Daft Punk sign to Columbia 2013-01-27 by gwynbleidd | 43 Replies | 2106 Views |
Influential DJ duo, Daft Punk, have officially signed on to Columbia Records, a decision
that was confirmed by a source to The Hollywood Reporter - "It's a Done Deal"
Not including their score work for the 2010 picture Tron: Legacy, all of Daft Punk's
previous efforts were released by Virgin Records, and, once again, excluding Tron,
the last offering by French DJs was 2005's Human After All, which received a largely
mixed reception upon release.
This lengthy hiatus from proper studio work, however, is expected to conclude this year,
with the release of a brand new album, due to release sometime in spring.
No furthers details about the album have been made.

That's weird, band image isn't showing.
EDIT: Nvm
But anyway, yay

human after all was eh but yeah cool

Dont get the hype with these guys really. One solid album and the others meh. Cool outfits though!

Duo hasn't been good in a while (althought the Tron soundtrack/remix album was fairly strong).
I see them getting worse.

It's all about the outfits dude. Nobody cares about the music.

They only have 3 albums so one solid album is enough
plus so catchy
|
| |
Curious to see whether they're still able to write interesting music, because Tron didn't do it for me.
|
| |
I thought it was one of the better scores of the year, but it wasn't really anything special, though Derezzed is fucking awesome while high

True, I DO want their helmet.
|
| |
Yeah, aside from Derezzed I thought it was pretty boring. I don't really listen to soundtracks otherwise, so I don't know about other scores from that year.
|
| |
The Tron soundtrack was good for the movie, but on its own its pretty dull.
|
| |
Like The Strokes, they started well..
|
| |
Honestly excited for the new album.

This band has more compilation albums than Full-Lengths. This is a fact.

"They only have 3 albums so one solid album is enough"
Not one solid album, one ridiculously good album...
|
| |
Now that I think about it I never heard Discovery in full, just the singles and a few odd songs
I should probably get to listening completely
|
| |
Curious if everyone saying "one solid album" is talking about Discovery, because Homework is better. Both rule though, and Alive 2007 is fucking great too. It really utilized some stuff on Human After All which was disappointing by itself. New stuff from these guys is good news, but I'm just excited to see them active again because I wanna see these dudes live.
|
| |
Better be a new album
|
| |
Homework > Discovery yep yep yep
Even the totally flawed and monotonous Human After All is a heck of a lot of fun, hoping for another classic

HAA was enjoyable, albeit flawed. The soundtrack was alright, I guess. Hopefully the new album will pull them out of their slump.

If they tour again (closer to home) I'd really like to go see them, interested in how their style will evolve with the new album.

Pretty interested in this. Discovery is one of my favorite albums so I wonder where they're gunna go with this one.
|
| |
I have no idea what to expect
|
| |
i think they're going to come back strong with this one, hopefully a tour will follow and daft punk
will rule the world once again
|
| |
I would love to get to see Daft Punk if they decide to tour this year.

Even if the album sucks, we will probably get a tour out of this. I'm okay with that.
|
| |
Please let it be something like Discovery
|
| |
I anticipate some degree of wobble bass
|
| |
it's that one band from tron. cool.

Discovery rules hard bitches.
|
| |
wow they must be whole different artists now
|
| |
they are an insanely awesome live act (even if they are just playing recorded sets)
just listen to alive 2007... probably my favorite thing they have released
|
| |
I cross my fingers for one or two more timeless anthems like "Da Funk", "Around the World" or "One More Time". Either way, it's gonna be amazing I am sure =)
Daft Punk 2013! Yes yes yes.
|
| |
Da Funk is unreal

"UK’s The Guardian is backing up THR, being even more specific, claiming the album will be out in May."
Am I the only one who didn't know that they have been rumored to have recorded with Panda Bear?!??!

... holy shit. I knew Panda was a big fan but... holy shit.
|

That would be a terrible collaboration

No way it has awesome potential
|

I'd be keen to hear it. That Pathu Du Prince/Panda Bear song rules
|
| |
Panda Bears or not I just want this duo back to form
|

Homework sucks compared to Discovery.
