Bloc Party new EP + hiatus

British indie rockers Bloc Party have announced an EP of five tasty new jams written during their 2012 Four tour. The Nextwave Sessions is due for release in the UK on August 12. They have also released a music video for the first track from the EP, 'Ratchet', which can be viewed here:

Additionally, in a recent interview with Postmedia News, lead guitarist Russell Lissack confirmed that the band will be going back on indefinite hiatus following their headline show at Latitude Festival on July 19. 'Definitely after we finish the festivals in the summer we’ll be taking some time off. At least six months, maybe a year maybe two years, it’s hard to say. Once we start taking time off people start doing their own thing. So once people start doing things then you’ll start naturally extending how long we spend apart'. He cited intra-band tension as a factor behind taking another break so soon after reuniting for Four. 'My wife came on tour for two days and said, "Your life, I can’t handle it. It’s such a roller coaster of extreme highs and extreme lows". That’s quite representative of all the relationships in the band. Maybe we’ll play an amazing show and we’ll be on a real high and then the next day some minor thing will happen and everyone hates each other'.

Track listing for The Nextwave Sessions is as follows:

1. Ratchet

2. Obscene

3. French Exit

4. Montreal

5. Children of the Future

Another hiatus? I guess I could see it coming, seeing how inconsistent Four was. They probably had really conflicting ideas on what exactly to do.

Haha academy, very kind of you.

Song is ace and the video is creative as hell although slightly headache inducing at times. Sad that I won't be able to see them live for a while now...

Ratchet is by far the worst thing they ever did. They should've never came back.
