oh come on, yours was posted last *butthutt*
Digging: The Dillinger Escape Plan - Dissociation
sad day for music
year of the thrice
better call that artist an ambulance
*Half of Sputnik kills themselves*
2011 keeps getting better! :D
yeah, bummer, but hopefully they'll come back soon enough
i swear a lot of bands have broken up this year!
fucking nooooo! D:
break up =/= hiatus
Hiatus doesn't mean that they're done.
Glad I saw them on the tour though. They deserve a break.
looks like the band was really under an....
ILLUSION OF SAFETY
My guess is that they'll be touring again about this time next year.
Glad I got to see them last month. I expect that they'll be making music again in a couple years.
"looks like the band was really under an....
ILLUSION OF SAFETY"
whichll turn them all into BEGGARS
the post by Dustin is pure class. I love that guy.
and yeah, hiatus =/= break-up, but part of me thinks that this is it =( oh well at least I got to see them live.
Hiatus = "we're done, but we don't wanna upset the fans too much right away. They'll slowly come to grips with it during the next 5 years."
that's a really shitty pun
Or they'll be like, "Hey guys, remember that time we made music together and went to places all around the world? Yeah, I kind of miss that."
its ok redsky you can cry
Have they announced their spring tour? If they don't play near me I'm probably gonna kill them, or something.
if another one of my favorite bands breaks up or fucking "goes on hiatus" this year i'm going to lose my fucking mind.
Or you could kill yourself
An understandable reason. Kinda sucks though, I REALLY want to see them live. Hopefully their spring tour feature some kind of tour of europe.
This is understandable, but I really hate it. They better come through Canada on this spring tour.
I don't really care about this
"looks like the band was really under an....
ILLUSION OF SAFETY"
oh i dreaded this day. thanks for the inspiration fellas. i would not be where i am today without your music. heres to hoping you have more music to offer the world in the future.
Well, fuck me
Digging: Matt Aspinwall/The Brave Little Abacus - Split
Oh i have longed for the day when a band that isn't that great declares a hiatus to gather attention for themselves that an album release couldn't possibly do. I will weep many a tear tonight and possibly pass out on my cock shaped pillow. I may not even have the energy to masturbate or write in my diary. Damn this pain!!
I knew this was coming. I'm so glad I saw them before this happened in case they do call it quits. Extraordinarily grateful for this band existing.
shit... never saw 'em live
at least they're gone with no bad albums and shitty breakup statements
Well, at least they released an awesome album before the hiatus. pity I didn't get to see them before though
stop talking about this as if they're done as a band forever.
They're not done until I see them live okay so shut up.
Based off of his post I'd assume they dont get back together permanently. They may make some more music together, but he seems to feel family > music at this point (which is good) and I don't imagine that would change. I hope they tour nearby
aw shit. hopefully the spring tour come around here.
This means that Poison the Well should come out of hiatus. Even tho that makes no sense.
I really never understood the appeal of Thrice
^ I will agree that I dont think this band is as good as everyone else on here, BUT, they are good nonetheless
THERE IS A GOD!
Digging: Vektor - Terminal Redux
Well this sucks- it's a fair reason, though..... hopefully they'll make more music together soon
well i'll be damned /:
Digging: Crowbar - Crowbar
how will I LIVE AT THE HOUSE OF BLUES without them
Digging: Thy Catafalque - Meta
I would have been far more upset if this happened in 2007 or so.
They had the best discography in the biz. RIP
Fine by me, their last couple albums were snoozefests.
welp. hopefully they'll be back asap
how will i BEST BUY CD SAMPLER without them?
This really sucks. I was just getting into them. Hopefully they return soon because I want to see them live.
dammit. I just got really into Alexisonfire when they announced they were splitting, and I've been listening to Thrices back catalogue pretty much non-stop over the past month and now this happens.
Going on that form, prepare for some bad news about Letlive....
They deserve a break to be fair, but damn Thrice why can't you be superhumanz and write nonstop 4eva
god dammit noooooooo
Ed and Riley should totally start an instrumental side project. Riley's demos that he posts on bandcamp are sick.
I'm just happy they're not (potentially) going out with a whimper. Major/Minor rules.
glad i got to see them this fall. didn't necessarily see this coming but it isn't a surprise, glad that they're seeing the bigger picture with their families.
saying Thrice is a christian band is like saying the beatles are a christian band because of "let it be"
It sucks but I'm confident they'll be back.
Cause Thrice only has one song about jesus just like the beatles.
Lets just ignore their other songs.
I like Thrice but I think it's good. Beggars and Major/Minor were a little too similar for my liking, they need a break to let their sound take a new direction when they come back.
p.s. saying thrice is a christian band is also like saying Red and Deas Vail are christian bands, just because they have some songs that have super vague lyrics that can be construed that way or have been on a christian label before. Except with Thrice the argument is even less convincing.
I'm sorry that Thrice couldn't completely redefine their genre for the seventh time, snatch.
Damn it. My favorite band.
I was going to post this myself, but I had class.
Sucks. Just as I was starting to dig them.
"I'm sorry that Thrice couldn't completely redefine their genre for the seventh time, snatch."
they spoiled me, what can i say
sputnik is a little colder today
Sweet Jesus this sucks. The only consolation is that maybe they'll be back in a couple of years. GODDAMNIT
I support their decision.
