oh damn rip
Sucks that that's how they're goin out. Kind of think it's time though.
that quote just reeks of autism
yeah don't care so much about no more new material but woulda loved to see em live
At least I got to see them live. And there'll always be Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus.
saw them in 2002
well they both kinda suck
Digging: Dance Gavin Dance - Instant Gratification
"that quote just reeks of autism"
The fuck. I haven't listened to them since Goliath, but this genuinely sad news.
Just break up. It's over.
Digging: Blur - The Magic Whip
totally saw this coming
In before he joins Chiodos.
All I got from this was "I'm an egomaniac who only wants the best for the band but Omar is a meanie who doesn't want to do what I want to do so I'm quitting the band but thanks anyway guys"
How was this egotistical? Omar doesn't care about TMV anymore (their last album is testament to that) and Cedric wanted to tour behind it and bring the band back to snuff, but it never happened. They went out with a whimper, not a bang.
Kinda sucks, but their last album makes me glad they aren't making another one.

"Thank u 2 all VOLTA fans u deserved more especially after the way u rooted for us on this album."
thank u 2 OMAR
Digging: Prurient - Frozen Niagara Falls
last album sucked anyway this isnt awful news. just kinda bad
Fucking Omar goddamn
Honestly at this point TMV might as well never return, Cedric is irreplaceable.
I do wonder what's going on between Cedric and Omar since they've been friends for so long and it seems they're pulling apart. Hope everything goes well between them so they can work on something together again.
This sucks, TMV were such an awesome band. Deloused, Amputechture, and FTM are among my favorite albums.
Never got to see them after all this time. Would've been great for that tour to happen, even on this album we would've heard some old stuff for sure.
Yeah I'm bummed I never got to see them either. They were one of my top bands that I wanted to see live.
damn this sucks...
cedric wants to get ikey and theodore back! imagine how hard that would rule. and a full tour for Noc would've been great. fucccckk omar
I actually stopped liking this band after seeing them at Roo 2009. Awful show. Nauseating.
Digging: Speedy Ortiz - Foil Deer
Wait so did Omar and Cedric have a falling out/are they feuding? That would bum me out if so
Digging: Anton Webern - Passacaglia for Orchestra, Op. 1
oh and here's the first single from Omar's new band Bosnian Rainbows: www.nme.com/news/nme/68314
"My dream was to get us to the point were Jon Theodore and Ikey Owens came back but sadly it's over."
- This would have been great. I would have loved to hear a Frances/Amputechture part 2. Oh well, I guess. I loved this band too.
Theodore was by far my favorite drummer from this band. That would've ruled so much.
this fucking sucks
That song was okay for a mildly psychedelic pop rock-esque song, but Omar has been making a lot of bad moves with his music lately. It's frustrating to no end. I swear, Bosnian Rainbows better be fucking mind-blowing or I'll lose all hope in him.
lmao that bosnian rainbows track is awful
cedric wants to get ikey and theodore back! imagine how hard that would rule. and a full tour for Noc would've been great. fucccckk omar
at least we have Sparta? nah nobody gives a fuck about Sparta except me
Sounds like Omar's musical tyranny rustled Cedric's jimmies a little too much
"oh and here's the first single from Omar's new band Bosnian Rainbows: www.nme.com/news/nme/68314 "
Mediocre and boring.
Also someone put Illuvatar and Taxidermist on suicide watch
Good thing I never got into this band
Digging: Hop Along - Painted Shut
Disappointing as fuck but is needed
damnnnnn this sucks hard. never got to see em live. RIP
Digging: The Evens - The Evens
I am bummed as fuck. I never got to see them live.
rip, band had some great songs
Surprised nobody hasn't said this:
At the Drive-In reunion might be a reality for Cedric. Omar has always been a pretentious fuck, his endeavors will be interesting as well.
Digging: Clipping - CLPPNG
"Also someone put Illuvatar and Taxidermist on suicide watch"
title should read - mars volta breaks up
Saw them once and I'm still bummed as fuck.
