Storm Daughter free download
2013-06-27 by johnny of the Well | 26 Comments

The new Storm Daughter release (and first full-length album), entitled The Last Arboretum, is now available for free download/stream on bandcamp. The album incorporates a range of styles, from post rock to electronic music, but retains a distinct identity throughout.

In the words of the project's mastermind, Johnny King, "My debut full-length, at long last! The material here has been written over the last year and was mainly recorded through June. I've learnt a lot from making this, about songwriting, recording and how music fits into our lives, and it's been a real trip. However, nothing I say really means anything without someone to say it to; give it a listen and enjoy yourself"

Haha, only because I couldn't think of a better word, and because barely anyone else is directly involved in this so I am the (relative) mastermind

I thought this would be good until I found out it was just some Sputniker who thinks he's too cool for
school

Thanks man, I'd advise you to ignore the ratings for now as I'm not sure how sincere they are

it's a shame that the two worst "fuck everything" trolls showed up here in the same day

Agreed...I guess it's karma punishing me for releasing it on the same day as the genre reforms

the album is pretty cool btw, enjoyed it. some of the transitions and build-ups felt kinda awkward but overall good job dude. The Portal Has Closed might be my favorite off this

Haha thanks man, I've gotta agree with you on the transition point; I wish I'd had more time to mix it properly

the first about 40 seconds of They Never Knew What They Missed was easily my favorite moment of the album, i really loved that. after that the song got a bit meh imo

You know those 40 secs were originally going to be executed in virtually the same way as the Solaire intro, but then I changed it to see what the difference would be and kept it like that...I'm glad I did now

I remember when Snide made a post about his bands first single and people (myself included) were complaining because he shouldn't have made a news article about it and Snoxall went all apeshit and started attacking everyone. Ahhh good times, good times.

I wish I had the balls to make a news article about my release but I'm not sure if it is good self promotion or makes me seem full of myself. Either way, cheers man. I wrote you a little soundoff.

I saw man, I bumped it :] (btw, when you said Summer Skies was the highlight, did you mean the first half of that song, or the whole 7 mins?)
If you won't make an article, I'll do it for you

The second half, which I guess is technically the Winter Seas portion? I just fucking love how it tones down and there's just the lead and bass and then it all comes crashing in. The Portal Has Closed is my second favorite track

Ah, I thought it might be the second half; I was worried that the first half might seem a little cheesy (which is why I wrote the second half in the first place)
I just submitted a news feature for your album

The first half is good but the second half shines.
