Opeth 2013 tour 2013-01-10 by Mabbitt | 94 Replies | 4294 Views |
The ever-evolving Swedish band Opeth will return to North America in support of their most recent studio album, Heritage. Released September 20, 2011, it garnered rave reviews from everyone from Rolling Stone who called the album "a career record that reimagines prog as actual rock 'n' roll" to Pitchfork saying "a pretty, well thought out collection” to NPR who called it “equally vast, thoughtful and heavy.”

Definitely buying a ticket. This will be my second time seeing Opeth. I caught them in 2011, they put on a really great show. I hope this one will have a more varied setlist, I love Heritage, but I really want to hear their older stuff.

what a surprise a good band doesn't play here and the world keeps turning
|
| |
after Katatonia's latest album, this is an absolute must-see show
|
| |
At least they're playing heavy songs again, the last tour was boring as shit without growls
Pretty sure Katatonia is gonna rule. Jealous that this isn't coming to Australia...
|
| |
If they promised not to play anything off their Camel humping last album, I would go see them again.

athens instead of atlanta?
people in athens only like fuckin shitty indie music, why would opeth be so retarded to do this

might have to make a trip out to LA to visit my friend/see Opeth even though i'll be making the trip in march to see meshuggah. they are so good live i can't resist. i want to see them play blackwater park / harlequin forest. i noticed they have been playing those two recently.
|
| |
Holy hell, there's actually an Indy date for this!
Will be there. I read somewhere that they will be revisiting their heavy material this time around, I like Heritage and all
but it's not the same live experience if they're not playing their bangers.

No Montreal.. Fuck it.. I'm not driving to Quebec to see them
|

No Texas dates. What a bunch of fags

Scoot they played Deliverance last year stop complaining
|
| |
I saw them on their heritage tour and they did play a lot from heritage but they still fit in quite a bit of their heavy songs as well. Great band to see live
|
| |
Guelph!! Oh yeahhhh, saw them last April in Toronto they were awesome, they played Grand Conjuration and Deliverance... which was a very pleasant surprise. And Stven Wilson's solo band is playing with them on the April 28th show
|
| |
Can't believe they're coming to Halifax. I'm going for sure.
|
| |
same tour as last year. i love katatonia but dont need to see the same show, but maybe just to see Opeth again
|
| |
So, Tyr, they played one good song last year?
|
| |
I'm kinda surprised they got booked here in Indianapolis. I don't listen to Opeth, but I feel like I should go see them just because.
|
| |
Steven Wilson is touring too, and they're playing together on april 28th...a few days after each of
them comes through here
Wish I could see that :
|
| |
I work in Guelph ON so I will be going

^ This so much.
Already seen two shows in support of Heritage. I want different shit.
|
| |
Steve Wilson will be at 4-28 show.
|
| |
I saw them on the first Heritage tour in '11. I'm gonna see them again but I would like to see them play some of the older, better stuff.
|
| |
these guys are playing kind of close to me cool

I was honestly not impressed seeing Opeth last year (or was it late 2011?). First time seeing them live and they only stuck with songs from their latest CD. Makes sense since they are touring to support the new material but meh, it just got boring after awhile. It's a shame Akerfeldt doesn't want to play any of the old stuff anymore. They did go into some Bloodbath (since Katatonia was there) which was a nice way to end it but still wanted a lot more.
|
| |
two chances to go see them. two chances I shall decline.

i honestly wasnt impressed with makemebad35 channel last year, only stuck with humour that is comparable in intelligence and amusement to a hardy round of peek-a-boo. Makes sense though because the channel is shit without the other guy.
|
| |
is that really makemebad35?
|
| |
I should have just waited for this tour rather than gone last year seeing as its the same lineup and they are actually going to ply heavy material now not just all their soft/prog stuff. Oh well.

