoning Night. That at least gives me a little hope that they really are stepping backwards rather doing the progressive thing with Unia,TDoG, Stones
"...meaning more power metal-style elements and wolves in many of the songs in one form or another, it was clear we need a wolf on the cover. An abandoned wolf. A pariah. Or pariah's child, actually."
*Proceeds to laugh uncontrollably*
The clip at the end of the trailer they just posted is pretty convincing
Their Last good album was unia, it has some progressive elements which were cool and songs like the
harvest and caleb were badass jams, the other 2 were uninspired as hell, instrumentation was worse
than ever, and some songs were dull as hell. Calling those albums progressive power metal is an insult
to ayreon, symphony x and angra. Old sonata rules hard, new sonata is bland