Interesting now that they left us with Anthology. Well I mean Disarmed was the closer but still.
"they spoiled me, what can i say"
My exact reaction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umDr0mPuyQc
Now I'm going to be fucking anxious waiting for their spring tour dates to drop.
^This (Yazz comment). So sad.
noooooooo : (
Don't really care though. I never got into these guys.
They were really talented. Hopefully it's not a perma-hiatus.
Digging: Barn Owl - From Our Mouths a Perpetual Light
I actually respect bands that go on hiatus. They just need a break.
It's not like they disbanded.
I'm almost positive this hiatus will lead to disbanding
Digging: John K. Samson - Winter Wheat
i really loved their early work but with the albums theyve been putting out since Artist i cant say ill lose much sleep over this
I guess between being a father and being the lead singer of a well-respected band was causing Dustin too much of an IDENTITY CRISIS.
Also, hiatus =/= disband. I mean hell, disband =/= disband anymore--look at how many bands have come back in the past year: Hot Water Music, Jane's Addiction, Blink-182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more. Not to say that this won't LEAD to a break-up, but it doesn't mean anything right now.
That being said, I've never seen them live, so I damn sure will try my hardest to do so in Spring.
guys lets be real. the only real concern is whether brand new will make another album.
I don't mind this at all.
To be honest Beggars wasn't my thing, and what I heard of Major/Minor didn't tickle my fancy either. They still released my favorite album (Illusion of Safety) and are my favorite band.
I'm really, really glad I caught them at the Electric Factory in Philly this fall in light of this news. They put on one hell of an amazing show. I also saw them open for Dashboard Confessional when I was in high school, just after The Artist In The Ambulance was released. What a tremendously talented band. I'm pulling for them to come back together when they're ready. If you think about it, most bands are, for all intents and purposes, "on hiatus" in between albums and tours anyway. Be well, fellows, and return to us stronger than ever. Long live Thrice.
Next up, Circle Takes the Square disband and everyone in Defeater simultaneously have heart attacks.
This is Major/Minor news for Sputnik...
Sounded better in my head.
Thrice has enough discography to keep me happy for years. Cheers Thrice! Cheers for my first post, as well!
did someone say Red wasn't a Christian band? lulz yes they are
and thrice quotes way too much CS Lewis and Scripture to not be a Christian band, or at least a band with a Christian lyricist/singer (he's also a worship leader at a local church).
moral of the story is, this is incredibly depressing, and I kind of thought Major/Minor felt like a "last album", but hey, they've been awesome.
Good, most recent album sucked
If your definition of a Christian band is a band that has members who are Christian, Thrice is a Christian band. If your definition of a Christian band is a band that has many songs relating to Christianity, Thrice is a Christian band. If your definition of a Christian band is a band that sings exclusively about Jesus, Thrice is not a Christian band.
^saw the word christian. instantly ignored.
"how will I LIVE AT THE HOUSE OF BLUES without them"
Sad to hear - great band.
Never understood the hype.
Band is RIDICULOUSLY overrated on this site.

>Digging: Black Veil Brides - We Stitch These Wounds
Band is overrated. Major/Minor was so dull.
Fuck this year. First Alexisonfire and Frank Carter Gallows, now Thrice. Ah well, as long as Brand New, mewithoutYou, La Dispute, Letlive, etc. don't quit I'm just fine.
Eons is not worth his Animals as Leaders avatar.
Digging: Jeff Rosenstock - Worry.
they better head this way on the tour, anyone know when dates are announced? (or if they've already been announced?)
"^saw the word christian. instantly ignored."
How insanely stupid you're making yourself seem
It makes sense that they would take a hiatus now. I haven't enjoyed their latest music as much as their older stuff, but it's still a little worrisome to know they may not be coming back. Hopefully they'll find a healthy balance in their life
Well this is some shit.
thursday just called it quits too
Digging: Watchtower - Concepts of Math: Book One
Fuck Thrice, so bummed about Thursday if that's true.
Hm, nothing on Thursday's twitter about them calling it quits...
Well, I live really close to Orange County now so I'm pretty sure they're going to come around here for Spring and I will definitely see them one more time.
Almost felt that coming in listening to Major/Minor... That sucks.
fuck never seen them and missed them this year when they came with La Dispute,
i done fucked up
God dammit how about they take a month or so off to spend with their families and then get back to work like the rest of us
sucks that they're quitting right now
still don't think they ever made their masterpiece.
Noooooooo... I've still never gotten to see them live!
They were my favorite band but tbh I didn't care for Beggars or what I heard of M/M
Thanks Thrice, maybe you'll start making decent music again in a while.
Oh be quiet.
Probably the best thing to happen to music in the past while.
This sucks ass. Major/Minor is excellent.
"still don't think they ever made their masterpiece."
i feel the same way. they tried too hard with Alchemy Index and ended up overreaching. if they brought back a little more of their old intensity they could've done it, i think.
Half of sputnik will have to tremendously overrate some dear hunter albums now
Digging: Fit for a King - Deathgrip
just started getting into these guys too. sucks.
