Lamb of God Malaysia Ban

2013-09-04 by anarchistfish | 45 Comments
In the run up to their September 28th concert in Kuala Lumpur, American heavy metal band Lamb of God have been barred from performing in Malaysia after the Communications and Multimedia Ministry found that the band’s performances “were found to infringe on religious sensitivities and cultural values of Malaysian society.”

The Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia originally raised concerns last month, citing the band’s song titles and lyrics and pointing out that some of the band’s music even contained verses from the Quran.

The concert promoters decided to cancel the show anyway following death threats sent to the band after the issue gained widespread public attention.

It is with utmost regret that we announce the cancellation of the Rockaway showcase that was to feature the Grammy nominee band, Lamb of God on September 28 in Kuala Lumpur. This difficult decision was made after thorough deliberation by us at Livescape and taking into account the objections raised by various groups as well as life threats made by certain irresponsible individuals towards the band members themselves.

The band themselves have posted a response on their Facebook page following the decision.

As widely reported, Lamb of God’s concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia scheduled for September 28th has been cancelled by the government who refused to issue a permit for the show even though the concert had been on sale and had sold over 1500 tickets.

It is very evident (and a bit frustrating) that the groups, parties and powers that have taken the most offense to our music and lyrics, have themselves only made a passing glance at the content and meanings of those songs. We would invite anyone offended by our music to engage in a discussion regarding the true motivations behind our work, especially before publicly slandering us based on assumptions and shallow misinterpretation.

We sincerely apologize to our amazing fans in Malaysia for the cancellation. Many thanks to all who have spoken out in support of us through this.

We will still be playing the shows scheduled in New Zealand, Australia, and Thailand. - Mark

Apparently they have no problem with Cannibal Corpse though. Whenever it comes to religion in lyrics, everyone becomes paranoid.

Ultimately it affects a lot of the band's fans who don't care for Islamic values

I guess a lot of people here are forgetting that not every country in the world has freedom of speech. It is stupid that some countries act this way but Lamb of God is not the first nor the last band to be banned from a country for "offensive lyrics".

If LoG are banned from Malaysia for the above mentioned reasons then i see no problem with The Department of Islamic Development giving the ok to numerous black metal bands with satanic lyrics etc.etc playing gigs in their country.
