I should have seen Mastadon when they were touring with Alice in Chains and Deftones, so I could have seen them with good bands. Too bad the closest venue was Madison Square Garden and tickets were expensive.

The Hunter songs are outstanding live, I especially couldn't believe how well they were performing all of the vocal melodies. Always wanted to see Opeth and Ghost seems as though they would be fun too. Just hoping this one comes near me.

This is a great tour! Ghost is a pretty cool swedish sort of satanic hard rock band. Seen them a couple of times here in Stockholm. Was a bit dissapointed with Opeth last time though, just too many meh-songs.

Awesome tour, I wish it could pass over Hellas as well.

On another note, the tour should take The Devil's Blood as a third act in the bill, they are much much better than Ghost.

Except Brann Dailor is a god-tier metal drummer. And it doesn't really matter if Opeth has more technical skill because Mastodon for the most part writes better songs. Both are among my favorite bands though.

Only someone who knows nothing about drumming would think that Martin Axenrot is better than Brann Dailor. That is
undeniable. Also Opeth has mediocre singing and great death growls, while Mastodon has two great original voices.

Stoked for this. Saw the first show on the Heritage tour and was disappointed by the setlist. Maybe
touring with Mastodon will wake them up and bring back the more metallic Opeth of 1999-2005.

People seem to be judging Opeth on their diversity and whatnot, but people are apparently not aware that Opeth does not play their heavy stuff at all anymore. I think Mikael has lost his ability to growl.

"Opeth does not play their heavy stuff at all anymore. I think Mikael has lost his ability to growl."

I can't know for sure until Mikael says it himself, but I think they did a less-heavy non-growling set on the Heritage tour
for the same reason that they made Heritage a less-heavy non-growling album... because that's what they wanted to do.
They've done this kind of thing in the past and it didn't become a 'thing'.

I saw Ghost live last summer, and it's not something I'd recommend. Weird dudes standing in black priest-like robes, smoke all over the place, and fucking bad metal. Sounds pretty cool, though, I thought so too when I went; left about 30-45 minutes after the show'd started.

jrowa001

im sure they will go back to growling live soon. i went to the heritage tour and although they still sounded amazing, i just feel like it wont last if they keep doing the songs with only clean vocals.

They'll end up playing roughly the same set over and over again, which will make it pointless to even go see them.

So, yeah, I think they'll kind of have to go back to playing some of the heavier stuff.
