The recent departure of Of Mice & Men's bassist/clean vocalist Shayley Bourget (his statement regarding the
situation can be found here [a]http://www.youtube.com/watch?
feature=player_embedded&v=RnBW9Qhfma0[/a]), the band has recently announced that frontman Austin
Carlile will now also be doing clean vocals for the band.
The statement can be found on their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/ofmice?sk=wall
The band will also be hitting the studio soon to record new songs featuring Austin's clean vocals.

Both of these duties, plus being a dickwad? That's a lot of weight

here's a novel idea: how about no cleans?

Maybe he should do triple duty and write some riffs

my guess is there is not going to be that many cleans on the album.
|
| |
He sounded good on Ben Threw
|
| |
I find it funny that the same thing happened to Attack Attack! and Of Mice & Men with this whole clean vocals issue.

he has nothing on shayley and he's not gonna be able to do it live.
|
| |
thats why there should be no cleans.
|
| |
True say, but then again, it's better than nothing; I loves me some cleans.
|
| |
why do people like this band
you are all children

@bass, true but shayley left because of depression and not god lol.
|
| |
He did cleans in ben threw, and they weren't bad at all.
|
| |
I got this dude's name mixed up with the lead singer of Hinder... Now that really would have been some bad news.

hasn't the asshole from hinder always done everything davey?
|

Shame Shayley left.
He wasn't too bad on Ben Threw, though.

that waka sample and breakdown were pretty sick though.
|

@andcas, yeah I know, its just funny cause Austin used to be in Attack Attack! and now his new band has the same problem they did
Yeah but theres no way hes gonna be able to sing cleans and scream live hes gonna get really winded I'm not so sure this was a good move.

wow, because this is totally news worthy
|

I know that Austin could be a good clean singer if he tried but he'll never replace shay, no one can.

I don't like this band and now I like them less. I like how all these bands just decide their vocalists can start doing cleans. A little studio magic and they're all set. Dude's a douche anyway.
|
| |
dude is a raging dickhead. i hope his pipes blow.
|
| |
You guys are implying that he could at least scream properly in the first place.
|
| |
he's a pretty competent and impressive screamer dude.
|
| |
here's a novel idea: how about no cleans?
kind of awkward when they're the best thing about the band
|
| |
*were
|
| |
Well there goes one of the main reasons to listen to OMAM. I do enjoy his screams though, Austin is a monster, but he sucks more on cleans than a hooker sucks dick on a busy night in Vegas.
|
| |
He's a good screamer and he has a very different sounding voice but his range really isn't too good. He basically has that one screechy pitch and never really tries to stray too far from it.
|
| |
true but his stamina is off the charts and hard to mimmic.
|
| |
I'll give him that I suppose. The scream at the beginning of Westbound And Down is fairly impressive.
|
| |
Also his long drawn out scream at the end of This One's For You is pretty damn cool.
|
| |
All I can think of reading that is Deez Nuts haha. I'll have to listen to that song though I don't think I'v heard it.
|
| |
@InnocentShadow if he can't do cleans live then he shouldn't do them in the studio.
|
| |
Hes decent, but yeah life he will get way too exhausted
|
| |
But wack you're right, no true replacement for shay
|
| |
Just finished watching Shayley's statement, poor guy. Apparently he's releasing demos though. I'm probably going to end up buying them.
|
| |
Yeah I feel bad for him.
Heres to hoping he can tackle his depression problem, and back problems and get back with OMAM
|
| |
Saw them front row at Warped last year, the OG Loko breakdown with the hard in the paint sample was one of the most epic things ever.

you can't be a real person

Am I the only person alive that thinks Shay's vocals are really annoying live?
|
| |
this just makes me hope that shaley is going to release his own music, i have no reason to listen to this band now
|
| |
weird how many sputnik people seem to like this band. i for one think they are very mehhhh

lol

hope he doesnt use autotune
|
| |
He might ^
|
| |
Shayley is releasing his own music under a new band name, there is a sample of the demo at the end of the interview that's linked in this news article, a sample of two demon songs actually. They sound really good.
|
| |
Shayley is a damn good vocalist
|
| |
Yep ^
|
| |
Can't recall what his cleans actually sound like, but I do hope they don't infest every single song on the new album.

"hope he doesnt use autotune"
"He might ^"
he absolutely will.
|
| |
Aw fuck he added so much to this band... Their next album will probably suck
Digging: Ghostface Killah - Twelve Reasons to Die
|
| |
^ This will probably suck because Austin is a douche bag and probably lived off of Shay's vocals/lyrics. He could work on his singing and work everything out but I doubt he will. The Flood was a needle in haystack.
|
| |
This is how I think it will play out, they'll start recording tracks, Austin will realize that he can't keep up with it, then they will just add a ton of random effects and instruments, call it "experimental" and release it as an EP to make up for the shitty cleans, then they will take a "creative break" to go find a new vocalist.
Just my prediction anyway.
|
| |
"hope he doesnt use autotune"
"He might ^"
"he absolutely will."
god damnit
|
| |
Well are his Ben Threw vox auto tuned?
I can't tell
|
| |
^no, just layered to shit
|
| |
Well I re-listened to Ben Threw just to see what his vocals were like, if the whole album has vocals like that I probably won't listen, I'm gonna go check Shayley's solo project instead, their demos are already better than anything Of Mice & Men has ever made.
|
| |
This is really just going to be one of those situations where I'll "wait to hear" what happens.
|
| |
I didn't think the of mice and men album was that great but I can't deny his screams are freaking amazing. Dickwad or not, amazing screamer.
|
| |
Eh. He does have a pretty unique scream, whether you consider it good or not, and his singing in that one song was decent. Though i don't see how he'll be able to do it live since it seems like he runs out of stamina frequently.
