It's alright.

It's okay.

really good actually

Not bad at all.
| |
Groovy little bassline.
| |
Is it just me or does he kinda look mexican in that picture?
Song is pretty good if you're in the fitting mood.
| |
I prefer the first song that he released (I Am Disappeared), but this is still pretty great. Album should be interesting.
| |
On first lesson I found this to be a little bit too universal. The story he tells seems to just be a vehicle for a few slightly inspirational but still sort of hackneyed ideas. We'll see. Obviously not as good as 'I Am Disappeared' because few things are.
| |
I kinda agree agree adam but I'd say the main criticism of Frank Turner has always been he is this folk-punk/ post-hardcore singer yet his family is incredibly wealthy and upper-class. And I feel this song really speaks to that aspect of his life. Still it's no "I am disappeared"
| |
I don't think his family are incredibly wealthy or upper class. He went to Eton but he's said in interviews that he got scholarships to go and didn't fit in with that world at all.

fucking brits and crazy fucking ways.

"Although when I write, I go into a room inside my head. It used to be a small bar with 50 people, now it's a club with 1,000 people."
Much as I still love his new material by-and-large I think that's the problem with this song as I see it. It sounds like it was written to be an anthem rather than being written and becoming an anthem. 'I Am Disappeared' is so much more visceral, communicative.
| |
No one should ever suggest getting wild to their grandmother
| |
I do agree with that Adam. I knew Prufrock before he got famous is so much better than I still Believe because it doesn't try to be an anthem it just happens.
| |
I Still Believe sucked ass. This is a bit better, though.
| |
we shouldn't talk about that ep
| |
Well I mean Prufrock still knows it's trying to be an anthem but this almost expects to be one.
| |
It sounds more calculated/polished than Prufrock, but it works. You could just see it as confidence in his own abilities to write an anthem.
| |
Lol Dave you better not be implying that everyone in this country is middle class mate.
| |
Seriously don't get the point of your post though.
Neither everyone in England, nor every folk singer in England, nor (especially) every post-hardcore vocalist is middle-class.
| |
it's pretty good

How the fuck is living in a mansion and going to Eton middle-class? That's fucking first class through and through. Middle Class is the majority.
I loved I Am Disappeared, but I kind of don't want to listen to this. I can tell just from the title it's not going to be what I want it to be.
| |
uuhhggsafasdhg still sounds good to me.
| |
very much enjoying both of the new songs. newer frank turner fan here and got hooked from i still believe. dunno why everyone hates on i still believe or this song but i guess i need to go through his catalogue
| |
@jdennis31 Once you hear Love Ire & Song, you'll know why people are criticizing this song. I'm seeing Frank in new york tonight, I like this song. Frank's playing solo tonight, so hopefully it sounds better acoustic.
| |
"How the fuck is living in a mansion and going to Eton middle-class? That's fucking first class through and through. Middle Class is the majority."
Being middle-class has nothing to do with being in the majority, you oaf. It's based on financial, social and ideological factors. The upper-middle-class range from wealthy to very rich. The upper-class themselves are people with connections to old money and the aristocracy.
| |
psshhhh... Brits and their rigid class systems.
| |
Actually the celebrity era has mixed it all up, for better or worse. Money and fame supercede class now.
| |
Nobody's Upper Class in Britain except people you're never going to meet. Ever.
| |
We're not all from the mean streets like you, Knott
| |
Hey man I heard there's an Upper Class thing happening tomorrow actually you know anything about it?
| |
Yeah I put it together
| |
Will's punching above his weight.
| |
Time has not been kind to the guy
| |
True, doesn't matter now he's locked her down though. I might drive through some street parties for shits and gigs.
| |
urgh street parties. When did people become royalists again. I blame The King's Speech.
| |
Colin Firth is to blame for the re-emergence of royalism and the lack of accolades for True Grit. Dick.
| |
I take class to be purely a financial thing. So I always took upper class to be the extremely rich, the middle class (mostly) white collar jobs but with the broadest range, from lower to upper middle class. Lower class is working class, aka people like tradies. That's how I've always seen it.
But then I'm Australian, where old money doesn't come into it so much.
| |
Saw frank last night and this song was much better acoustic and live. when he told the story of why he wrote it, it made me appreciate it a lot more. by the way i am disappeared live is unfuckingbelievable.
| |
he play any other new songs?
| |
Yeah he played one song which was little odd. it was a story set in old england that was acapello. he also played a song about god not existing. it was really catchy, and it offended a couple people so i guess that's punk. I didn't catch the names of the songs though. My guess for the new album based on the songs i've heard,is that it will be worse than love ire and song, and maybe on par (or sub) for poetry of the deed.
| |
glory hallelujah is a really awesome song (the atheist anthem hes been playing)
| |
atheist anthem
| |
yeh sort of
i mean the refrain is "there is no god" so

Down with this sort of thing

the christians are gonna love this
| |
gonna learn this on guitar and go and stand outside kimm's bedroom window and play it all night
| |
That's why it's so punk rock. The system will fall any day now.
| |
adam i love you
| |
That song sucks my balls
| |
youre always so gosh darn negative
| |
Nah, love Turner. Just not a fan of cheap, preteen controversy.
| |
it's clearly not written to be controversial at all though, it's celebratory. he said, when he played it live, it's not meant as a slight on religious people or an argument against god, it's just what he believes combined with the positive consequences of that.
| |
Quite a liberal use of the word 'clearly' there. Whether it's what he believes or not is entirely immaterial. The pro-life loonies and the Westboro church only spout what they believe, and that's controversial. I assume he doesn't believe in fairies and aliens, will he be writing a song about them anytime soon? He could have done something clever and witty, could have done something to provoke thought and discussion. Instead he panders to the atheist snobs and sticks a finger up at conservative Christians.

lol
| |
If you say so, man. If you say so.
| |
Maybe I just don't like atheist anthems
| |
After listening to it a couple more times, I've realized The Atheist Anthem is gonna split up a large majority of his fan base... I never realized till I saw him that he doesn't just have a punk rock or indie following, but also people who are mostly strangers to underground music. A couple people even left the show during the Atheist Anthem. Great and honest music isn't only limited to the open minded.
| |
P.s. the people who left the show, sang every word with emotion on every song he played until the Anthem.
| |
Well stop the presses. I've been singing along with his shit for years. Doesn't mean bowing down to everything he says and does.
| |
Its definitely cos he's on Epitaph, Brett has been rotting his mind...
| |
i hope his new album will be more consistent than poetry of the deed. gplaya was frank turner playing in Texas or something? haha. can't wait to see those lyrics
