Sucks because the only person I know who likes Dir En Grey as much as me will be halfway across the country when they tour, leaving me with nobody to see them with :

Damn! super stoked to catch this. I really hope I can scrounge up some cash for the LA show. I just dropped a good amount of money on two NIN tickets for the same month

Fuck, always about 13hrs away from me. Would love to see them live, not sure if I'll be able to make it though.

Closest one for me is Toronto, which is maybe 4 hours away. Found someone to go with, but I need a passport/enhanced license :

I want to see them live but I get the impression that their shows outside of Japan are 3/4 greasy weeaboos and the audience is deader than a dream theater show

I imagine that a band like Maximum The Hormone or The Gazette would be greasy weeaboos but not so much Dir En Grey

What are greasy weeaboos? haha

It's pretty lame to even use that term in reference to the band, or MTH for that matter.

Greasy weeaboos are those people who are obsessed with anime and think that they know everything about Japan because they like naruto. They only grow patchy facial hair or a neckbeard, have greasy black hair, and are scrawny or fat.

Maximum the Hormone are great, but their music was in Death Note, giving them a huge weeaboo fanbase. Sad, really.

edit: beaten
and I don't actually know if the shows are totally populated by weaboos, but their established weeaboo fanbase and very dull
crowd videos on youtube makes me hesitant. if someone has contradictory experiences pls share because I dig this band

Yeah a few Youtube vids don't show much emotion, still would love to go and get some merch and the like.

Regardless of crowd hype/type, it'll be a killer show. I hope Kyo's voice is alright though, I'm pretty sure he just went through some surgery again recently.

My friend has seen them I think three times, twice in America, once in Japan. I can ask her what the crowds were like at both

definitely this too. It'd be killer to pick up some of the stuff they bring with them.

So I guess their shows are full of fangirls and people who are stuck on their older visual kei stuff.
Direct quote, copy and pasted from the chat with my friend: "If I didn't love Dir en grey as much as I
did I wouldn't be going to their shows just because of the people that go."

Kind of a bummer. Still, they're a fantastic band, probably my top favorite band. I'd love to see
them and get a tour date shirt.

I really wish I could experience the crowds in the live at Budokan videos

Even in America? That's interesting. Yeah, I'm totally still getting tickets regardless, but I hope the crowd is better then your friend described. They just don't tour a lot here, so I'm definitely hoping to catch this one.

I've seen Dir En Grey four times now, and I can confirm that the type of people that do go are Hot Topic anime nerds. I feel embarrassed to be there sometimes, honestly. But, fuck it, they're awesome and I don't really care who is around me when I go to a concert anyway.

Yeah, I couldn't give a shit about who's in the crowd as long as they aren't so obnoxious that they take away from the show itself. I've been wanting to see them for so long anyways. I just really hope that I can get some cash together to pick up the ticket. Does anybody know where the tickets are going on sale at? I don't think the band posted a link themselves about where to actually order them.

Really surprising, considering the type of music they play isn't exactly.... easy listening.

Yeah the weeaboo thing is spot-on. They put on a great show if you can ignore the screaming teenage girls

They're that bad with the weeaboos? DIR EN GREY might be my favorite band, and I've never had a chance to see them live and they'll be right nearby, but that's a huge turnoff...

Chicago is only like a 6 hour drive from Northern Ohio. I'm from NE Ohio but I'm living in the Los Angeles area right now. That's not too bad of a roadtrip! I'm hoping to catch Hollywood

I wonder what the hell they think about the fan-base here when it is just a bunch of cosplaying fangirls/boys, and if that affects why the hardly ever tour out here.

Great stage presence and show though.
