In response to a surge of breakup rumours surfacing after Texas progressive rock band Fair to Midland failed to renew their domain name, update fans on their social media accounts or generally show any public appearances, Brett Stowers (the band's former drummer) posted this clarification of current events on his personal Facebook page in May, stating that fans shouldn't "hold their breath" for any activity from a band that is, as it seems, falling apart and in a significant amount of debt:
"Lately, a lot of people have been asking me if I know anything about the current situation with Fair To Midland. I'm by no means an official source of info, but i'll tell you what I know because I feel like the fans deserve to know what's up.
First off, even before I was no longer in the band, FTM was in quite a bit of debt. This, I'm certain, only got worse as time went on. Second, as far as I know, FTM currently have no label or official management. Third, without getting too much into anyone's personal life, I can say at least a couple members have expressed to me their frustration about lack of communication by certain other members of the band. Finally, the current members of FTM are spread out all over the country at this point. I would imagine that would make getting together for rehearsals/writing prohibitively expensive. (Plane rides, gas, accommodations, etc... you get the picture. Hell, it was hard enough when we were all in the relatively small area of Dallas/Commerce/Sulphur Springs.)
Read into the fact that nobody bothered to renew the band's domain name what you will.
(which actually kind of upsets me. there was a lot of FTM history on those forums)
With all that said, like most of you, I sincerely hope that the guys are able to turn things around. Even though I was a member for 10+ years, I was a fan first. I'll be cheering alongside you if a new tour/album/whatever is announced, but i'm not holding my breath."
No further updates have surfaced about the band since.
well that sucks. Fables from a Mayfly was a great album
That post was released a while ago, but it still stings nonetheless. Hoping they get their act together soon.
It would be deeply saddening if this was the last we heard from them. Their last album was absolutely fantastic, as was the one before.
I think this band is massively overrated, but I would still like to hear the official word on future plans.
Digging: It Bites - Once Around The World
Digging: Their / They're / There - Analog Weekend
damn. hopefully they will come back in a few years
Digging: Tullycraft - Lost in Light Rotation
Well, time for me to buy that domain name and post unflattering picture of the members until they get their shit together.
read this about several weeks ago.
i hope this band will stay
Damnnn, really? I was wondering about them since I haven't heard anything for awhile. I know the singer just started a family so I figured that held up some of the time. I surely hope they figure out something because they are really good. Saw them live about 2 years ago and they we're awesome.
Damn, Alternative Metal can't take losing them.
This would be a pretty big shame, especially the financial reasons here
Old news but it shows that people care.
I wouldn't mind donating to the band, if it meant touring and records in the future.
Digging: Rishloo - Eidolon
Yeah. They should do a kickstarter or whatever.
Worst news I've heard all day. I hope they can work things out, Arrows & Anchors was fantastic.
Digging: Self Defense Family - You Are Beneath Me
would be smart to go out on two excellent albums
Digging: Magnolia Electric Co - Trials and Errors
I'm not the fan I once was, but these guys were the coolest thing for awhile.
I'm in the audience on the live DVD.
Such a bummer. I hope they can climb out of this! I wonder if they had some label issues for them to get into significant debt. That totally blows.
Digging: Two Gallants - Two Gallants
Damn! And I just started getting into this band.
Digging: Gentle Giant - Three Friends
That sucks. I loved their most recent album.
aww Sowing what the hell? When did you become an Emeritus? Your reviews are always the best.
check his most recent list
Sorry Adam, it was by my own choice. I just don't have the time to write anymore, and when I do, I don't feel as passionately about it.
Don't worry though, I'll still review albums here and there.
Yeah man, just saw the thread. Good luck with everything though! Sounds like you've got a lot of awesome things ahead.
Need a knife?
this sucks, cause the band have a classic radio record up their sleeve
Man that sucks.
Some of Darroh's solo stuff. Thing song is the best.. of the 3 (and 1 cover). I really hope he gets around to putting a solo album out, I could imagine it being really good
Digging: Glass Empire - Cognitive Dissonance
Sucks, been getting into these guys massively lately.
Terrible news. The band is really good.
I never understood why these guys never blew up. They have a wealth of songs that could definitely get
Very sad indeed. Fables is one of my very favorite albums of all time. Hate to see this happen to these guys.
never heard this band, might check now
Digging: Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
give em a shot man
I NEED NEW INFO! In light of this news, I've been on a FtM binge that has just been getting me more and more depressed with every listen. ='(
they're done man
Digging: The Evpatoria Report - Maar
Well, if this is the end then they went out a with a fucking bang. The Greener Grass is probably their best song.
Digging: The Mire - Glass Cathedrals
agreed, greener grass is probably the best song they have ever made. their last two albums were too damn solid
Such a shame.
