Ville Vänni Leaves Insomnium
2011-10-31 by Kyle Ward STAFF | 17 Comments
Ville Vänni, guitarist for the Finnish melodic death metal band Insomnium, has decided to leave the band for personal reasons. In an official statement released by the band, Vänni said:

"During the last year I have found myself in a limbo of constant lack of time and impossible schedules. Combining a general surgeon’s career with a busy metal band like Insomnium has already taken years of precise timing, and the candle has been burning from both ends for years now. At the same time, Insomnium has grown bigger demanding more and more time. As a result, I have gradually come to a painful realization that I can not meet the needs of this roller coaster ride any more.

This decision was hard to make and accept for all of us. Insomnium has been like a family and the band mates have been (and will still remain) my best and closest friends. For not being able to give my 100% would only be letting them down. The reason why this decision is made flesh right now is that I will not be able to attend the One For Sorrow European tour. My wife is due to give birth to our first son and it is my responsibility, duty and choice to be home at that time. I will play two first shows in Finland and then bid farewell."

Vänni will be replaced on guitar by Markus Vanhala of the fellow Finnish melodic death metal band Omnium Gatherum.

Insomnium have just released their fifth studio album One For Sorrow on October 12th via Century Media Records.

The band's full statement can be viewed on their official website:

Not really a huge loss. If I had a job like a surgeon plus had a kid on the way I wouldn't have time to be in a popular, signed metal band either.

Ville Friman was the one who wrote most of the stuff on One For Sorrow, not Ville Vanni.

Gotta think that manual dexterity carries over to the guitar and vice versa pretty well.

You're hiding it... until you give in and get INSOMNIUM tattooed across your chest.

Friman wrote like 90% of their material so it isn't that much of a hit from a songwriting perspective. I think Vanni wrote A New Beginning, the bonus track off Across the Dark which was pretty awesome but, a bonus track. I'm sure they'll have no problem continuing as if nothing happend.

Europe is so much cooler than America. Even their surgeon generals are members of badass metal bands.
