New Animal Collective 9/3
2012-05-14 by Adam Downer STAFF | 100 Comments

Start brainstorming your essays on the importance of "Centipede HZ" to the music world now, AnCo fans; just after teasing the world with their recently released "Honeycomb/Gotham" single, Animal Collective have announced that their new record, the mysteriously titled Centipede HZ, will be released September 3rd off Domino Records. It'll be their first record with Deakin since 2007's Strawberry Jam. The tracklist is as follows, but over at myanimalhome.net, you can see the creepy teaser the label's been distributing which lays it out in a much more artistic way.

'Moonjock'
'Today's Supernatural'
'Rosie Oh'
'Applesauce'
'Wide Eyed'
'Father Time'
'New Town Burnout'
'Monkey Riches'
'Mercury Man'
'Pulleys'
'Amanita'

"I know AnCo probably create music while high or something, but our society has become so god damn

yeah mayne today's society is garbage I was born in the wrong generation I wish I was born in the
60s/70s when no one was doing any substances!!111

also no one implied music-listening was dependent on substances, but they certainly increase the
enjoyment of the experience/can make you notice things you haven't before/look at it from a
different light. I know it's hard to hear what people are saying when they're so far away because
you're so high up on your pedestal but I promise people aren't saying they need anything to listen
to music.

but yeah our society is too dependent on high-bitrate mp3 files and good earphones, too. it's
PATHETIC!!

oh and please don't take this as something I'm doing to try and spark a "sober vs. whatever" argument so I'd rather not have an extra thousand comments of "420 bong high legalize it bro Ron Paul!!" and "DRUGS ARE FOR IDIOTS HAHAHA JUST TRYING TO COPE AND CAN'T HANDLE AND BLAHBLAH MY VIRGINITY" in here.

gabethepiratesquid

Anthracks

I have a lot of confidence and people mistake that as a "superiority complex." I think you're just projecting your own insecurities when you view me that way; since that idea came from you and not me.

But yes, I do usually view people who use substances as being weaker than those who do not. Doesn't mean I think I'm personally superior to everyone. Furthermore, all humans are motivated by asserting dominance, so singling out people for having "superiority complexes" is kind of just stating the obvious for any given human.

"I think you're just projecting your own insecurities when you view me that way"
Hahaha yeah it must be your confidence that makes people think that.

"But yes, I do usually view people who use substances as being weaker than those who do not."

I mean if that's your opinion I'm not going to stop you from thinking it, and I know a great number of obnoxious, burnout, dependent people who use drugs just to cope, but making really stupid assumptions when someone notes, "Hey x music sound pretty good high" with, "Hahaha so dependent on drugs it's pathetic heuheujakhdajhafsa why can't you be amazing like me hohohoho" is...well, stupid.

gabethepiratesquid
May 15th 2012

"Furthermore, all humans are motivated by asserting dominance"

I think there's a line somewhere between alpha male and smug douche that most functioning people can see.

Anthracks
May 15th 2012

You're the one name-calling and I'm the "smug douche?" You might consider re-thinking your position.

gabethepiratesquid
May 15th 2012

I wasn't calling you a smug douche, I was saying that the opposite side of the "assertive and being an alpha male" spectrum is the "haha I'm so superior to you because of some stupid thing let me put in the effort to tell you my opinion and why I'm the best at every possible moment" which most people would consider a "smug douche"

I notice that all of your posts never actually address any of my points or refer back to your original (kinda dumb) post, but they're all just picking something in my comment to criticize that doesn't even have to do with the original point.

but anyway, I'm not going to argue this anymore because I'm not going to win a prize for doing this, you're not going to ever be convinced that you might have possibly made a misinformed statement, and anyone who might think you might have a problem with feeling superior is because it's THEIR problem, they just can't handle how much CONFIDENCE you have.

peace, have a good night. (or whatever it is wherever you live)

Anthracks
May 15th 2012

What's the point in discussing the drugs thing? You're the one who said you don't want to start a big debate. I said my opinion and I am not parting with it. I have nothing to defend, and I have nothing to pick apart in your "argument." You have your opinion, I have mine, and I have no intentions of changing your mind.

Furthermore, I do not believe "alpha male" is on the opposite spectrum as "smug douche." These are usually not exclusive.

gabethepiratesquid
May 15th 2012

I know I said I wouldn't reply but laksjdfasjd I wasn't trying to argue over "Substances vs. Not doing whatever", honestly I don't give a shit about that but the original point is how responding to "Animal Collective can sound good high" with, "It's pathetic how our society is so dependent on drugs." is really just silly and doesn't even really correspond to the original statement.

"I enjoy this"
"Haha, oh wow look how dependent you are on that"
"O...okay?"

"Furthermore, I do not believe "alpha male" is on the opposite spectrum as "smug douche." These are usually not exclusive."
well I didn't mean like literal polar opposites, the polar opposite would probably be like the passive-aggressive socially awkward guy who complains, "WHY DO GIRLS ONLY LIKE ASSHOLES?" but I meant on the "stating your opinion" scale.

Anthracks

Well saying, "our society has become so god damn substance-dependent it's pitiful." to a comment
saying has enjoyed something while high kinda seems like an overly-serious response to most observers
but yeah you're right I'm getting too into this over some internet comments (no sarcasm), later I'm
gonna chill/ACTUALLY step out on this now and get some sleep.

This thread was HIGHLY entertaining for many reasons. First of all, if you don't like this band, what point are you going to make by bitching about it?
Second of all, making an AC album hierarchy is a little silly, each one has a different place and purpose, though obviously everyone might have a different favorite (Strawberry Jam is mine).
Third, I read somewhere that they record sober. Don't know if that means anything within the drugs are stupid argument, but there you go.
Fourth, and most importantly, I'm really fucking excited for this album. I'm reasonably worried about being let down, but still. Can't wait.
