Dug it at first, wearing off me with every listen.

Definitely sounds like Dillinger, but it lacks that punch of diversity they've utilised on past releases.

However, I'm liking the aggression they are going with here, reminds me of something straight off of Miss Machine x1000.

If I remember today's lecture at uni today, then according to J.S. Mill and Jeremy Bentham (the people behind Utilitarianism) "Something's good/better cos I like it" or "Something's bad/worse cos I don't like it" are perfectly justified claims.

I dunno I might be dumbing down way too much but Bentham was about quantitive stuff and saying stuff
which more people liked was clearly better and more deserving of state support or something. Basically
our lecturer showed us two songs (Ride of the Valkyries and Gangnam Style) and asked how many
preferred each and in defence one person said they preferred PSY (damn them to hell) cos they liked it
and the lecturer said that was spot on while others tried to over analyze it. I lost concentration
around this point though. Might've been from repeatedly banging my head against the table during
Gangnam Style.

You guys have some really interesting lectures, man. I'm jealous.

I know Bentham and Mill have much to do with moral/ethical utilitarianism, the idea that the action that helps/gives pleasure to the greatest number of people is the morally justified one, etc etc. I honestly don't know much about what else Bentham believed, though. He was very concerned about pleasure, so that may be where that type of comment ties in. If most students like a PSY song more, then I guess one could say it'd be "morally justifiable" to play that song over the other, because the amount of enjoyment overall would justify it. Of course, though, it sounds silly as all hell in that context. I'm not sure if it can be taken much further than that, although I haven't looked into the topics as much as I could have.

Song is great. Darker tone and enough anger to separate this from previous 2 releases, real test will be full album obviously.

Had to post to say respect to anyone who feels like dropping in Utilitarianism when analysing DEP, although my tuppence on the matter is that it was never intended for determining the morality of playing music and your lecturer is simply breaking the concept down in quite a cool way (I teach Utilitarianism too)

Although if we are playing, then Mill would have some interesting views as he distinguished between higher and lower order pleasures and I would be curious to see how he reacts to crazy time signatures. But he would probably dismiss it as base animalistic noise and crank out some Beethoven

"Band releases new song that has their characteristic sound
"Fans" complain how it sounds like their old stuff and is shit
Band releases´╗┐ new song that takes them in a different direction and explores their boundaries
"Fans" complain how it sounds nothing like their old stuff and is shit"

This is true of DEP, Mastodon, Dimmu Borgir, Between the Buried and Me and really any band that makes alterations to their sound over time.

As for the song, it is alright.

I'm just saying that all the music I listen to is of superior quality to this music.

Song was pretty cool. Think I'll appreciate it more when I hear it in the context of the album though.

lead singles are usually the crowd pleasers anyway. can't judge a whole album off this

just saying this band is hard to listen to, respect the talent, just too damn noisy.

Had never heard this band until now. Hate to say it, but massively disappointed. Nothing resembling a melody. Actually one of those bands where when your parents say, 'its just noise,' they're correct. Obviously there's a lot of talent and technicality, but its just too much noise.

If you think that's just noise you should hear some of the early SYL stuff.

Whats that thing? The one that gave us a clock thats always winding down? This is lacking that. I'll reserve judgment until I've heard the album but I don't want to get my hopes up. I've always felt like they've had the potential to top Miss Machine but they just always seem to fall short.