Bosnian Rainbows is great though, and that track or the live stuff on Youtube don't do them justice. Go see them if you can
what the fuck.
Goddammit. I guess they've had a good run though. Still, this sucks bad.
@Skoj: Nope. Omar recently said that there won't be any albums coming from At the Drive-In.
So false hiatus essentially becomes the end of the band. A shame - I have some friends that liked them. I never did.
I even saw them live when they opened for the Chilipeppers. They kinda sucked.
Does Omar have licensing rights over the name At the Drive-In? I know Cedric has acoustic solo material coming out, but I can't help but think Cedric might consider the reunion if Ward and Co are cool with it. Remember, it was Cedric that first talked about the reunion.
yeah, they talked about it
then they reunited
where have you been
Well, Cedric has been preparing us for this day since Deloused.
Remember kids, slice up and not across!
shit. i never even saw them live
Dude, I'm hurt. Hiatus always gives you hope, but it's over? FUCK :-(
for real taxi
"I even saw them live when they opened for the Chilipeppers. They kinda sucked."
I saw this too, and thought THE SAME THING
Don't care much about this. Noct was great, but I don't need anything more from them, they've already made so much music
D: there are no words. i wish i got to see them live, the consensus here seems to be that they've been
terrible but it's still something i wish i got to have under my belt.
"How was this egotistical?"
Cedric is a renowned egomaniac, and a Scientologist, therefore it is also known that he is nuts.
let's get some new atdi
oh wait that won't happen because omar's in that band too
PLEASE point me to the proof that cedric's a scientologist
oh for fuck's sake. omar is such a bitch. he's releasing 50 record per year, he didn't need another band.
Digging: Blur - The Magic Whip
IDK when I saw these dudes live they fuckin killed it.
Digging: Turnover - Peripheral Vision
PLEASE point me to the proof that cedric's a scientologist
volta was way past their prime and cedric is such a douche. he's a brilliant and talented musician but he's out of his fuckin mind. idk how omar has put up with him for all these years
^Cedric a douche?
I think you're confusing them, Cedric has always been an awesome dude. Out of his mind but nice guy.
Omar, on the other hand, has been turning into an asshole lately. He always had a bit of a cunty side
but he was generally awesome, lately he's been a bit of a dick.
his ego is enormous and it makes it impossible for musicians to work with him. why do you think they go through members like nobody's business? that's why thomas pridgen left, cuz he couldn't deal with cedric. i saw them live the first time pridgen played and cedric got pissed that he messed up part of a song and grabbed one of his cymbals and just threw it straight at the dudes kit, fucking everything up. he's a crazy perfectionist and he can't co-exist with that many people. the only reason he and omar lasted so long together was because they're both so fucking brilliant they were just on the same wave-length creativly

From what I read that was Cedric fucking up, not because he's a douche. He fucks up pretty regularly
with all the crazy shit he does on stage, at one point he even hit one of the band members with the
microphone(I think the bassist?).
And Cedric and Omar have known each other since they were like 14 or 15, they even lived in the same place
when younger I think, it has nothing to do with "same wave-length of creativity", they've been
friends(they often even say basically brothers) since forever.
Damn, never got to see them live. Missed them in 2009. Feel so stupid now. Well, hopefully Cedric will make something new that'll he'll take on tour. His voice is incredible, so seeing him live would possibly do the trick.
Digging: Knapsack - Day Three Of My New Life
Unless either of them puts out something REALLY GOOD (like Frances good) in the next few years, sooner or later Cedric and Omar will probably do something together again.
Digging: Mac McCaughan - Non-Believers
Punk Prog? WTF title is that?
Kinda gutted, kinda glad.
Sucks. Never got to see them live.
I won't lie, I saw them back in 2007 and they were fucking amazing.
Omar is a bit of a douche the more I look into this.
Cedric being a scientologist was just a rumour.
Meh, this does not bode well for my chances of seeing At The Drive-In live, and that's really all i care about at this point
Digging: OG Maco and Zaytoven - OGZAY
ahh man so many feels
As almost-happy as I am to see this happen, definitely gonna be a TMV day.
