Liking this. Fleet Foxes are a good band but I wouldn't listen to them regularly.

Fantastic song. Very excited.

Their debut record was spectacular.

Started listening to the song... thought it wasn't too bad, made it to about the half-way mark and noticed that the song was over 5 minutes long and was like "Jesus, it's that long? Yeah, fuck this."

It's basically like 70-to-80% of their self-titled; bland vocals with a bland melody that doesn't exactly capture my interest.

I've also just noticed the severe editing that my news blurb received. LOL. Thanks! XD

Lol, that's so weird, I just started listening to this when I saw Subpop uploaded it on youtube.
Then I clicked on this.

Community seems to follow everything the staff do. :/

yeah, we're all just a bunch of mindless drones.

no but srsly, i just couldn't get into their first album, aside from maybe White Winter Hymnal.

i definitely disagreed with the lower staff ratings. the self-titled is awesome, but definitely gets old.

I suppose. I dunno, it's just weird to see hate for this band. :-/

Actually; Bon Iver seems to have 100% praise from what I've seen. (well almost.)

It got old for me after about 2 listens.

By the way, i felt that MAYBE i was a bit unfair to it and decided to give the 2nd half of the song a listen. yeah, still don't care for it. Idk, there's something about this guy's voice that kinda bugs me.

It's characterless, but where it succeeds is being rather haunting, rather poetic in terms of singing. Though the voice is totally characterless (as I already mentioned), it's this sense of nothing that allows the textures, sounds and images of the lyrics to glimmer through.

Besides; technically speaking; he is a great singer. Well able to hold a note.

I loved their debut, and the Sun Giant EP was boss...but I just wasn't feeling this song.

=(?

Idk. I don't listen to A LOT of folk (or music in this vein) but when i do, one aspect that's kinda important to me is that the vocalist must at least SOUND like he has emotion. Granted, lyrics are important, and FF do deliver in that aspect, but Robin whatever-his-name-is almost put me to sleep on some of the more forgettable tracks on their self-titled.

I listen to plenty of folk too but if you trail back extremely far ie Dock Boggs, a lot of those vocalists followed his styling of vocals, his exact formula.

I guess what I am saying G3N3R1C is that we can be; in a way thankful that at least he is casting his own vocals style. I mean, it's less controversial than other folk vocalists today such as Kristian Matson and Sam Amidon.

There is a certain delicacy to Robin's voice, it's difficult to appreciate under certain circumstances. Perhaps you are yet to find the magic; possible in a different setting. Maybe try when you are unwinding.

But I can totally understand you disliking them, especially the production of the record; which seems to tuck the vocals in the back, behind the music.

This is a lot better than the debut, and Sun Giant. I love the medieval feel that they have.

Can't say I ever understood the appeal of these guys. Still, this is coming from the guy who likes deep-fried mars bars so make of that what you will.
