Am listening. It's different, absolutely, but better than I thought it'd be.
|

It's very reminiscent of Recipe For Hate and TESF in a lot of areas. Definitely a lot better in quality overall than NMOH

Loving how they let Brian Baker off his chain. The solos are fucking great.

I'm sorry but this album is nothing like for example TESF,this is more chorus and less intellectualy oriented...must hear more times...
|

It's a lot like TESF but with more pop hooks and some of the experimentation of an album like Recipe For Hate. Lots of mid-tempo songs with a few fast-burners to balance it out, which is just fine by me. Another album like NMOH would have annoyed me, I'd rather a band step out of their comfort zones successfully instead of treading the same water album to album.

First impression is that its a really blending of the Empire Strikes First (in its rock/pop sensibilities) and The Process of Belief. I say TPOB over New Maps because New Maps was almost pure aggression with what melody there was geared toward that aggression (chugging guitars and little soloing). TPOB was aggro, but also carried some more melody with it (see Sorrow). Drum wise, very similar to TESF (for example compare Sinister Rouge and The Day the Earth Stalled- Brookes smacks the shit out of his bass pedals in the same extended staccato. Comparing Only Rain). Haven't listened hardcore for a lyrical theme yet, but seems to be in the same religious vein as previous albums (Only Rain stuck in my mind early). Overall? My prayers were answered. This album is the opposite of suck. I love TESF and I love TDOM

Damn, this might be Greg Graffin's finest singing yet.

Absolutely! I never knew he could throw his voice so high.
I don't know where I'd rank this album in their lexicon of albums, but yeah...it's pretty damn good, to be sure.
