Deafheaven Prepare to Record 2012-12-11 by zaruyache | 38 Replies | 1125 Views |
Deafheaven have confirmed studio time at Atomic Garden with producer Jack Shirley (who also worked on Roads to Judah) from January 21st through January 26th to record their second full-length album, Sunbather.
Vocalist George Clarke mentioned of the new Deafheaven tracks: "While the new material is more developed, we've strayed from what was previously a more melancholic approach. The black metal aspect to our music is prevalent in the new material, but I don't think it's necessarily the focus this time around." Lead guitarist Kerry McCoy continued, "There are a lot of harsh, dark vibes on Sunbather, but don't be surprised at how lush and rock-driven, even pop-driven certain aspects will be." Sunbather is set to see the light of day in late Spring of 2013 via Deathwish Inc. with touring and festival appearances to be announced soon.

I think it'll be awesome.

They made Roads to Judah, which was great. It would be natural for them to follow up with another good album. They're too young a band to run out of ideas or get lazy.
I'm excited.

sounds awesome

Sounds interesting. I loved their cover of Cody. So, I'll definitely look into this when it drops.

Fuck yes, although the dude's description is simultaneously interesting and worrying. I trust them, though. They have yet to disappoint.
|
| |
I remember them saying that they wrote a 17 minute song.
|
| |
Roads to Judah was superb, so I'm not worried.

"the new material is more developed"
I've been taking this as meaning that there would be more structure to their tracks, as opposed to just blasts, blasts, and more blasts. :-P So I'm assuming there will just be more influence on the shoegaze side of the group. With that 17-minute song they wrote a year ago it feels like they might have just decided to write longer songs and put more diversity into each movement, like a lot of other USBM groups. Definitely not awful news.

It's as if you guys make it like their debut was amazing or something. These guys dropping a turd wouldn't be a surprise.

they're probably talking about even more shoegaze influence, which is cool with me.
|
| |
The whole shoegaze/ bm combo was boring years ago unless you've really never listened to the genre.
|
| |
guys i don't think wiz likes this band
|
| |
Wiz only likes bands if they sound like Neurosis, though, so it's no surprise.
|
| |
He should like this band by default.
|
| |
You clearly don't know Wiz very well.
