Tool has announced that their so far untitled new album will be released on May 22 (or May 15th) in 2012. The news was announced on the band's official website in a bizarre newsletter, which discusses topics including the Rapture, intergalactic travelers, and Taco Bell, and which you can read here: http://www.toolband.com/news/letter/index.php?t=1&id=59

Probably the greatest album in history of music after Lateralus. Nothing will ever come close.
I apologize to progheads (PT, Opeth, PoS fans etc), but your bands are kinda limited by rock/metal boundaries while Tool is actually thinking outside the box to create something beautiful and honest, that's what prog is all about, looks like bands forget that nowadays.

Haha, wankery/no wankery. It's a bit ridiculous to call Tool bad musicians - they enjoy their rhythm, so a lot of times the g/b/d's are all focused on it. It reflects the songs, IMO, and the lyrics. It's hard for me to point to a Tool song (be it one of their sardonic ones or one of their serious affairs) where the music and the lyrics don't match up thematically well. They are not the best rock band in the world, but, with their personal lives/attitudes aside, they make some of the best atmospheric rock songs ;)

Tool comment threads are awesome for trolling incredibly unsubtly, as people still don't realise that you're being ironic because, y'know, it's a Tool comment thread. And for the record, I actually agree with Daedus.

What the hell does pseudo-pretentious mean? Are they falsely making false claims of importance? Do the pseudo double negatives mean they actually are important? Or just that you like to throw pseudo intellectual language around to make it pseudo look like your opinion should be taken pseudo seriously?

Tool was a very important band in my musical development, but I really can't say I'm excited for this. Maybe I'd be a LITTLE excited if it was to be released this year. But a year away? idc

1. MarvellousG, I would like to shake your hand, buy your wife a box of chocolates, ruffle your kid's hair, and sincerely inform you that you are my internet-Hero. I love it when a normal person publicly destroys someone who probably spends way too much time on the internet.

2. Love it that whenever someone displays a healthy enthusiasm or a passion for an artist, they are labelled a 'fan boy', which I must assume is a deadly insult on this site, and one to be avoided at all costs.

3. Also cautiously optimistic for this album. Tool have not disappointed me yet, and they have been making music since before I even attended my first educational institute. My favourite albums are definitely ├ćnima and Lateralus however, and are likely to remain so. I just feel they are some of the greatest albums ever made by any band, really. Fine if you disagree, but I can't help but feel you're missing out, in the same way as if you can't find the joy in Lord of the Rings, Dune, or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

edit: This will surely be the single greatest and finest album of sonic enjoyment of our generation, released in May 2012.

While I'm late to the party it seems that to loose faith in an entire genre is a kind of close-minded, willed ignorance on the listeners part.

New album might impress, maybe.

I can see if you're just not into the style of music that Tool puts out.. but, they are one of the most tallented/creative rock bands to have graced our eardrums over the past 15 years. Outside of the complexity of the music, I find most of MJK's lyrics extremely moving in some of the songs.. And, 10,000 Days has some very good tracks, as well. Rosetta Stoned is probably one of the best drum composures that Danny Carey has ever put out.

16 year old me would be stoked. 22 year old me would be sceptical after the inconsistent mess of 10,000 days. 28 year old me cracks a beer, heads to the skatepark and forgets all about this news.

I know.. I don't understand the hate for 10,000 Days. Sure, it's got some filler in it, but all of Tool's albums do. Most of the tracks are very long/complex. I love to put this album on when I'm on a road trip. It sucks me in and makes the time fly.
