New PxDx Bassist
2013-10-24 by Chuck Haller | 24 Comments

For the first time since the bands inception in 1997, Pig Destoyer have added a bassist to their repertoire. The new bassist, John Jarvis is also the cousin of drummer, Adam Jarvis.

Guitarist Scott Hull had this to say about his new bandmate:

"Having John come into the band adds the ability to expand musically into new territories that we haven’t explored yet. For many years we haven’t had a bass player or second guitarist because, as JR once put it; “mo people, mo problems”. But a band is a living organism. Change is good. New blood. New energy. We’ve had great experiences adding Blake before Phantom Limb and Adam before Book Burner. Both additions to the family have had huge positive impacts on the band. We’d thought about adding a bassist for some time, but it always seemed like it would be more of a hassle than anything else. John has come in like a soldier and has mastered everything we’ve thrown his way. We’re excited for you guys to hear how the older material sounds with an expanded low end and can’t wait to get to work on new material".

If it ends up being another set of ears to bounce ideas off of and contribute to the writing process then it could end up being a positive development for the band as they need a bit of a creativity injection after Book Burner.

It will make no difference in their sound. It's funny how Scott Hull thinks it will "add the ability to expand musically into new territories that they haven’t explored yet" but come on dude. You fucking program drums on a computer and this will not change a bloody thing in your sound. Are you all of a sudden gonna turn all prog on us?

None of you have obviously heard a great bass player. A solid bass player means night and day difference.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand it's always been like "well they're grind, but they don't have a bassist so that somehow makes them different" but on the other hand it won't impact shit. If they get worse, they would've always gotten worse. If they get better...yay bass?

I've always enjoyed PD without a bass player and never thought in a million years that they'd do this. But I love the instrument, it can do alot for the music but this is kinda weird. Now I just feel like every Pig Destroyer album needs bass for this to happen

You obviously don't listen to metal or grind for that matter.

i honestly always loved the way terrifyer sounded on its own, but hey I guess if they ever played somewhere outside of the 6 shows a year they do, and came to somewhere where i lived, and I could go see them, it might be a good thing? they should fire blake tho. really. what's that guy doing that a studio guy couldn't and just play the tracks live?
