Meet The Enemy sucks. A Rose For Epona is a catchy song but this band's guitarrists are so fucking boring...

I like how aggressive Meet The Enemy is and how melodic and female vocal driven Rose for Epona is. I dont feel like i'll be disappointed with this record.

I love me some folk metal, too, but I must be missing something. Other than at the very beginning and
very end, A Rose For Epona doesn't even sound at all like folk metal. I found Meet The Enemy to be a
better song in every way, which seems to put me totally in the minority. It has more folk
instrumentation, more of an early Eluveitie sound in general to me. In fact, had they only released A
Rose For Epona I wouldn't be as excited for this album. The chorus of that song is bland. The verses
are great.

Well my genius self just re-read the comments and I'm not in the minority for liking it. I may be getting Sputnik comments confused with YouTube comments again.

You've been listening to too much Alcest. You've gone soft on us.

And damn, what happened to Anna, her vocals have improved quite a bit. Much more expressive now. I was
down ever since I saw her playing the hurdygurdy, she just gets more and more alluring in her talents.

that second song is far softer than anything alcest has done, it's like a shitty pop ballad with a couple of power chords and a flute or two buried in the sappiness

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for folk metal, this band especially. Still, nothing will ever touch Helge Stang-era Equilibrium

I dunno, Alcest pulled some really soft stuff on their latest. But I was joking anyway ;) But calling
it a pop ballad is pretty off the mark given what it's about and how much more unique Anna's voice is
than any pop musician. But to each their own. Edit: Just watched a video whose description states
"Eluveitie returns with an Avril Lavigne cover called "A Rose For Epona"" hahaha...

But then I went and listened to part of Slania and I'm suddenly not liking either of these songs. Meh

then why don't they write the song in a way that doesn't sickeningly make it sound like a pop ballad

it's almost offensive to the fact she's a good singer

This is one of the favourite bands of a friend of mine and they are playing nearby yet he can't go which displeases me. On the other hand I don't care for this band...

I can agree to that point

I can also agree that the guitarists in this band have always been mediocre. But the wind instruments
have always been the draw to me, as well as some of the lyrical content and theme. The lead singer is
a great flutist, as is their dedicated wind instrument player. I sill miss their bagpipe player
though.

I've never listened to Eluveitie for their guitars, but it's not even just that they're not interesting. They were never anything to write home about before, but from these two songs there's just nothing interesting or catchy at all. At least a lot of their previous work had some pretty cool, albeit simple, riffs.

I love Rose and Meet the enemy is pretty good too. Rose for Epona is just beautiful.

Woefully unimpressive stuff all around. These guys were fairly good early on but they slowly started adopting In Flames syndrome. Too busy slicking up their sound to concentrate on pushing boundaries. Everything we've heard so far is just retreading the same simplistic riffs and lyrical themes from the last two albums.
