Less than a year after his 2011 album Divergent Spectrum, heavy dubstep artist Bassnectar is back with his ninth studio album, Vava Voom. Vava Voom features collaborations with various artists ranging from Lupe Fiasco on the title track to previous collaborator ill.Gates. I suppose heavy dubstep could be a thing

The song with Lupe was terrible

How would heavy Dubstep not be a thing
| |
Heavy is definitely a word i would use to describe a lot of what I've heard from Bassnectar. I think in the article it's used more as a descriptive adjective than as an attempt at a new genre tag so no need to unleash the beast here Dev haha
| |
Yeah it's just an adjective so people know what they're getting into.
| |
lol pennywise tribute
| |
I always confuse Bassnectar for Basshunter and remember in 2008 when godawful cheesy trance was called techno.

This guy is a fruit
huh get it

This isn't terrible but he really just keeps getting worse with every release. Cozza Frenzy is one of my favorite electronic albums ever.
| |
I think it's really terrible but I've never really liked anything this guy did.
| |
this guy is kind of poopy but he was so much fun live. glowsticks and drugged-out hipsters everywhere.
| |
Yeah I've heard he's fun live and I'm sure he would be. I can't really force myself to sit down and listen to this kind of thing for a whole album though.
| |
well yeah this isn't "sit down and listen to" music at all.
| |
lupe fans in chi are flipping their shit over this...
i wish he got his sack back, his lyrics sucked ass
| |
This man made the best remix of NIN's Closer ever, so he is excused from poor albums from here on out.
| |
bassnectar isnt very good, i hear he has a bangin live show though
| |
Perhaps the new album makes his live show change for the better, as most people can't stand to see it twice.
I enjoy select remixes by him, nothing more.

Bassnectar is incredible live, but i did see him at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, one of the best venues in the world, so that probably helped him out.
| |
Most of the people I know who have seen him more than once all said that it was the same, albeit great, show; I'd like some innovation.
| |
Yeah seeing brostep live can be fun as fuck but if the DJs don't at least mix in other stuff it gets so monotonous.
| |
Seems like everyone in this thread never heard of Bassnectar before he started making dubstep
| |
^^^rofl
| |
^Cozza Frenzy wasn't a dubstep album at all, just very bass heavy, and a lot of his most popular tracks are from that. Mesmerizing the Ultra and Underground Communication are awesome though also, but yeah not as well known.
| |
Cozza Frenzy is for the most part, a dubstep album
| |
Well, agree to disagree I guess. The megabass remix and church of the century are the only tracks on there that sound like dubstep to me though.

seeing him live on 4/20. happy to see good feedback. i should probably listen to something by him but eh
| |
gay. dubstep is trash. musical diarrhea.

He's been around since at least 2001.

oh thnx man idk what i was thinking
| |
You'd have to be pretty deaf to think that Cozza Frenzy wasn't a full blown dubstep album
| |
this isn't bad but fuck lupe wtf are you doing
making this chicagoan upset with shit rhymes and shit.
| |
yeah Cozza Frenzy is almost all dubstep. I think it's his strongest album, and the rest of his material is mostly crap. As for his pre-dubstep phase, his sound was just boring
| |
Nah, Mesmerizing The Ultra and Freakbeat For The Beatfreaks are solid breaks albums
| |
I really dig Cozza Frenzy but not really enough for me to check this out.
| |
gay. dubstep is trash. musical diarrhea.
I thought this site has progressed past the point where some dipshit 15 year old would hear a couple of tracks on youtube and assume that he had the entire genre pegged

clever cover up.

Don't really see what I'm covering up. Why don't you tell me Andcas?
| |
I forget you take everything seriously so never mind.

What happened? Couldn't find a youtube link to sum up your feelings?
| |
wow, haven't heard you say that before. go play with your glow sticks.
| |
Can't, it's the middle of the day
| |
Haha alright man. I'd call it bass heavy hip-hop, but what do I know? I'm pretty deaf.
