New Rebecca Black Video
2012-05-08 by Statrick Pickles | 128 Replies | 4831 Views

Back by popular viral demand, California's very own Rebecca Black has released a new video for her single 'Sing It' via E! News Online. Originally shocking the internet-dwelling masses with her 2011 hit song 'Friday', a track that, thanks to neon pinny wearing / red solo cup wielding bro swarms and a particularly warm spring season, temporarily transformed college campuses across the country into Rebecca Black singalong hotspots.

'Sing It' comes from what is potentially a collection of songs that might someday be released by Black in a form that resembles the modern day "music album," though banalities and trite sonic accoutrements are expected to run rampant on said theorized release. The video for 'Sing It' features a florally-clad Black, swinging her hips, making noises with her mouth, and raising concerns for many over the unfortunate potential consequences of her 1997 birth date. You can see the video now over at E! Online below:

"friday was obviously terrible, but i never understood the outrage over it. not when stuff like
kesha exists."

You underestimate, I think, just how bad "Friday" is. The lyrics aren't just terrible, they're
insulting to her. I can't imagine that a 14-year-old girl with any reasonable amount of cognitive
thought could have written them. Everything from wondering which seat in a car to take, to giving
us a kindergarten lesson on the days of the week, to the INCREDIBAD use of ghetto dialect: "We, we,
we so excited! We so excited!"

Then there's the fact that Rebecca Black actually has a decent singing voice for a 14 year old
that's completely hidden behind the least tonally diverse auto-tune I've ever heard in a song.
Seriously, Lil' Wayne has more range in his songs than Rebecca Black does here.

And if it's not enough that it is, in my own and many, many other people's opinion, one of the worst
songs musically and lyrically ever written and sung in the history of pop music, there's also the
fact that people truly, actually, genuinely ENJOY it. And when people enjoy this song, which I
consider the slime at the bottom of the barrel, and when a song like this can make famous its
performer, what hope is there for the future of popular music? Music in general, even?

I mean, fuck Ke$ha, too, but it's "Friday's" fame that I believe will ultimately prove itself to be
popular music's "shark jump."

i agree that friday's lyrics were terribad, i just don't think that its any worse tha most pop music today. that shark jumped 5-10 years ago and it just keeps getting worse and worse. as it stands today, popular music is an absolutely disgusting cesspool of sluts, douchebags, stds and first grade reading levels. we've already reached a point where the music on the radio is completely and utterly worthless garbage. i haven't turned a radio on in at least 6 years or more, there's simply nothing of value.and if you don't think kesha (i'm just using her as an example but there are many more like her) is that bad, these are actual lyrics of hers.

"I don't really care where you live at
Just turn around, boy, let me hit that
Don't be a little bitch with your chit chat
Just show me where your dick's at"

"I wake up in the front yard
(We don't care)
Wine stain on the sofa
(We don't care)
I threw up in the closet
And I don't care
Cause we're young, and we're broke
Grab my can, from my coat
Cause the sun is coming up and oh my god I think I'm still drunk
Where's my coat?
Where?"

you literally can't get worse. this is quite simply rock bottom for popular music. so yeah, friday was horrible, but it was never any worse than the songs that were playing at the same time.

Dude, lose the angst and realize that there's no reason for radio music to have any deeper meaning. You fault the artists for not being intellectual, but they're getting money out of it (which is obviously why they're here) so they're winning regardless.

And to equate Friday to "all popular music at the time lol" is fucking ridiculous. There's stupid stuff on the radio, sure, but you reeaaaaally think it's on the same level?

if there is anything on the radio right now that you honestly think is significantly better then i'd like to see it. i realize they're just trying to make money, but it disgusts me when i see young girls singing along to those songs. they know full well their target demographic is impressionable teenagers, and i think its downright reprehensible that we as a culture have deemed this type of hyper-sexualized, drug-endorsing "songs" to brainwash the minds of the youth. just like kids who drink syrup because weezy did it. when you have that much fame i feel that there is a certain degree of responsibility that comes with that fame. these people have a platform where they could spread positive messages, but instead the message that they're sending to impressionable girls is "suck dick and do drugs if you want to not be a loser." its less about the music itself and more about the message that they send with that music. inb4 tl;dr and inb4 umadbro, this is serious issue to me.

I believe that music piracy is the main factor in the downfall of pop music. With dwindling sales most record labels are only signing the safest, poppiest, image driven stars these days. They've done a ton of research on music and know what makes money and what doesnt. Young girls are the most likely demographic to purchase music right now so thats why alot of pop music is geared towards them. All you have to do is look at Justin Bieber being the biggest star in the world for proof of this.

So while popular music (not even just "pop" music but popular music in general which includes rock and hip hop) has suffered greatly the last 10 years, the "underground" is booming. With the internet underground music is easier than ever to listen to. Just gotta find it. Its a shame that alot of people dont seem to dig past the top 40 though, which are mainly girls from my experience who just want to dance and have fun and dont really care appreciating music on a deeper level than that. Im talking college age girls too not just 12 year olds.

The average person does not take into account talent, intricacies, and nuances, partially because they don't play an instrument or know music theory and mostly because they don't care. That's why a lot of music is popular, it's simple and agreeable to a normal person. It helps to not look into it and go on a holier than thou streak (a la auberginedreams). Accept it for what it is and don't listen to it if you don't like it.
