I've never understood why some people just dump on others for their taste in metal, or call something utter trash and think their opinion is the only one that matters. Not saying that happened here, but I see it quite frequently.
I think we should be more banded together and respect eachothers taste in hard rock/metal, after all, metalheads are the minority im sure, as most I know at least listen to mostly rap/techno/dubstep etc. If I meet someone for the first time, we end up discussing music and they happen to like metal, but listen to alot of stuff i dont particularily enjoy, I dont dump on him. Everyone has their own taste and should be respected!
|
| |
I could understand making Nightmare, but c'mon.
I'm not even a fan of the band, but if they're going to make music they should do it without the Avenged Sevenfold name, especially considering that The Rev took such a big part in writing before his death.
|
| |
lol at suggesting they change their name.
|
| |
> "help him understand where they came from"
> "the band which now calls him family"
the prominence of the "family" thing is mildly creepy, and their fans do the same thing. like I get that you all feel the togetherness, but...yeah. having seen their behind-the-scenes DVD (required viewing with my ex) they all seem somewhat out of touch with reality.
still, Gates has chops on the guitar, and they at least try to sound different than the masses (with mixed results). band has seen better days though.
|
| |
"the prominence of the "family" thing is mildly creepy"
how so? the four have known each other since high school.
they consider themselves not just members but brothers.
they just want to make sure he has dedication and loyalty.

If by Classic Metal they mean lots of memorable riffs per song ala 'City of Evil' I'm totally down. If not, its been easier to ignore them now that they've become bro-y hard rock.
|
| |
"the prominence of the "family" thing is mildly creepy"
I don't really see how this is creepy, no matter what band it is. After being on the road together for a few years, I would imagine they'd be pretty tight.

coe was a pretty straight forward metal record so it could be awesome.
|
| |
I don't have anything against the band calling themselves a family. it's the way that the fanbase treats them, how getting a deathbat tattoo is like being brought into a cult ("family").
or maybe it's just that I was creeped out by my ex and I associate that with the band. probably the last one. there's a chance this will be good -- nightmare had some quality moments, after all.
|
| |
the fanbase has evolved tremendously as they've changed over the years.
unfortunately, not for the better. after wtf they lost a lot of tolerable people.
in place they gained the hard rock idiots you see at like disturbed shows lol.
I just enjoy the music and don't really give a shit about all of that nonsense.
|
| |
^ well said.
|
| |
just watch their dvd called all excess. it was released when the rev was still
alive. it's a pretty awesome documentary from then till up to 2007. it'll give
you a whole new light on the band and you might even grow to respect them.
they're certainly a group that's worked very hard for all of their success imo.
|
| |
that's the one I was mixed on. I respect that they worked from guys working two jobs in long beach to where they are, and that Synyster actually knows what he's doing and tries to keep ahead of the curve. Jimmy was also an excellent musician. but there were some parts, like adopting their stage names (and how they came up with them -- Johnny Christ to piss people off? =\) that I was turned off by. I mean I guess I can't be too critical of their immature moments (my favorite band calls their van the Fart Box) since they definitely got most things right to be where they are.

we'll I've seen mastodon 3 times and a7x 5 times. mastodon was only good
once and a7x has never failed to give album quality performances every time.
|

that's a ton of cash you must have shelled out, a7x tickets are usually three digits to get near the stage these days.
|

nah. there's only been one show of theirs I've been to when it was seated by
sections in a super huge arena and that was only 40 bucks. It was awesome

So by "classic record", do they mean a metal record with classic rock influences like City of Evil? Or do they mean "classic metal" as in some kind of NWOBHM-type thing like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest?
or did they just mean "classic" as in "fucking amazing that will be remembered throughout centuries"?
Either way, I think this will be good so long as the record doesn't consist of 10 Carry On-type songs

there are plenty of bands throughout musical history who have worn makeup