And ugh after this I pray ATDI doesn't reunite.
Digging: Young Thug - Barter 6
No wonder their fucking lyrics don't make sense
No wonder their fucking lyrics don't make sense
People excited itt because I'm sure you get forced to listen to new TMV albums all the fucking time.
Digging: Mew - -
You know hes gonna comeback come on
only listened to TMV for the 1st time about a month ago, their 1st album is actually good, shame
A couple of albums late.
A couple of albums late (2)
Bedlam should have been their last.
Digging: Twilight - III: Beneath Trident's Tomb
Saw them live on the Chili Peppers tour as well, they fucking sucked. I only got tickets to see TMV and they were awful, just an hour of doodling and wankery. Hardly played any album material.
Come on atdi...
Deloused is a classic could have stopped after that honestly
aww did Cedric and Omar finally break up? i hope they split the possessions
Digging: My Alias - Light
Never could get into this band but sucks.
Bummer. Never got to see 'em live.
Oh well. They released plenty of great music.
they have maybe 10 minutes of music that isn't awful and that was from over a decade ago
Awesome band, too bad TMV won't be feeding our happiest nightmares any more.
Digging: Evil Killer - Lethal Assault
I wonder what the deeper reasons are tho.
I'm guessing Cedric and Omar aren't having a good time considering that they almost seem to be feuding
"Come on atdi..."
Not gonna happen dude, Omar is a douche now and just hates ATD-I for no reason, while Cedric wants to
do acoustic shit.
Gwynbleidd, I don't know anybody that thought they'd reunite for any reason before Coachella was announced. Even if Omar doesn't go into it, the possibility exists. Greater now that they aren't doing TMV.
ATD-I without Omar would be awful.
Lots of people seem to be getting Omar and Cedric confused...And I think of a lot of their music was hit or miss, at least with the mid-end albums...Some songs were definitely over the top and sounded pretty similar and the later albums Cedric's voice was getting painfully difficult to handle...I miss their De Loused and Frances the Mute style
New At The Drive-In after a reunion would likely be terrible regardless. Don't taint the name and just leave it alone IMO.
Agreed with Eagles. I do not want a new AtD-I album. Like, I'll check it out and hope that it would be fucking amazing, but idk. Just no, ok.
Also someone put Illuvatar and Taxidermist on suicide watch
Haha, just saw this. Good one
yeah, I just want to see them live. they're too old and energy-less now to really make a new proper ATDI album.
actually, they might even lack the energy to put on a proper ATDI live show now...
Nah Cedric still has energy, not as much obviously but enough
The problem was Omar didn't do anything, he pretty much just stood there and played music, no energy
From the live videos that I've seen...yeah. They're definitely not as energetic now and the fact that Cedric 'sings' instead of shouting, yelling, screaming, etc. Is just kind of irritating. All that aside, I'd still see them lol.
this is so sad
basically Cedric got way better live while Omar got worse
Damn man I saw their last show.
talkin about the mars volta not atdi woops
They're getting on a bit now like, guys. Not as much hate in them anymore. haha
Never even properly listened to them, and I'm still sad
Digging: Envy - All the Footprints You've Ever Left...
rip, awesome band
I don't mind. The Mars Volta haven't done it for me in awhile.
My favorite band... Bummer doesn't even begin to describe this.
Oh, and I hate to break it to ya, Omar, but Bosnian Rainbows is gonna FAAAAAIL.
Digging: Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras
As many have said on here, they should have broke up after Bedlam. I liked Noc, but they've been an a decline since album 4.
They never really made anything amazing since FTM in my opinion but I dig a lot of later stuff, Goliath(the song) is one of the best Volta songs ever
Finally. It had to happen, it should've happened before, and I'm sad...but it had to happen.
sparta is working on a new cd.
best news in a while
im sure you're happy to hear the new rush cover band
ATDI now TMV? This sucks.
Ommar GF is somekind of Yoko I think.
Damn I just saw this, this sucks hard RIP Volta.
this was a damn shame yeah
