Captain Beefheart dies
2010-12-17 by Dr Dave De Sylvia STAFF | 67 Comments
Rock legend Don Van Vliet, better known as Captain Beefheart, has died aged 70 in California.

Van Vliet had suffered from the degenerative condition mutliple sclerosis for a number of years. Complications relating to the illness caused his death, according to an announcement made by the Michael Werner Gallery, which represented Van Vliet's visual art.

Van Vliet came to prominence during the 1960s as leader of the groundbreaking experimental rock group, the Magic Band.

@superstar. He is without a doubt one of the best artists of the 20th century. But more than that he is one of the primary inspirations to nearly every good artist who followed. Plus more than almost anyone else he was soley about getting his message across and did not care who liked it or even what medium it was in.
