Trvth/Twort Collaboration
2013-12-17 by Brendan Schroer | 101 Comments
Multi-genre, one-man music project Trvth has released a new album entitled Essential Void, which is a collaboration with photographer Jamie Twort. The music featured on the album was inspired by a photographic series by Twort, which is based around the theme of memories and looks at the varying clarity of the mental image formed from one’s long-term memory. The project's aim is to blur the lines between audio and visual representation by using ambient soundscapes to reflect the atmosphere and mood seen in the aforementioned photo series. Each track has an accompanying photo which can be seen by clicking on the individual track names on the album's Bandcamp page, where the album can be downloaded for free. The album's official date of release is this Friday, December 20th.

http://trvth.bandcamp.com/album/essential-void

The track listing is as follows:

1. Innocence

2. Child Alive

3. Mist and Clarity

4. Hope

5. Just Around the Corner

6. Everlasting

Thanks for this, Brendan.

As detailed in the paragraph I've written on the Bandcamp page my involvement in this project is purely conceptual. I helped out with a few compositional ideas but Captain is responsible for playing and recording all of the music.

It's ambient. There's no vocals I'm afraid which I know will probably be disappointing to you. For ambient I'd say it's fairly accessible so you might like it.

This shit is really good so far, very inventive. The photography definitely defines the music well and elevates the experience for sure. The music is awesome too, and I like how Michael's getting more and more experimental musically

So far my initial thoughts: I really like some of the sounds in there, especially the violin-sounding thing in the second song (sorry but I'm absolutely horrible at identifying instruments), they create a really nice atmosphere. My only criticism is that some of the songs might be a bit too long and I have trouble paying attention all the way through, although that might be a reflection more on me than on you guys. All round, good work so far!

There's a sweet Echoes-y vibe around 10-11 minutes in the third track that I'm really enjoying, wonder if that was intentional?

JamieTwort
Contributing Reviewer
December 17th 2013

Most of the music is electronic so no violin but I think I know what you mean. Some of the songs are quite lengthy but personally I feel that's sometimes necessary with this kind of music as a shorter piece wouldn't allow the listener to immerse themselves in the atmosphere properly. Plus I've always thought that one of the main things with ambient music is to allow the listener to contemplate their own thoughts as if taking a journey through their own mind, which often requires lengthier pieces in order to be effective. Glad you're enjoying it overall so far.

Hopefully Captain will be here soon to talk more about the musical side of things. He'll be able to answer your question about the third track.

Ah ok, yeah I see what you mean. I'd like to give some real constructive criticism to help you guys out, but considering I know nothing about the genre there's nothing I can say really, just good job. It was an ambitious project you guys did but I think you've pulled it off well.

But as far as professionalism goes, JT, I think using Sputnik music as the main outlet to advertise isn't really going to lead to professional exposure. Also, considering we all know each other here, we're all going to dig/check out the record regardless of what the thread looks like.

Are there not other sources where you can promote this, because bar the users, I can't see anyone coming to sputnik for music news - especially for independent artists that they would not be exposed to.

Hello everyone. I took to the time to intricately read through every single comment and I have to say thank you to everyone for the kind words. Some of it made me laugh too. I hope everyone enjoys the music and I hope it makes an impression on your hearts as it did mine because yes, I do listen to my own music as much as I do others, otherwise I wouldn't be creating it.

Captain said he wanted this article (and the resulting thread) to be as professional as possible, I guess that's out the window.

I was only concerned about the article being professional because it's never my intention to come off as being pretentious or haughty so I'm glad that its well written and thank you to JT and Necro for putting everything together. I love the character in the thread and I have no concerns over the content of it.

@ JT - A special thanks to you my friend. You've always inspired me even before I ever saw your artwork. You mannerisms and your overall character is always uplifting and you've definitely put up with different sides of me but we've always remained friends and I know we would be in real life too. I want this music to be JT's as much as it is mine which in my I believe that it is because the expressions contained herein are a reflection of my interpretation of JT's ideas and everything he has expressed to me. I feel privileged to collaborate with and support such a great person. Thank you for helping me to explore and see sides of life I haven't seen before, JT.

@ Rowan - To answer your question, you mentioned around the 10-11 min. mark on the third track you heard some echo vibes that you enjoyed. That's simply the master volume levels bouncing off the amplitude of your speakers. It can be heard at varying moments throughout the album and I actually considered removing it at one point but after receiving feedback from JT I decided to keep and now I'm glad that I did, thanks to your feedback as well.

@ Rowan - Oh haha. Yeah that makes more sense. I actually listened to Echoes after you posted that and yes I definitely hear the similarities. I definitely didn't have that song in mind when I was writing Mist and Clarity but I find that quite cool that it naturally came out so similar to one of admired bands. Nice recollection.

@ Wizard - yes sir, in fact I do. I think it's interesting to consider, as a person creates music per say, what factors in their subconscious affects their output. I can say that my active conscious is almost always blank with a fresh clean slate from outside influences. But that isn't to say that my subconscious isn't always revved up fired and ready to go. Regardless, I'm glad you enjoyed the synths mate and thank you for listening.
