Chimaira Lose Drummer

2011-04-14 by BassDemon333 | 54 Comments
Chimaira have announced via live chat that Drummer Andols Herrick has been dismissed from
the band, citing differences with the band members as the reason for his departure. The band
have announced their new lineup with DAATH Guitarist Emil Werstler replacing Jim Lamarca on
Bass, Austin D'Amond replacing Andols Herrick on Drums, and DAATH Vocalist Sean Zatorsky
replacing Chris Spiccuza on Keyboards/Backing Vocals. The band have yet to announce the
title for their upcoming 6th studio album, but have stated that it is currently being mixed
by Zeuss and will feature 12 new tracks. It is due for release this August.

The live chat is going on now at this location:

Next week, Chimaira will lose a guitar player. The week after that, their vocalist.

Whoa, that's one BIG line up change. Emil is a great guitar player but having him on bass might just be a waste of talent. Having the Daath vocalist do backups or whatever might be pretty sweet though.

I reckon they'll release the album then call it quits, and do a farewell tour. Just got a hunch

Always been a fan of this band but they are past their prime.

So, the vocalist is also the backing vocalist now?
Wtf?

And what?

"DAATH Vocalist Sean Zatorsky
replacing Chris Spiccuza on Keyboards/Backing Vocals."

Like, wouldn't that just be vocals then, instead of backing vocals, since the lead vocalist is also doing the backing vocals?

WAAAAIT, DAATH is a totally different band huh?

Andols is pretty awesome so he's a big loss, but I did love DAATH's first release...this might turn out half decent

I like the Impossibility of Reason, but that's about it from these guys. Some of the members from Chimaira used to be in a local band called Skipline that had some really good hardcore songs. I have a demo cassette of theirs. Pretty much impossible to hear any of these songs now.

If they can ever put together another smashing album like the s/t, I would be a fan again.

BassDemon333

Exactly. I was hoping they would drop the Keyboards completely damn it. They still have their guitarists, so I'm hoping
for something like their self-titled with memorable riffs. The new album could be very disappointing though.

It's funny because Andols was never even on the s/t and that album is by far their best.

BassDemon333

Kevin Talleys drum performance on the self-titled was fucking awesome. He was much more aggressive than Andols.

bloc
April 15th 2011

He definitely was, but he was pretty much doing the standard metal drumming. It was definitely affective on the s/t as it really emphasized the grooves and everything but Andols is a lot more varied in his playing which I also like, especially with the fills and note choices.

BassDemon333

Yeah, it went extremely well with the sound of the self-titled, I don't know if I would like it as much if Andols did the drumming on it. I loved the fills Andols had though, he is a good drummer there is no doubt there. Sucks that the band asked him to leave. Apparently they asked him to rejoin after they kicked him out this time but he declined.

Yeah, I just read his statement. I don't get why they'd kick him out and then ask him to come back in, that hardly ever works out.

Have a bit of a soft spot for this band as they were one of the first metal bands I really got into (I was like :o this is like Slipknot but better!). Sucks that Andols left, but.. do people really have to be like "omg they're done for!" every time something like this happens? Like bands are never good after significant line-up changes... Fuck, with new members experienced in taking a different approach to the same style, I'd assume this album'll rip off heads better than half their releases. Something'll probably go down iffy (am thinking of the electronics), but they always have some good ideas here and there...