A show in Des Moines?? This is fucking amazing.
|

broooooooklyn
|

I saw them 4 years ago. One of the best show I've assisted.
|
| |
For those worried about the setlist, their last couple of shows looked like this:
1- Devil's Orchard
2- Ghost of Perdition
3- White Cluster
4- Hope Leaves
5- Deliverance
6- Hessian Peel
7- Haxprocess
8- Reverie/ Harlequin forest
9- Blackwater Park
|
| |
I happen to like Peek-a-Boo, Propose. But thanks for your honesty.
|

3- White Cluster
4- Hope Leaves
5- Deliverance

9- Blackwater Park
Something I would've loved to see a lot more.
|
| |
so are you really makemebad35?
|
| |
Let's ask him stuff only the real makemebad35 would know.
Anyways, I haven't seen em yet, so I want to, but I kind of want to see Steven Wilson more...and I doubt i'll be able to afford both.
decisions...
|
| |
see Opeth lol
|
| |
so are you really makemebad35?
Yes. I needed to find a new music site so sputnik became my friend.
|
| |
Going to the Guelph show!

Looks like I'm going to Tulsa, dope.
|

going to the agoura hills show....anyone going / know anything about that venue? flying to LA to visit a friend / see this show. no idea where agoura hills even is
|
| |
agoura hills is a very rich area
|
| |
i was in a Trivium music video that was filmed at a mansion in agoura hills
|
| |
ever-evolving
since when
|
| |
^ what a funny thing to put in an article
|
| |
lol since always. ingnorant ass
|
| |
ignorant ass? opeth has always been
DANG DETH MEHTUL N GROWLZZZ
ooh soff acoustic n beuatiful sngin so pretty so progressive
the only "change" i can think of is with heritage
if you think i'm wrong, you're lying to yourself
|
| |
oh dammit i forgot solos those are pretty evolutionary
|
| |
listen to orchid....then listen to mayh....then listen to bwp....then listen to damnation...then watershed...then heritage. i'm not saying they're like changing a shitload but i'd say they are definitely "ever-evolving". definitely more than some bands. plus, theres a difference between being "ever-evolving" and "evolutionary". ignorant ass
|
| |
wow m/
|
| |
hey, i've listened to all of those and they sound very very similar except for damnation which is
ooh soff acoustic n beuatiful sngin so pretty so progressive
like half of every album before it!
very very slight deviations from the norm don't mean they're "evolving"
get the stick out of your ass and stop getting butthurt that i don't enjoy your favorite band as much as you do
|
| |
damnation rulez so hard m/
|
| |
ooh soff acoustic n beuatiful sngin so pretty so progressive
^ i can see you're not a fan, but this statement is evidence that not only are you not a fan, but you are also mad that there are people that give them so much praise.
get the stick out of your ass and stop getting butthurt that i don't enjoy your favorite band as much as you do
i'm not upset, i was just trying to set the record straight. i even conceded that they haven't evolved THAT much, but to say that they are not "ever-evolving" is just wrong. the rantings and ravings of a butthurt anti-fan. whats the point of coming itt (which is quite old btw) just to say something like that?
|
| |
i can see you're not a fan, but this statement is evidence that not only are you not a fan, but you are also mad that there are people that give them so much praise.
what a horribly dumb statement
i've been known to jam ghost reveries and watershed quite often! your silly assumptions make you look like an ass. i'm not opeth's biggest fan because, quite frankly, a lot of their work is extremely similar and bores me, but if you enjoy how mikael's dick tastes, then by all means keep fellating good sir!
|
| |
wow they are going to be in Nebraska, will for sure go
|
| |
wait $200 for a ticket? welp nevermind
EDIT: oh thank god they are only 25 in advance at my venue
|
| |
i've been known to jam ghost reveries and watershed quite often! your silly assumptions make you look like an ass.
well we're all prone to make assumptions, just like you suggested that opeth was my favorite band. they are up there but i wouldn't say favorite. for instance, i thought heritage licked balls.
i'm not opeth's biggest fan because, quite frankly, a lot of their work is extremely similar and bores me
again, i don't agree with that statement, and I don't think most would either, but oh well. sure they have a "formula" if you will, but they still have experimented with different sounds/styles/production.
