Whitney Houston Dies at 48

2012-02-12 by Athom EMERITUS | 143 Comments
Pop icon Whitney Houston has passed at the age of 48 years old. During the 80's and the 90's her voice and presence in the pop world seemed to be everywhere, but her publicity nightmare of marriage to Bobby Brown with their longstanding history of violence and drug abuse reigned the headlines in the last decade.

It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of
the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message
crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves.
Since it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with
ourselves. It's an important message -- crucial, really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.

RIP.

I found out about this at a school dance I just came back from; the DJ announced it, saying: "I'm sorry, but we have to play this song in honor of Whitney Houston, who passed away just moments ago." I thought that it was just a bad joke and nothing more than a way to introduce the song (which would have been fucking shallow and retarded). I wonder if her death had something to do with the low attendance at the dance?

48 is old for heavy drug users

Sad, but true...

Tell that to Iggy Pop, 4/5 of the Rolling Stones

Along with Lemmy and Guns N' Roses (among too numerous to mention...), these guys did blood catharsis ALL THE TIME, while they were/are taking their drug dosage through a doctor.....

Sometimes, the multi-national record companies arranged for them these procedures in full discretion, because they have a profit to make.

Later on some of these artists realized that they were not 20 years old anymore and either came clean the hard way or do "less harmful" drugs to get by...

No one was around for Whitney to do the same, I guess, because her time where she was soul queen was long gone...

Judging from the tragic death of Amy Winehouse, in the present times, major record companies consider their artists so expendable, that they let them to wither, because they have tons of gonna-be-fabricated pop stars waiting in the hallway...
