New Cold Album Streaming

2011-07-11 by Jom STAFF | 27 Comments
Jacksonville, Florida-based Cold are streaming their forthcoming record, Superfiction, ahead of its July 19th release date at AOL.

The album - the quintet's fifth - is over five years removed from 2005's A Different Kind of Pain.

Said frontman Scooter Ward: "The main idea was to go back to the lyrical fiction of the first and second records. This album is comprised of these grand stories, and it's the most fun we've ever had making a record."

These guys were one of my favorite bands in secondary school, but they totally fell apart for awhile. It's not their best record (nothing will top '13 Ways...') but it's a pretty nice return to form - maybe a 2.5-3 out of 5.

I'm so glad "butt-rock" is losing its original meaning and is just being applied to any post-grunge or alternative rock people dislike. That's not obnoxious at all.

In other news.... Eh... I'm not impressed with this. Not really nostalgia-ing me due to the amount of... I dunno, major-scale-ish balad-y-er songs, and just... Not really like the Cold I liked. "Wicked World" is cool, and I like "The Crossroads" well enough. Still listening through, though.... Ooh... "The Park" seems good...

Hey, glad you like the band enough to defend them. But to deny the SONG stupid girl from being a butt-rock song is just lying to yourself. Idiot.

I don't even know what butt-rock means. The only mental image I conjure up is Andrew WK playing scrambled eggs on a trampoline screaming PARTY PARTY PARTY.

Maybe it's just me but the sound quality of the drums is awful.

Is that the woman from "Scrubs"? She looks delicious in that photo. *Hoping that doesn't backfire and end up being someone you know/are related to. I've had that happen to me before, my buddie's cousin*

@ OneMoreRoland
Define butt-rock, then. I'm going to enjoy your definition. "Idiot", how old are you? I hate to sound like an old man, but I almost guarantee I'm older than you, and I'll have you know that back in my day, not only did we have dinosaurs and milkshakes that cost a penny, but butt-rock didn't apply to that song.

Can't tell if they used an actual drummer or just programmed them. Get rid of track 3 and this would be a solid Cold album.

Definitely going to buy this when it comes out. I have only listened to one Cold album, A Different Kind of Pain, and I thought it was phenomenal. Hoping this will be as emotional as that album but better and nothing like that sorry side project, The Killer and The Star
