I'm gonna go and cry the whole time while reminiscing about when I used this song to dull the pain of breaking up with my freshman-year girlfriend.

no, srsly

I find it hard to believe that this article isn't just one big typo and it is actually the Flaming Lips who will be playing "Race For The Prize" for 600 hours straight tomorrow and into the foreseeable future. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

wach its gonna be amazing, at first they are goign to play the song regular, and then people will start noticing the song is slowing down the more they play it.

And they are going to put some distortion into the song, and like, they are going to do SLOOOW DOOM versions of the song.

And they last time they play the song will be 34 minutes long.

We can't know yet what this entails, but, after the couple weeks America's had, one of its premiere rock bands performing one of their saddest (=truth?) tracks for an exhibit seems a timely and unique musical salve

I wonder if they're going to just do it continuously, or end the song, then count back in and start it over again? I feel bad for the drummer...

"Sorrow found me when I was young,
Sorrow waited, sorrow won

commences the song by The National, whose music and lyrics repeatedly conjure notions of romantic suffering and contemporary Weltschmerz—themes Kjartansson often uses in his own work employing references as wide-ranging as Ingmar Bergman, the German Romantics, and Elvis Presley. As in all of Kjartansson’s performances, the idea behind A Lot of Sorrow is devoid of irony, yet full of humor and emotion. It is another quest to find the comic in the tragic and vice versa."

cool

Anyone consider the fact that by the the second time or third time through, they might start to experiment with the song? They could end up playing various renditions of it or straight up turn it into a different song altogether by the end of the six hours.
Playing a song over and over again begs for an evolution. I bet the band will start to switch things up a fair amount.

if this is at an art exhibit, it most likely will be cycled through, i.e. groups come in and they play the song, then they eventually leave after it is over and they've looked at the work in-depth, then the cycle starts again. i like to think that they aren't literally just playing it over and over every second after it ends but rather in cycles. idk

6 hours is nothing, I could spend close to 9 hours practicing and rehearsing a new song with my band. Boring for people to watch maybe, but the band should find this pretty easy.
