New Wu-Tang album in the works
2013-01-25 by Smitty Werben Jager Manjensen | 54 Comments

Legendary hip hop group, Wu-Tang Clan, has announced that a new album is in process of being made, making this the first Wu-Tang release in six years, following up 2007's 8 Diagrams.

The announcement was made in a short text post in the band's facebook page, simply stating:
"Wu Tang Album is in the works. Hold on tight."

While no official word has been made yet about the release date of the album, Wu-Tang's de facto leader as well producer to both the group and many of the members' solo projects, RZA, commented on the possibility of the album and it's release few months prior to the announcement, saying:

"Well, what I can say about that Sway is next year, November 2013 – I’m going back from
1993 to 2013, that’s our 20-year anniversary, so I told the brothers we should definitely
come together and maybe do something to close the book. So we’ve been building about it.
If life permits and the energy is proper maybe next year on the same date or the same time
we put out
36 Chambers we’ll put out a final chapter of recorded music.

Is there actually any reason to think this will be good though? I mean the group's solo work has been on its hottest streak since they were in their prime, but their group work has been shoddy as hell since Wu-Tang forever, and even that was a huge step down from 36C. There's a ton of discord in the group and has been for awhile, especially with Rae (who's been the biggest star of the group as of late). RZA hasn't really made a star performance production-wise since like 1995. Over time it's been shown that some of the members (U-God, MK, and god forbid cappadonna shows up) just really aren't that talented. Some of the members who were good in the day (Meth and INS) haven't done anything worth shit in ages.

I do believe that if every member approached this seriously and gave it their all, it would rule. I just don't think they all will at this point. But shit I hope it's good, I'd hate to see the group as a whole go out on a bad note.

It's been 6 years since 8 diagrams. Things can change.

It's the 20th anniversary to 36 chambers. I'm sure they'll at least put some love into it.

honest to God it's funny how much amazing faith people put into a group with one godly release, surrounded by blah, that's 2 decades old. i mean.

nigga please wu has been knocking heads for 2 decades. Including the solo albums this group has more godly releases than any other musical act period.

This album was supposed to come out last year though, and the year before that too, so idk if it will really come to fruition the way rza says it's going to

Oh dude considering their solo shit as well the group has just been insanely good, and they're honestly my favorite act in hip-hop if you consider their work as a whole. But I think it's only reasonable to have doubts at this point. Their group career honestly hasn't been anything great with the exception of 36C.

Should have chopped Wu Tang Forever into 1 album instead of a double. Would have possibly been the greatest rap album of all time.
