I don't think "Dear John" is inherently immature and nor do I think it pretends Swift is guilt-free. Her writing style makes her feel like an innocent girl but if you actually hear her talk you know she's not playing off that persona, it's just the way she writes music. "Dear John" is more angry than anything else, it's a really vulnerable song to write because you know you're opening yourself up to [this kind of] criticism when you write it. And you don't know what happens behind closed doors - just because someone has a terrible "reputation" doesn't mean you can't fall for the act when you see it first-hand, and naivety isn't exactly an abhorrent quality for a person to have.

Knott- if it was anyone else I would agree with that, but almost all of Taylor's songs play off of that same conceptual victim-like stance of naivety though. Also with the target that Taylor's music is aimed at, I really don't think that she has to worry about criticism in that department because that's not what her audience is focused on. Despite this, I haven't seen any interview with Taylor so I can't judge how she talks about such things.
