Ray Manzarek, one of the most talented keyboardists in the history of rock music, passed away today in Rosenheim, Germany after a long battle with bile duct cancer at the age of 74.
In reflection of this tragic loss, fellow bandmate and guitarist Robby Krieger said he was "deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate." Later adding that he was thankful for having been able play alongside Manzarek for the last decade during The Doors' reunion tours. The mourning musician then ended by saying, "Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."

Rock music certainly lost one of its most celebrated musicians today, but his memory and the legend of The Doors will always continue to live on through the music.
I thought it would be nice if we all post links of our favourite songs by The Doors or from his other musical projects in his memory.
"Not To Touch The Earth"
Digging: Edan - Beauty and the Beat
Amazing man, RIP
can't give this enough R.I.P.'s damn
Fucking hell May! What made you a sadistic bitch against musicians.
"Riders On The Storm"
it's been a tough year. rip man, at least you can party with jim now.
Such a bummer, he was an amazing keyboard player and I loved The Doors. Didn't know he was suffering from cancer either so this was a terrible surprise, RIP Ray.
Riders On The Storm was the first song I remembered hearing as a child and I was completely mesmerized. I love it to this day so much for that reason because it's such an amazing song.
Digging: Sigur Ros - Ágætis Byrjun
Digging: The Dillinger Escape Plan - One of Us Is the Killer
bad day for rock music. RIP
Digging: Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
Cancer gets another one. Sad sad news. RIP
Digging: Jaga Jazzist - What We Must
I have always believed Manzarek was one of the most influential musicians of his time.
I saw an interview (from memory for a comedy show) he once did about a decade ago & an impromptu challenge gave him a toy mini-keyboard that you would give a 3 year old. You should have heard what Ray was able to get out of it.
Music just lost a very talented individual.
ugh this hits hard
RIP you keyboard wizard
RIP. I'm on my phone so hard to link but my favourites are The Crystal Ship, Light My Fire and The End. The organ is more dominant on that album than the guitar. I'll spin some of their stuff later.
Damn, I idolized this guy when I first started listening to music.
This really sucks..
You've already added The End so I'll leave it at that.
one of the best bassists of all time
Rip dude, gonna have to jam some doors when i get home from work.
Love basically everything they ever did, so would be hard pushed to pick a fave song. But right now id pick the changeling.
Digging: Their / They're / There - Analog Weekend
He was still going strong and touring at that age? Impressive. A truly talented and dedicated individual. RIP
"Break On Through (To The Other Side)"
Digging: Neat Beats - Cosmic Surgery
RIP Ray, hopefully you're back with Morrison now.
Digging: Morbid Angel - Domination
lots of RIP wishes from me.
Definitely the best and most memorable keyboard player to exist in rock music.
rip the end definitely.
produced the first four X albums.any news of his death should include this mention.
four of the best rock n roll albums of the last 40 years.
hear him play with the band here.
rip X producer
Only recently got into them, but they were amazing. RIP one hell of a keyboard player.
He was a true legend. RIP
Alabama Song, Roadhouse Blues, Break on Through, Riders on the Storm, Love Me Two Times, I'm no big doors fanatic or anything, but these songs are all so amazing. What a shame, at least he made it to a ripe age.
rip buddy, good luck breaking on through to the other side
Digging: Magnolia Electric Co - Trials and Errors
The pen is mightier than the sword - Jim Morrison RIP again, blue day
Spinning "Riders of The Storm".

Rock in Peace, favourite rock keyboardist by a mile
God damn. RIP so hard, Ray...
Digging: Cult of Luna - Vertikal
good playing here
a small tribute page at the X site. honestly this is as big a part of his musical life as the Doors were. anyone interested in Ray and his playing and music should not overlook this vital part of his career, helping usher in the new and bold as the old died out. including his own "old" band. no "punk sucks" classic rock bullshit from him. its all about the music
The Piano Bird - live
Such an amazing keyboardist. One of my favorite keyboardists along with Jon Lord and Richard Wright.
Now he can go and jam with his pal.
RIP Mr Manzarek.
The End, fav Doors song
this is lame
gonna go watch some old live videos of them in his memory
Digging: Waxahatchee - American Weekend
RIP so hard.
Been jamming Doors all day, definitely take their place as one of the best bands ever.
Digging: Zao - The Funeral of God
pretty weird and crazy to think the doors were only around
for 6 years considering all they accomplished and legendary
shit that went down. I mean think about how many bands that
easily surpass the lifespan now of days without importance
on top of it not even seeming like it's really that long of time.
Yeah, their time was short lived but had such an impact on American society and music at the time.
Check this interview of Jim Morrison, never seen someone so baked in my life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAsFFxTyHJA
"The Doors could've made many more albums if Jim hadn't been a fuck up and alcoholic. Even though they did manage to squeeze out some classics, he is still a "waste of talent" because his career ended way too early, which was his own fault. What a shame...."
sadly I rather agree with this comment
I think he kinda aimed to have a short but very chaotic and interesting life. But yeah, still waste of talent whatever way you look at it.
meh. either way, rip to both
Lets not make this about Jim, but he did say he was going to "get his kicks before the whole shithouse went up in flames." Man had a death wish, i'm just glad he had any musical career at all.
Regardless, Ray was the soul glue of The Doors, and he will be sorely missed. The Doors: Myths and Reality makes a fine listen on this occasion.
Favourite song: The End.
My all time favorite song
Sail far away on your crystal ship, until you reach the endless night
Mr. Mojo Risin' will be there and you'll meet thousands of girls, thousands of thrills
R.I.P Ray Manzarek
What a life-affirming person you are
Digging: Honour Crest - Spilled Ink
He was the musical backbone of The Doors. R.I.P.
Always loved the doors.
What the fuck. RIP Ray, you'll be missed man.
Digging: Omb - SwineSong
