2013-04-22 by TrstN01 | 32 Comments

Relient K's drummer Ethan Luck has officially announced his departure from the band. This comes just over a week after announcing that he and several other members would not be joining the band on their upcoming tour. No reason for the departure has been given, though he is now working as a guitar tech for Cold War Kids.

The official announcement can be read at the link below:

Dang. I preferred his style to the older drummer. I hope these guys don't die off, they're coming off of their most respectable record yet.

The other two who aren't on the tour are still in the band (at the moment), they just had personal conflicts with the tour or something like that.

They just released a new song, and it's actually really good (imo). There's an article about it waiting to get approved.

Wait is it? I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be poppy as shit so if you like that? IDK I loved FANSD's direction but

Have a feeling this albums gonna lean more toward five score more than anything.

Whoa, that was infectious and uplifting. Stylistically I prefer Five Score's musical direction, but this is a surprisingly great song in spite of the overly anthemic chorus.

Thanks for the link, man.

I'm excited, if this song is any indicator of the premise of the rest of the album, I know exactly how I'm going to review this.

What's with all these pop-punk bands losing their drummers recently?

Still have a soft spot for these guys as I grew up listening to them. New song is pretty good although I'm hoping pretty strongly that every song on the new record won't be stylistically super happy and huge sounding.

the title track doesn't seem "super happy and huge sounding" so there's that.

mm, I haven't heard the title track yet. That's good. I wasn't trying to insult that sound but when an entire album is full of it short of one song (ie: Five Scores) it can come out as a mess.

Yeah i liked five score. Just didn't seem as cohesive as FANSD

It definitely had its highlights but a majority of the songs were too jarringly optimistic for me to take seriously. FANSD was really good though and the recent karaoke stuff they've released hasn't been bad either.

Yeah i can dig it. There's no doubt they're talented. But he just seems to write better songs when he's in a dark place. lol. A lot of song writers are like that it seems.

New song is pretty good, definitely looking forward to the album. FANSD was great in my opinion. I've liked all their stuff since Two Lefts

"Trust me when I say, I wish this would have turned out differently. I tried my very best to not have things get to this point."

Now that sounds like band drama...
