Moshing Banned in Boston?
2012-03-13 by Nu Metal | 147 Comments
Add moshing to the list of things you can't do in Boston.

The Boston Herald reports that police cited the House of Blues for a license violation because of a mosh pit that broke out during a Feb. 21 show by Flogging Molly. Police say 60 concertgoers engaged in the violent dance.

Brian Fair, vocalist for Boston band Shadows Fall, called the clampdown "ridiculous." Other musicians say slam dancing is part of the metal and hardcore culture, but police say people
can get hurt, claiming it's a safety hazard.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones Concert I went to Dicky Barrett stopped the concert because he saw
something like that happen. He had everyone step away from the dude and then had them all look down.
They brought him the glasses and then took the kid up to get them. Then started back into the song
like they had never stopped and let the kid stagedive back into the crowed. single greatest moment
by a band at a concert I've ever personally witnessed.

Mosh pits are just annoying & I don't like them...

BUT to see people who enjoy taking part in them not have the ability to do so just because of what a SMALL amount of people did on one occasion is just wrong.

Sure they are dangerous when they get out of control but one incident shouldn't lead to a ban. Overreaction by the Boston authorities here.

Good thing Converge plays at New York. In my totally uneducated opinion, I agree that those who would complain should just stay away from the pits. I understand that sometimes you can wind up inside of one or near one, but people need to understand that some shows will pose a risk.

Might as well ban crowd surfing, since far more serious damage can occur from getting dropped onto a hard floor on your head than the flying fist of an 80 pound kid whose gauges and T-shirt ink make up 60% of the number that shows up when they step on a weighing scale.

Anyways, I find it hilarious that of all times to ban moshing, they choose now when hardcore has been
a huge part of the boston music scene for 30+ years.

Also, seeing how I'm from Boston, I find it incredibly ironic they're only banning it in venues where
security guards are present.

Moshing will still be fine at venues like Anchors Up where people actually get hurt.

If moshing is banned forever, the hardcore scene is more dead than it already is. The genre itself is completely focused around crowd participation and the crowd sets the stage for the intensity of a live show.

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. So as long as someone's into different music I think its cool, and if they do hardcore dancing I give them respect cause they do what they like to do. But hardcore dancing is feminine and really stupid looking. I much rather prefer a real pit at a punk show. Worse than hardcore is hate-moshing.

What in the hell is hate moshing? Ridiculing others followed by long suicidal stares?

Anyone here that thinks moshing is stupid or juvenile should listen to "micha" by integrity and come back and tell me that
